Thanksgiving Run. . . 5

A Message from Your editor! Hello Key Clubbers! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and had a wonderful time bonding with your families and friends! Now that December is here, not only does that mean that Winter break and other holidays are around the corner but that also finals are almost here! I know it’s been a rough couple months (especially for you seniors out there that are applying to colleges. Don’t worry I feel your pain) but we just have to keep pulling through these next couple of weeks then we can relax and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate! Now doesn’t that sound nice? Let’s all study hard and ace our final exams together, okay? Even though we had a nice week-long break, I was proud that some Key Clubbers spent their break volunteering especially at the Thanksgiving Run! I personally have done that event before and I’m sure they enjoyed it just as much as I did. Not only did we have the Thanksgiving Run but we also had the yearly Fall Rally! Even though it took quite a while for Division 3 North to get inside and had a rough time during the spirit session, I’m still glad that that didn’t bring the members down. The Fall Rally attendees still enjoyed the experience despite not winning the spirit stick. Although that was my last Fall Rally, I was still happy that was I was able to met new and old faces and bond with my lovely Division 3 North Ohana! See you guys next month and study hard! Yours truly,

Marianne Lagasca

Cheers, spirit gear, and most importantly friends. Fall Rally South is a time where Key Clubbers from all over Cal-Nev-Ha gather in order to meet for a yearly battle to obtain the magical spirit stick! The divisions have been working hard and strong in order to win over the District Board’s hearts and move on to every round. Although it took over an hour to get into the theme park for Division 3 North, our division still keep our heads up and never lost hope. Despite losing the spirit stick to the White Tigers (congratulations D16!), we all still enjoyed the rest of our day by riding many roller coasters and continually answering the question “Starfish, how do you feel?” all day. We look forward to next year’s Fall Rally however we’ll come back as a stronger division and hopefully win that spirit stick!

Thanksgiving Run

@ Memorial Park On November 28th, Thanksgiving Day the annual Turkey Trot was having their 20th race. Volunteers gathered at 6:00 A.M. to help out at this event. First, we had done pre-registration and onsite registration. We had volunteers checking in the runners and others handing out T-shirts and goodie bags. The warm-ups now started and helped get the runners pumped up and ready for the race. After all the registration was done the volunteers had to clean up and start to cheer for the racers. At the starting line there were many different volunteers aside from key club, like from ROTC. We had sheered the runners and even did the wave multiple times. After we had cheered the racers at the starting it was now time to head to the finish line waiting for the first place winner to show up. And he did, he had done the three mile marathon in about ten minutes. WOW! Then suddenly a flood of runners came out of breath trying to cross that finish line. The volunteers cheered enthusiastically with yellow and green pom-poms for the runners. A wide variety of runners came of all sorts of ages, ranging to a little kid to a teenager and even a senior citizen. The volunteers did their best to encourage the runners to do their best till the very end. Finally, after the marathon it was now time for just the kids to race. They ran very fast and did the best that they could. They did not give up and showed that they could be great runners as anyone else could.

He looks like Haribo gummi-bear; in fact, I’m quite convinced that he is one: he’s a sweet guys packed with flavor and gives energy to other people. Johann Park is always at every service event of meeting there is; his dedication as a freshman Key Club member is outstanding. He frequently represents the starfish emblem, wearing his Key Club shirt to school. He also represents the spirit of service, as he enjoys working for his community in places like the Thanksgiving Day Run or giving back to the community through activities like the World AIDS Day Donation Drive. And in the midst of all this, he is always smiling and enthusiastic! Johann demonstrates the joy, responsibility, and pride of the ideal Key Clubber.

Officer of the Month

Playful, optimistic, and trustworthy are all the words that describe John in the Crescenta Valley Key Club family. Although he may not be the life of the party, he does bring to our club the golden smile and his constant dedication that helps our club to further exemplify the joy and effort that are involved in the spirit of service. This month as a project chair in the CV Key Club officer board, he set up and lead our members on an exciting service event, appropriately named, “Rock ‘n Roll Marathon” in LA LIVE. He further exemplifies his efforts dedicated towards Key Club as he plans ahead and has already begun setting up two service events for the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays. John gives all his officers a warm welcome every officer and general meetings as well as the members in every single events. I have great faith in John and his warm welcoming smile, and find him more than capable of leading our club in the future.
