Smeg’s genuine design choice We share love with family and friends, live for food and entertaining and do it with style. For nearly 70 years, Smeg has been adorning homes with the most elegant appliances, each designed and engineered to bring joy like a work of art. And because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Smeg offers genuine design choice for individuals to choose an aesthetic style that reflects their own, personal taste. Smeg’s three architecturally designed collections, Classic, Linear and Victoria, will soon be joined by Dolce Stil Novo. With four distinctive aesthetic styles, Smeg has the widest choice to match every conceivable décor. Add to this the Classic and Victoria freestanding offerings, beautiful 50s style Small Appliances and FAB refrigeration, and it’s easy to punctuate and personalise your home with designer pieces from Smeg.

Classic Collection

Linear Collection

In 1985, world-renowned architect Guido Canali developed the Classic Collection, a design that pre-dated the stainless steel built-in appliance trend. Emulated across the decades, the Classic Collection has endured for over thirty years punctuated by its inimitable signature – the distinctive and beautiful “Canali” knob.

In 2005 Smeg developed the full glass door Linear Collection designed by architect Mirco Zanini. Linear’s design is based in fundamental elements and principles of design – line, shape, space, colour, balance and symmetry with ergonomic form. Available in lustrous silver, black and white, Linear by Smeg’s complexity is expressed in minimal simplicity.

Victoria Collection

50s Style Collection

Smeg’s recent Victoria Collection has irresistible nostalgic familiarity and surprising contemporary appeal. Victoria’s sumptuous curves, eye-catching style and radiant enamelled finish in black and panna (cream) is today shaping trends in kitchen design. Its versatility makes it equally at home in a country, Shaker or Hamptons style home as it is in a New York-style warehouse apartment.

Smeg’s 1950s-style FAB refrigerator has inspired luxe collaborations with doyens of fashion. At EuroCucina 2016 in Milan, Smeg released 100 hand-painted Dolce & Gabbana FAB fridges. As the only brand to offer a total kitchen solution – from fit-out to small appliances, Smeg is excited to announce a new collaboration between Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg. ‘Sicily is my Love’ was unveiled at Salone del Mobile di Milano, 2017, bringing Dolce & Gabbana’s unmistakable modern classicism to the benchtop, and high-end fashion into the home. #DGSMEG

The home offers spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean to the north and east with the main open-plan living area and pool are located at entry level. Four bedrooms each with their own ensuite are situated on the lower floor, whilst on the top floor the master suite, housed in a bladed exterior cantilevers out over the lap pool below.

The Whale House Created by Paul Uhlman Architects, the unique design of this extraordinary twostorey beachfront residence in Kingscliff, NSW enables the surf-loving owners to have a close connection to the ocean and their natural surroundings. Although the home is large, the timber exterior of the home has been painted in both grey and white, which lightens the profile of the home and gives it a coastal feel. The contrasting feature timber adds warmth, and curved lines on the front exterior soften the angular lines of the roofline and timber slatting on the side of the home which rises up out of the dunes and has led to the home being referred to as ‘The Whale House’. Leading from the master-suite, a curved and elongated ‘sunrise-deck’ offers a peaceful space for yoga and reflection and enables the owners to connect with the surf each morning with ocean views through the tree canopy.

Maintaining the coastal ambience, the interior of the home is a palette of natural timber and white, creating a fresh and airy feel and allowing the stunning natural surroundings to be the focus of the home. Creating both a physical and symbolic connection between the interior and exterior spaces, a timber boardwalk runs like a spine through the home leading from the decking at the front entry to the deck at the rear of the home.

Cliff Top House When it comes to projects with wow factor this one is certainly near the ‘top’ of the list. The Clifftop house is a recently completed project designed by Joe Adsett Architects and built by Brisbane’s multi-award winning MCD Construction. Situated atop a 10m cliff face on Teneriffe Hill, the original, traditional style cottage has been retained and a three storey ultra-modern, elevated extension has been added to the home, creating a spectacular, sculpture like home high above the street.

Keeping the charm of the double brick, single gabled cottage, the extension is predominately off form concrete and rendered block trimmed with rosewood timber windows and doors. It features 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 offices, gym, cinema, external kitchen, multiple external entertaining spaces, lap pool and a rooftop golf green that offers spectacular views over the city. Designed to take advantage of the 3.5 storey height and natural convection air flows, the passive solar considerations ensure the home is extremely cool in the

summer. The home also has automated blinds and louvres and the top floor has thermostat controlled extraction fans to maintain the temperate of the home with minimal use of air-conditioning. Throughout the interiors a selection of quality materials in neutral tones including spotted timber floors, rosewood joinery, Elba stone and walls finished in off form concrete and Marakesh plaster create a sophisticated, contemporary finish that that thanks to the extensive use of timber is also warm and inviting.

