Rock ‘N Roll Marathon. . . 7

A Message from Your editor! Hello Key Clubbers! I hope you are all loving the change of season into fall as much as I am! I also hope you enjoyed indulging yourself into the loads of candy you gathered from Halloween! And now that November is here, this month is all about giving thanks so let’s so our appreciation by doing many service events together! This month was just amazing as the previous since we had events such as the Rock ‘n Roll marathon, the Duck Splash, and our monthly DCM which contained information about Fall Rally. Speaking about Fall Rally, I hope to see you all there on November so I can see all of your geared up and ready for a day full of spirit, cheering, rides, and amazing memories. For more information about Fall Rally please check out page 14 under the title “Dates to Remember.” If you signed up for Fall Rally and already paid I hope see you all there so I can take many many MANY wonderful pictures for all of you. As always, thank you for everyone that’s volunteered this month because we honestly wouldn’t even be a club if it weren’t for all of you dedicated members. Also, thank you to the freshmen that have stuck with us despite possibly scaring you away with our cheering. Nevertheless, I hope you freshmen feel welcomed into our family so let’s all make wonderful memories together, yes? See you all next month! Yours truly,

Marianne Lagasca Bulletin Editor 2013-14

Duck Splash

@ Verdugo Park On the morning of October 12, Key Clubbers united in order to prepare and volunteer for an annual event known as the Duck Splash. Schools from all over Division 3 North and Division 3 South came to lend their helping hands. We started the day off with getting into groups in order to set up the tents for the game booths and other stations. We then took giant pre-made posters to hang upon the back of the tent in order to indicate what sort of game that station will be holding. Next was the joyous part of being able to actually start working at the booths when people came rushing in for the event. For Crescenta Valley, we held a booth called Chick-a-Duck where the objective of the game is to get a total of at least 50 points by throwing a duck into a designated hole. If the player is able to accomplish this simple task then they will be able to choose from a variety of duck prizes. The event was also kind enough to give a volunteer a free meal coupon if they worked for more then 4 hours. As the event came to an end, members once start to clean up by putting the tents together or putting away the game materials and prizes. The Duck Splash is an event that the members look forward to every year so give a try next year!

October DCM

@ Verdugo Park Since Fall Rally is coming up, a very exciting day for all attending, a special DCM was held for the attendees to learn the cheers that will be essential for our victory. May different schools attended the DCM, several from Division Three North and several from Division Three South. The schools from North were put on one team while schools from South were put on another in order to create a little competition among peers. How it went was that each team would teach the cheers to the officers and members and then at the end, a little cheer-off would take place. Once the actual teaching began, it became evident that several of the members weren’t as open to the idea of cheering loudly in a crowded park as others. After a while, theses members became less self-conscious and began contributing to the efforts of their friends. The members were really fast learners and it was obvious everyone was having a great time from the way they laughed and the way their cheers echoed through the park. Both teams worked very hard to surpass each other and despite the competitive attitude, neither team had ill-intentioned feelings for the other which made it all the more fun. Once everyone had practiced the cheers and gotten them memorized, it was time for the cheer-off. Both teams met between two trees towards the center of the park which created a dramatic setting as if they were going into battle. Both teams created a wall of cheering spirit on both sides and would alternate to try and out cheer one another. Once the dust has settled I don’t think there was a clear or designated winner just a bunch of Key Club members who had tried their hardest and had a great time doing it. From what was seen, I think everyone is prepared for this year’s Fall Rally and add it to the collection of unifying experiences. It’s going to be a great day! Article By

Rock ‘N Roll Marathon

@ LA LIVE In LA, at 5:30 in the morning there’s really not much happening. However on October 27 the Rock n Roll marathon was going on. It was a place where many different runners came to race, however many of the runners were wearing wacky costumes from superman to zombie brides. However, we volunteers were there to do work. We had first set up all the booths, and set all different kinds of healthy snacks for the runners to eat after their hard work out. These snacks included, oranges, protein bars, water, Gatorade, and even Jamba Juice was there giving out their smoothies to the runners for their hard work. The key club volunteers, who all were there, were under one booth, handing out bagels to the runners. At first no one was at all interested at the bagels, but after a while we had finally managed to hand out more than half of what we were given. Handing out bagels may not seem as tiring as it sounds, but it was, at the end of the day our legs and arms were so sore from handing out all those bagel. From inside the white tent we were in, we were handing out these bagels from these windows; people were a bit scared since they only arms popping out, they thought we were a haunted house idea. The key clubbers there, even they had to wake up early, they work diligently and made sure their lack of sleep did not affect them. While handing out these bagels many of them had done all sorts of things to grab people’s attention to get these bagels. There was dancing and shouting, anything to grab people’s attention. This was an amazing experience, to see all sorts of random costumes, and to meet new people. Article By

Krispy Kreme Bake Sale

@ Front of Froyo in Montrose “Doughnuts! Buy a Krispy Kreme doughnut! Support PTP and EliMiNaTe!” was the only thing you can hear from the Key Clubbers volunteering for the Crescenta Valley Krispy Kreme Bake Sale on November 2 in front of Froyo in Montrose. This wasn’t a service event but rather a fundraising event for our club. It was an event sent up by our fundraising chair Jemma Kawk where the plan was to sell as many Krispy Kreme doughnuts in order to fundraise more money The doughnut price ranged from 1 doughnut for $2, 2 doughnuts for $3, or a box containing a dozen for $15. Because of this amazing price for these delicious doughnuts we gained many customers. Despite the stiff competition against the firemen around the corner and the slow start in the beginning we were still able to make about $150 after the reimbursement. Thankfully the fundraising event went better than we thought it would be in the beginning so please watch out for our other future fundraising events! 10

Member of the Month

He might be the freshest freshmen out there...Tristan Ganzon has been an outstanding Key Clubber this month! Though he may seem shy at some times, when you meet him in person, Tristan’s quite the man. He’s gentle and has the swag. But most importantly, he’s very dedicated. He continues to appear frequently at Key Club events and meetings; even though only officers were expected at certain events, Tristan would always be there! This month, he was present at the Divisional Conference Meeting; furthermore, he will be joining us for Fall Rally South (his first time)! Tristan’s enthusiasm encourages us to keep it up with our joy. We ar proud to have Tristan and we hope to see him grow through service!

Officer of the Month

Playful, optimistic, and trustworthy are all the words that describe John in the Crescenta Valley Key Club family. Although he may not be the life of the party, he does bring to our club the golden smile and his constant dedication that helps our club to further exemplify the joy and effort that are involved in the spirit of service. This month as a project chair in the CV Key Club officer board, he set up and lead our members on an exciting service event, appropriately named, “Rock ‘n Roll Marathon” in LA LIVE. He further exemplifies his efforts dedicated towards Key Club as he plans ahead and has already begun setting up two service events for the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays. John gives all his officers a warm welcome every officer and general meetings as well as the members in every single events. I have great faith in John and his warm welcoming smile, and find him more than capable of leading our club in the future.
