Curta Cinema has started almost thirty years ago aiming to bring to the audience a Brazilian production that was reaching national and international acknowledgement but had no more screen space for its exhibition. At that time, all cultural and audiovisual sector had been dismantled by the country’s government.
For the first time the festival will be totally online, with free access in all Brazilian territory.
Today we find ourselves in a even worse scenario, with all culture working class being suffering political persecution, criminalization and systemic violence.
In times of pandemics, which we all must take care of each other following protocols and protection rules, we decided to present a lean program, preserving Curta Cinema’s essentials, which are two competitive sessions and debates with the directors.
Together with a health crisis and its devastating effects all over the world, much resilience is needed to live in such a period, similar to the worst dystopian nightmares Cinema has ever represented.
This edition is only possible because we have admirers and partners conquered throughout our journey, reaffirmed now by the results of our crowdfunding “Friends of Curta Cinema”.
We hope this brutal moment to be just a rite of passage to a new age.
This little introductory text is an appreciation for everyone who supported us in our resistance, not only with financial donations but with engagement, sharing and work force. At last, we thank the support of consulates and foreign institutions which believed in our work and value culture as an instrument for society’s identification and transformation.