UNIQUE FABRIC & WALLPAPER DESIGN

Individually, David and Yuge Bromley are creative forces to be reckoned with. Together, as Bromley & Co, the pair are a creative maelstrom. Under the Bromley & Co banner the well-respected artist and his wife run two creative studios, galleries in both Australia and in China, a fashion label and a burgeoning event and interior design service which is transforming hospitality spaces, hotels and even luxury custom homes into 3D artworks.

B

orn in Sheffield, England, David Bromley immigrated to Australia with his family at the age of four. After first working as a potter, David emerged as a painter in the mid 80’s and has since become one of the most recognisable contemporary artists in Australia, whilst also receiving widespread acclaim and notoriety internationally. As he stated in an interview with The Weekly Review: “I want to be like Crowded House or the Beatles - everyone’s got one of those albums” and it seems he’s well on his way to achieving his goal. As an artist, David has developed distinct themes and unique styles of painting, his best known being nude female portraits and his children’s series. Whatever the subject matter, his work is enduringly figurative, daringly coloured and executed with a graphic intention that is striking and memorable. More recently, David’s work has extended into sculpture, creating in both bronze and resin to bring to life the characters portrayed in his paintings. His work, both in painting and sculpture, has become integral to the key interior projects undertaken by Bromley & Co in recent years. David’s wife, Yuge, who was born in Beijing and brought up in New Zealand, originally worked as a lawyer while pursuing her passion for the arts. In 2012, she launched her own fashion label, Yugeyu, creating timeless pieces that blur the lines between art and fashion and often incorporating textiles designed by David.

Says David: “Like a farmer takes his intuition to the land and combines this with the pragmatic during the seasons, working hard and being creative every day is to us a language we speak together. When working together on numerous projects, we are each other’s Radar O’Reilly (think M*A*S*H), intuitively bouncing off each other. When we first met, we didn’t realise that neither of us slept much and found work more invigorating than socialising. The term ‘workaholic’ has been thrown around, but we disagree. With family at our core, we just do stuff together all the time. There are 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week, we measure a good day and night by how immersed we are in our creative adventure.” The pair’s approach to interior design projects is fun, vibrant and flamboyant, creating immersive art installations to live in, rather than interiors with a few artworks displayed on the walls. As David explains, “Art is just as essential as cars, fridges and lawnmowers. It gives an inherent quality of life.” “With a motley crew of collaborators / family of friends we constantly seek to bring our passions, our drive and wide range of skills to everything we pursue, be it art, design, retail, interiors or construction. Combining an established and multi-faceted capability in design, with an everexpanding web of passionate artists and artisans to create products and environments that we love to be surrounded in.”

The Bromley collaborators certainly are extensive and include major property developers, luxury home builders and brands like Dulux, Mercator and Zagame. The immediately recognisable Bromley child sculpture in the front garden of The Residence by Mazzei Homes in Melbourne in collaboration with Dan Webster Architecture and Nathan Burkett Landscape Design is an indication that Bromley & Co have been at work within. “Releasing in February 2018, is our interior fit-out for Mazzei Homes in Balwyn North,” says Yuge. “As part of our work for this luxury display home, we have been intimately involved in every facet and will be bringing in several customised design pieces including a 2.8 metre wide bronze wall relief featuring David’s iconic butterflies and birds in the main living area. We’ve also designed custom furniture pieces as well as curated an art collection for the home that will not only make the space a luxurious visual feast but somewhere people can feel entirely relaxed, at ease nestled in their nest.” On a larger scale, Bromley & Co have been

intimately involved with the West Village development in Brisbane by Sekisui House. “Our work on this major development has extended across a variety of realms,” says Yuge, “from working with the developers, architects, landscape architects and lighting designers to evolving and finalising components of the precincts through to creating a 1300 square metre function space, The Bromley Room, and the build of a rooftop loft apartment, The Little Bromley Loft, which will be a drawcard for the development and something to introduce people to the residential component of the precinct before it officially launches stage one in November 2018.” David and Yuge have also been engaged for the interior design and styling of other components in the precinct. “We will be back on site in April to work on the design and styling of the lobby and key entrance points for the first two residential towers, laneway activations, community engagement and art installations throughout the various beautiful and innovative park and green space areas.”

