A Message from Your editor! Hello Key Clubbers! I hope the last two months of school has been doing you well! If you’re starting to feel tired and lose hope, just remember that all your efforts will go towards many important things in life so just keep fighting through! I have faith in you and I know you can do it! During the month of February, we may not have a lot of events this month but there were still many dedicated members doing their service out there! I was so pleased to see many of you at the events and was even more excited to capture you on camera. There will be more upcoming events so just wait out for them! All DCON attendees! There are only a few more weeks until DCON 2014 in Sacramento and I hope you’re all excited! This will be my last DCON do I hope to see many of your lovely places cheering along side our division. DCON 2013 was one of my favorite memories of last year so I can guarantee that this will be an unforgettable experience! Last but not least, good luck to all you seniors out there who will be hopefully receiving more acceptance letters than rejection letters by the end of this month! This will be my second to last newsletter so please look forward to my LAST one next month!

Rice and Bean Packaging

@ Salvation Army On February 22nd, Key Clubbers from all over Division 3 North rallied up to volunteer for the Salvation Army along with many of the adult Kiwanis members. During the event, each volunteer was given a task that they were to do for the next few hours. The various tasks included, filling up plastic bags with an appropriate amount of rice, filling up plastic bags with an appropriate amount of beans, or putting the bags of rice and beans into even bigger plastic bags. Although these tasks seem simply, it was difficult for some members to stand around for a few hours to same task. However, that didn’t discourage anyone. Each and every member diligently worked hard while socializing with other members. Not only were we able to help out for a greater cause, we were able to engage in laugh filled conversations and meet new friends along the way. After filled as many bags with rice and beans as we possibly can, we worked together to clean up the grains of rice and beans scattered throughout the floor. Our LTG, Jacqueline Tsang, then gave a brief DCM to give us an overview of the month of February and plans for the upcoming month of March. It was a joy to be helping a hand out at the salvation army.

Western Round Up

@ La Canada Community Center On March 1, several dedicated Key clubbers woke up earlier than usual on a Saturday morning and drove to the La Canada Community Center to take part in a fun-filled mini carnival called the Western Round Up. Each volunteer was giving a pre-made schedule that they were to follow. On the schedule listed various booths and jobs that they were to take over after every hour. The members would also having a 30 minutes lunch break to eat a delicious provided meal. Throughout the day, the volunteers did various jobs such as collecting tickets and working at booths, walking around to make sure everything was in order, or to clean up the eating station once in a while. Although the event lasted for a near 6 hours, the volunteers never lost the smiles upon their faces and continued to work diligently and spiritfully throughout the day. Despite the harsh down pouring rain mixed with the cold weather, the volunteers worked harder than ever. Hopefully, CVHS Key Club will have a honor of volunteering there again. 6

She’s very happy, and also very helpful! Jennielyn Bazan (we call her Jenny) has been a wonderful companion within our club. Jenny has a very bubbly personality — being around her while you work or even hang out is pretty fun! Her presence at our school meetings make them even brighter, with her awesome smile. She is also is quite experienced in community service, as she has been involved in proving aid to others since her freshman year. In fact, Jennielyn was one of the few who went to help out for the Rice and Beans Packaging event on Saturday morning. Talk about initiative! Furthermore, she has also been elected this month to become a project chair for the Crescenta Valley Key Club Board next year! We have been and are excited to have Jenny serve our club and community, for her spunk, sass, and style. Jenny is indeed exemplary of our core values of character building, leadership, caring, and inclusiveness. Go Jennielyn!!!

Officer of the Month

Cheerful, devoted, and outstanding are all the words that describe Marianne in our Key Club family. In every event, Marianne’s unfading, adorable laughter works to create a joyful atmosphere that spreads to her fellow officers and members like a happy virus. This month Marianne has once more shown herself to be not only an incredible officer with her flawless record in her editor submission, but has once more shown herself to be a dedicated member as well by attending those that lie ahead. Marianne, like all other senior officers in our Crescenta Valley High School, will have to big farewell in the upcoming graduation in June, and se has shown throughout her four years, working as one the most dedicated member, what it truly means to be part of the Kiwanis Family and to give service to the community.
