PANTONE’S 2017 COLOUR OF THE YEAR – GREENERY Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, was very philosophical about the choice saying ‘Greenery’ symbolises “the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment” and “the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” So here’s to a green year!

The Future of Surface

P R O J E C T F E A T U R E SAMMUT DEVELOPMENTS

NAUTILUS You’d expect the winner of the Housing Industry Association’s most prestigious annual award, to be outstanding in some way, after all the home is up against luxury homes by some of the country’s most awarded builders, this home however by Sydney’s Sammut Developments, winner of the HIACSR Australian Home of the Year 2016 is outstanding in every way.

Occupying four lots on the foreshore of Burraneer Bay with 3,950m of roofed area set over six levels, just the sheer scale of this home is quite extraordinary. Add to that the extensive list of exceptional amenities that include 7 bedrooms, 2 separate guest pavilions, 20 bathrooms, 6 kitchens, a commercial grade bar and bowling alley, a gymnasium, a cellar, an underground tunnel and music room all built on a sloping block to exacting and luxurious specifications and you start to get a very clear picture of how truly deserving this home is of it title.

Adding to the high impact interior is Brendan’s expert curation of statement furniture and dÊcor – many of which are custom made. A gem-like console in the entry foyer, hand-cut and faceted mirrors, or the geometric chandeliers that protrude from ornate ceiling roses. The house is punctuated by these visual highs, while their treatment and placement make them seem natural and effortless.

Undeniably this home ushers in modern eclecticism. Not the quirky, mixed style we once knew, but an altogether more sophisticated and contemporary interior attitude. Depth of detail reigns supreme; from contrasting textures like a clear lucite desk amongst plush, velvety chairs, or the similar, but not matched, patterns of soft furnishings in the bedroom. There are always new harmonies to be discovered.

P R O J E C T F E A T U R E GREMMO HOMES

ADAPTABLE LUXURY Gremmo Homes’ latest Display Home is a model in modern architecture that sits perfectly amongst the luxury homes of Sydney’s exclusive Bella Vista Waters. Designed to be luxurious yet with a relaxed feel suitable for family living, this beautifully finished home showcases an adaptable layout that can be easily adjusted to a variety of lots and sites, and internally customised to suit a diverse range of buyers.

From the street the home has a striking presence with an inspired mix of organic materials including feature free formed stone walling and hardwood timber cladding that contrast against the smooth white of the rendered walls and soften the geometrical angles.

A commissioned portrait is a very personal undertaking whether it is a portrait of yourself, a family member or perhaps a loved pet. Explicit trust is given to the artist to capture the true essence of the subject and it is a skill that is more than just a learned technique, it requires an innate talent, one which Perth artist Jana Vodesil – Baruffi possesses in droves. Whether from a sitting or a photograph, Jana has an ability to interpret facial expressions that go beyond the visible and reveal the character of the subject, encapsulating it on a canvas for future generations to treasure - not just as a family heirloom but as a magnificent work of art.

In 2013 as part of “Permanent Impressions,” a benefit for the Leukemia Foundation, Jana created a fifty portrait collection celebrating women of WA. The resulting book, was awarded a bronze medal in the Best Regional Non-Fiction category of the 2014 Independent Publisher Book Awards in New York. Another area of Jana’s work are her Visual Diaries which focus on beautiful images from her extensive travels around the globe. These works capture the essence of destinations such as the northern Italian countryside, streetscapes in the Bahamas and the majesty of the Alps and form another realm. Her lifelong interest in art has led to an award-winning career and numerous exhibitions. Vodesil-Baruffi was one of just 30 WA artists selected to exhibit at Matilda Bay Art Award, and she won first prize at the City of Melville Art Exhibition and the Bicentennial Exhibition in York. In 2014, she launched the contemporary Australian Surrealists movement with exhibitions at the Metamorphosis Art Gallery.

ANOTHER AREA OF JANA’S WORK ARE HER VISUAL DIARIES WHICH FOCUS ON BEAUTIFUL IMAGES FROM HER EXTENSIVE TRAVELS AROUND THE GLOBE.

Jana Vodesil-Baruffi continues to combine her art with involvement in the global issues with a new collection of Fantastic Realism paintings based on the oppression of women in the developing world.