Then there’s the Pub With Two Names, a hotel like no other in Ballarat, Victoria. Here, Bromley &Co have created a uniquely art-centred experience within the 100-seat restaurant/dining/drinking area, adorning the space with paintings and sculpture reminiscent of their own studio spaces. “We wanted to create an enveloping experience where locals and visitors alike can feel transported to a fanciful space within the heart of Ballarat,” say Yuge. “Upstairs we have created a series of five apartments, three of which are available for rent while two will remain as our own residence. We will truly be the artists in residence of the pub and be involved intimately in the curation and styling of all the spaces on a regular basis.

“The three apartments available for rent are a journey into the unexpected, imbued with an immense sense of exploration. The brief to ourselves when designing and decorating the apartments was Alice’s journey down the rabbit hole (adding a few mod cons along the way!).” The original stables built in 1887 will become the setting for supremely unforgettable events. “Set to open later in 2018, the Stables will be the epitome of entering into another world,” says Yuge. “While the Stables has been styled and set in our Mad Hatter’s way, we are still working on some extra special surprises for its launch.”

Bromley in China

Further afield, the irrepressible Bromleys have been busy in China, opening a gallery in Xiamen in 2016. Through the gallery space, the pair have launched a variety of other branches of their vision – participating in Xiamen international fashion week, hosting events for Bentley, collaborating with a number of Chinese artists and linking in with a major online retailer to launch a series of Bromley & Co stores in each key city in China. Watch out world, art – and the unstoppable Bromleys – are coming soon to a space near you, creating realms of experience that excite, inspire, immerse and provoke with their curiouser and curiouser aesthetic full of life, whimsy, vibrant colour and insouciant disregard for all ‘rules’, trends and conventions. Azure Taking a look at this stunning home by Sunshine Coast designer Chris Clout, you’d be excused for thinking it was somewhere in the Greek Islands or St Barts perhaps, it is in fact located on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Beach with spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean. Designed as a contemporary beach house, the home does in fact draw inspiration from the Greek Islands. The stark white façade and interiors create a brilliant contrast against the azure water beyond and is reminiscent of the clifftop homes you find in Santorini.

DAVID HAYES 84

BRISBANE CUSTOM HOMES

David Hayes is a Brisbane artist who works in acrylic and resin. His work is rooted in pop culture stylistically but explores the changing themes of masculinity via metaphors and juxtapositions of theme and work titles.

“I was raised with post WWII traditional stereotypes and now observe a different culture and the changing roles and identities of young men and women – none more so than my own children. They themselves represent the broader population. I am interested in asking questions and thinking about subjects that matter to me as a father and as a male – conflict, struggle, aggression, vulnerability, holding on, letting go – the human condition.” David Hayes 2016.

I was raised with post WWII traditional stereotypes and now observe a different culture and the changing roles and identities of young men and women – none more so than my own children. —D AV ID H AY ES

Some of his influences include traditional figures of the pop art movement including Warhol, Lichtenstein and Ramos, yet he continues to evolve the style with influences of current artists such as Kehinde Wiley, Richard Philips and Jeff Koons. His choice of medium is acrylic, spray enamel and resin. This is relevant to the genre in the representational element of a rapid and “artificial” man made quality to the image. The glossy veneer together with a bright candy palette provides the viewer with an initial sense of familiarity and fun. This often belies the deeper narrative of subject matter. David is represented by Mitchell Fine Art in Brisbane.

CAPE COD With commanding views over the river, this four storey home in Brisbane’s prestigious Hamilton Hill had the basis of a being a spectacular luxury home. Brisbane based design firm Highgate House have transformed the residence with classic elegance and a fresh, coastal ambience reflective of the style of homes in America’s Cape Cod.

iconic australian artist

Charles Blackman Turns 90 Esteemed Australian artist Charles Blackman OBE, who turns 90 in August this year, first came to prominence in the Melbourne art world of the mid-1940s with his dreamlike images tinged with mystery and foreboding. Best known for his Schoolgirl, Avonsleigh and Alice in Wonderland series of the 1950s, Blackman’s career culminated in a major retrospective of his work in 1993.

114

BRISBANE CUSTOM HOMES

Now in frail health, the artist’s affairs are managed by the Charles Blackman Trust, which manages the sale of works still owned by the artist himself to ensure his expenses are taken care of. The Bromley & Co galleries in Daylesford and Windsor, in Victoria, are among the few places entrusted with the sale of these artworks. Blackman has been a mentor to younger artist David Bromley throughout his career. In 2002, David was an Archibald Prize finalist with his portrait of Charles, an homage to a man whose iconic work epitomises a definitive time in Australian art history. In recent years, David’s admiration for Charles and his work has seen a further collaboration whereby, under the authority of the Charles Blackman Foundation, David has worked with a selection of Charles’ artwork, in particular his series of ink drawings on paper, to colour, collage and ‘reimagine’ the visuals through his own colourscape. The resulting works, the Blackman by Bromley collection, bring to light Charles’ drawings spanning from 2006 to the present with a playful flair and imagination, with part proceeds from the sale of these works playing a part in the support and care of the older artist as his health began to fail. David has always admired Charles’ no-nonsense nature and his ability to view the world and his surroundings as though peering down the rabbit hole, much like the Alice in Wonderland figures that feature prominently in his work. “I’ve spent a big part of my life endeavouring to turn dreams into reality,”says David, “and working with Charles is an honour so great that I would never have dared to dream it could be possible. I have had the good fortune to spend a lot of time with Blackman’s work and the opportunity to see in the flesh much of the last decade’s work.

“As I had done with my father, I mourned the loss of the vital expressive, surreal work of the Blackman I had revered for so many years. “Then, after years of seeing these works unfold I started to realise I was doing as I had done with my father, not being able to see the potency and poignancy of this stage and I was missing out on seeing this side of the man and his art. When I removed the veil from my eyes and from my thinking, I was able to see this new world unfold. “I now truly see this recent work and have entered once again into a “rabbit’s hole” type of experience that he has taken me into the past that was staring me in the face. Characters and stories ever present in his surreal mind, outpouring despite frailty. A determined hand connected to an imagination ever fertile, ever determined, making art, as usual, for his life. “As for his art, despite his condition, it can never be truly closed from memory, autobiography.”

116

Charles said to me once, a relationship with art is about the conversation and interaction you feel and have with a particular piece or body of art and then the conversation that the art has back with you.. BUTTERFLIES IN THE TUMMY / FIREWORKS IN THE EYES… A TWO WAY CONNECTION HAS BEEN FORGED …this is what I have with this decade of Blackman work—magic in a world of Charlie’s making.” — David Bromley

MAAS appeal Since coming to the world’s attention in the 80’s Christian Maas has been labelled as one of the great contemporary sculptors of the 21st century. Known for his eccentricities, Maas has developed somewhat of a cult following, working primarily in bronze and aluminium creating work that is humorous, erotic and often quite bizarre.

126

For me art is a game. A game of the first person (oneself) which allows you to break the rules in order to create your own rules and world, always with this pretention of matching your individuality with the universe.” — Christian Maas

Born on September 11, 1951 in Saint Étienne, Maas admits he was immersed in art from a very young age, growing up on a farm he created ‘stuff’ out of objects he found in the rubbish. Those creations led him to working in foundries throughout France before starting his own workshop. His body of work is now extensive, and incorporates over 100 public monuments, including a McLaren F1 racing car in Monaco – a tribute to the Grand Prix. He’s also created life-size sculptures of celebrities including Grace Knight and Kate Moss, however, it is the eroticised female forms and life size animalia that Maas is perhaps best known for.

Maas has won multiple awards and exhibited his symbolic and fantastic sculptures globally, including, New York, London, and the Middle East, as well as in his own galleries in St Tropez and Monte Carlo. Over the years he’s developed a slew of celebrity collectors and friends such as Princess Stephanie of Monaco and Bridget Bardot - a well known animal lover who Maas has donated animal sculptures co-signed by Bardot to auction in aid of raising funds for Bardot’s animal welfare endeavours. Although there are a large number of small table-top sculptures in Maas’ body of work, his passion is for the large - giant ferocious bulldogs, 6 foot tall hares, monumental skulls and life-size rhinos. Whether big or small, the appeal of Maas sculptures is certainly broad, with regular Christie’s auctions demonstrating an unwavering interest in his work, and a recent auction for 1 of 9 life-size rhino’s in aluminium fetching over $60,000 AUD.

I love the big format – it’s spectacular! I find it more interesting. I have gone so far as to produce a piece that is 12 metres high. ” — Christian Maas Opposite Page: Sarco. Top Right: Retour De Chasse. Right: Marilyn

When you’ve made a considerable investment in both time and money building your dream home, ensuring it is fully equipped with the latest mod cons and keeping that investment (and your family) safe and secure is on the top of the priority list for most new home owners. Thanks however to the IOT (internet of things), technological choices can not only seem confusing, but downright overwhelming. That is why engaging a company that specialises in home technology is an intelligent and stress-minimising option and the logical choice for the owners of this stunning riverfront home on the Sunshine Coast, who engaged award-winning Electronic Living to fully automate and secure their new home. Working in close collaboration with Shaun Lockyer Architects who designed the contemporary pavilion style home, Electronic Living brought their wealth of expertise in home automation to the project, managing all the technological requirements of the home from design and cabling, through to product selection, installation and custom programming. The outcome is a technologically superior home that not only meets the clients’ requests for a high quality system but is also simple and easy to use.

Due to the homes’ minimalist architectural style, aesthetics were of prime importance, requiring careful consideration during the planning stages. Equipment is concealed within a dedicated communications room which allows convenient access for future expandability and also provides a mechanically ventilated thermostat controlled environment helping prolong the life and reliability of the system.

Technological Features of the Home • Full home lighting and blind control from touchscreens, mobile devices, and smart light switches. • Customised scenes such as “Home” which when selected, turns on the lights on the pathway from the garage to the kitchen and bedroom. Other scenes such as “Goodnight” will progressively turn off all of the lights in the house and close all of the blinds. • Security and CCTV system that can be viewed, monitored and controlled through touch panels throughout the home and is also available on smart devices remotely (particularly useful for this client

as they are based internationally, giving them the ability to monitor and record their home at all times). • The client is notified on their smart devices if a security breach occurs, and the security monitoring company is also advised. • Distributed video (ring of multiple sources on any of the six TV’s in the house). • Distributed audio (music streaming services available in six rooms). • Audio and video intercom system, allowing the client to see who is at their front door and allow access to their visitors from their touchscreen and mobile devices.

Electronic living is Australia’s most awarded smart home company. As such they have expert knowledge of the technological options for today’s modern home. A visit to Electronic Living’s showroom is a great place to start, particularly when you are in the planning stages of a new home build or renovation, as they have a completely interactive smart home environment on display. LACHLAN ROSS You might expect an artist with work prominently displayed in public spaces, like Melbourne’s prestigious Toorak Road, to be somewhat affected by his success - after all Lachlan Ross has every reason to feel quite pleased with himself. Where many artists careers fail to take off, Ross has gone from strength to strength with regular large commissions for private and corporate clients and his work displayed in leading galleries across Australia. Despite this Ross has chosen a life out of the limelight remaining humble and grateful for a career that has allowed him to earn a ‘very comfortable living’ doing something he loves.

A

passionate traveller, Ross regularly travels to remote regions of the world where he connects with local indigenous people, learning ancient skills from craftsman that he embraces in his art. When at home, however, Ross lives a semireclusive lifestyle in the Byron Hinterland in northern NSW, an area he says he was drawn to through a powerful feeling of spiritual energy. The region is certainly known for its natural beauty and Ross credits the inspiration for all his work to the close connection he feels with the environment, and ‘all living things’. “We are all connected, humanity, the moon, the stars, the ocean, everything - that’s where I source my energy from and it’s what I try to express in all of my work.” You only need to take a look at some of the names of Ross’ work get a sense of his affinity with the universe; United, Eternity, Infinity, Entwine, Zen, and not to forget, Transcendence - a spectacular 12 meter high stainless steel sculpture commissioned by Westfield for their Bondi Shopping centre.

Evolve (bronze) Private Installation

“I received a commission for a large 3 meter wide sculpture for a private installation in bronze. It was a piece I had previously created in woven stainless steel. To be honest I hadn’t considered using bronze before but now I am really enjoying the process of experimenting with bronze and various patinas.”

Preferring to have someone else manage the ‘business end’ of his career, commissions and sales are managed via Sculptura who specialise in sculptural art for public, corporate and private clients. More information and a variety of his work can be found on their website: www. sculptura.com

His work has also varied considerably in size ranging from small sculptures of only 60cm in diameter to monumental size pieces, like Transcendence and others that are over 3 meters in diameter.

As to what Ross has planned for the future, his answer is as mystical as some of his sculptures, laughing, “I don’t plan – I take everyday as it comes and allow the universe to carry me on my journey. “

Floating House Having purchased an old fibro shack, with view to building her dream home, the owner of this unique home in Burleigh Heads, teamed up with architect Paul Uhlmann and builder Machtech Constructions to help bring her vision to life, and the vision was certainly spectacular. Dubbed the ‘Floating House’ the home has become somewhat of an iconic landmark in the area, due both to its space-ship like exterior and that, at a distance, it appears to be hovering above the ground. Built on stilts, the home is sitting above the ground, however the floating spaceship effect is enhanced due to the solid rectangular profile of the home which is broken up only by geometric shaped windows, being painted in contrasting tones; the upper half is white whilst the lower half has been painted in a charcoal, creating a shadow effect which blends in with the greenery below.

With a very narrow, 405sqm, severely sloping site with difficult street access, some builders may have shied away from a project like this. BRISBANE CUSTOM HOMES

With its exquisite detailing and opulent finishes you’d be excused for thinking these interiors belonged to a palatial home in one of Europe’s style capitals… certainly not in any case, a home in suburban Australia. It is however the spectacular outcome of a collaboration between boutique design agency Palazzo Disegno and luxury brand retailer Palazzo Collezioni who together created the elegance and sophistication of a European luxury home in the Sydney beach-side suburb of Sandringham.

The inspiration for this exceptional home arose from a vacation the owners had at Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. They loved the look and feel of the resort so much they wanted to emulate it in their own home that was at that time mid-construction. Interior designer and Director of Palazzo Collezioni & Palazzo Disegno, Michael Chard was engaged and he took over with the architectural styling and interior finishes of the home to see their incredible dream home come to life.

Positioned opposite the beach in the exclusive Dolls Point enclave, the home enjoys breath-taking views over the bay and is expansive with over 850sqm of floor space. With such grand proportions and the exceptional detail and bespoke finishes found throughout it’s no surprise that the project was 3 years in completion.

Due to the intricacy of some of the finishes, which included gold gilded ceilings, highly detailed marble flooring and custom designed parquetry, specialised craftsmen from Italy, which Michael worked closely with to ensure both his exceptional standards and his client’s vision were upheld at all times. An abundance of luxurious materials have been incorporated into the finishes including tiles handcrafted in Italy and rare blue marble. Bespoke Versace bathrooms have been finished with Medusa head detail and in the kitchen the signature Versace Greek key pattern has been incorporated into the edging of the custom designed stone benchtops.

“Why is it that so much art, not just painting but writing, music and dance is inspired by grief and heartbreak… I don’t know… but I anticipate I will be doing this series for a while.” — David Giles Wonder, 85 x 100cm

Whilst the sun setting over the ocean is hardly an original subject matter and draws on the romantic landscape tradition, The Solace Series artworks have been purposefully structured quite formally so that they can be read almost as Rothko-like colour field paintings. For David the series has also been a way for him to process the grief of a recent relationship break up, which sheds some light on the melancholy title of the series. “Why is it that so much art, not just painting but writing, music and dance is inspired by grief and heartbreak… I don’t know… but I anticipate I will be doing this series for a while.” says David. “I do tend to say that though about every new series, only time will tell.” Serenity, 65 x 85cm

Looking at works like ‘And then You Were Gone’ there is perhaps some evidence of emotional turmoil, however throughout the series there is a pervading sense of light, evoking a feeling of hope and optimism for the future. David’s work and the work of other talented local artists is on display and available for purchase at:

The home is constructed of rectangular forms, perpendicularly opposed with expansive cantilevered elements, that create a powerful , sculptural composition. An organically shaped pool positioned in front of the striking rear elevation, creates a sharp contrast against the angular lines of the building. Taking inspiration from renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando geometric forms have been used throughout the home to sculpt natural light.

NEW ZEALAND Situated on Waiheke Island, a 35 minute ferry ride from downtown Aukland this stunning new custom home offers a lot more than just breathtaking views. Recently awarded the Master Builders Association 2017 Home of the Year for the Aukland/Northland region, the home was described as “a work of art”, “with outstanding craftsmanship and exceptional finishing” by MBA judges. Judges also applauded the builder, Pitch Construction’s skill in overcoming a very difficult, narrow and steep site.

182

BRISBANE CUSTOM HOMES

A joint project between architects Paul Macintosh and Andre Hodgskin, the design of the home consists of two main volumes separated by a central courtyard with outdoor entertaining area and swimming pool. Of course, maximising the views of the outstanding location was integral for the owners, so bi-folding glass doors on either side of the main living pavilion provide a clear view from the guest quarters at the rear of the home, central courtyard, right through to the horizon.
