Bake for 11 minutes at 350º. QUICKLY remove squares with spatula and place on parchment or waxed paper, being careful not to break (they will be soft). Within a few minutes they will start to harden. Greenville: With the classic portrait
of Franklin Roosevelt, along with other city leaders, the center of the mural reflects the stately and historic courthouse, historic churches and historic homes. Lone Oak: Lone Oak gets its name from one lone oak post which is where the roads crossed. In the center of the mural is the entrance to the Wilkes Gold Mine which is no longer operational. Luthersville: Luthersville is named for Martin Luther because earliest settlers were Lutheran. The centerpiece is the CSX train depot which was in what is now the city park. Manchester: The railroad industry has always been a prominent part of Manchester’s past and present.
Warm Springs: The mural is referred to as the Presidents Mural as it depicts three Presidents. In the centerpiece is Franklin Roosevelt who came to Warm Springs seeking treatment for his polio. Woodbury: The enterpiece of Woodbury is the Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge. Constructed by freed slave Horace King, it is the oldest and longest in Georgia. Representing Woodbury’s status as the Pimiento Capital of the World are the bright pimiento peppers, along with other crops.

14 GUIDE TO GEORGIA / November/December 2018
Traveling with little ones? Add SlumberPod to your wish list! Most parents have been there ... you’re away from home at naptime or for an overnight stay with your baby, toddler or small child, and the roomsharing situation is anything but restful. The little one can’t go to sleep with light in the room, or the baby wakes up in the middle of the night and sees others in the room — and won’t go back to sleep! With SlumberPod®, there’s no more setting up the travel crib in a hotel bathroom or renting an extra room or a suite in order to get a good night’s sleep. Visiting family or friends for the holidays is much less stressful (well ... at least for sleeping). Even small children who are sleeping on a toddler cot or inflatable mattress will enjoy the private, cozy space that SlumberPod provides. SlumberPod is a safe, extremely portable, patent-pending solution for family travel. Visit slumberpod.com to order, read the story of the mother-daughter Georgiabased invention team, see testimonials, and/or view videos. Here’s to more nightly nights!

Biblical History Center in LaGrange Biblical History Center was founded in LaGrange in 2006 with the mission of helping people encounter the ancient biblical world through its history and culture. The first seven years consisted of ceaseless construction, adding more learning opportunities through authentic reconstructions of archaeological excavations. The highlight of this continual construction was in 2013 when the Roman theater, with a specially designed gallery for ancient artifacts, was completed. Due to connections in the fields of archaeology, geography and education, the Israel Antiquities Authority agreed to a long term collection of artifacts to be displayed in the new gallery, making Biblical History Center one of only eight museums worldwide to be so honored. Biblical History Center is truly a museum like no other, and the most authentic ancient world experience outside of the Middle East. Visitors can enjoy guided Garden Tours, a Biblical Meal, a tour through the daily life artifacts gallery, bread making under the goat haired tents, a simulated archeology dig, and special events throughout the year. Choose and Cut Your Own Fresh Christmas Tree
–A Georgia Tradition–
Find a tree farm near you. Tree farms are scattered all over the state of Georgia. Go to www.gacta.com and view the Farm Finder map showing the farm locations. Christmas trees and the environment. The Real Christmas tree is a renewable resource that cleans the air by using carbon dioxide to grow and reintroducing oxygen into the air. The young trees growing on the Christmas tree farm for only a few years will provide clean air, erosion control, and habitat for wildlife. The tree can be recycled. It is best to chip for mulch to be used in gardens or farms. Most local communities provide a recycling service drop-off location where the tree can be turned in after Christmas. The Christmas tree farm will replant the field with new trees after the older ones are cut. This keeps a supply of young trees growing in fields that normally not good for other crops. Some things to remember when buying your tree. Many people pick a tree that is too big for the space in their home. The trees in the field look smaller than they will in the home. Go by the size as measured. Ceilings in most homes are 8-9 feet high. It doesn’t make good sense to buy a tree that is 11 feet tall to fit into this space. You will ruin the shape of the tree by trimming the top or bottom to fit the room. Make sure the handle or base of the tree is long enough to fit your stand. Some stands require very little while others require up to a foot. Varieties of trees. Leyland Cypress is the Christmas tree that will not drop needles. They come in several varieties including: Leighton Green, Murray, Naylor’s Blue, Silver Dust and Castlewellan Gold. Some say these trees are hard to decorate. The limbs are not as strong as other varieties, so light weight ornaments and lights should be used. Murray and Naylor’s Blue have slightly stronger limbs. Leyland Cypress have very little tree smell. Carolina Sapphire, Blue Ice, and other Arizona Cypress have a stronger tree smell, but they will dry out sooner than Leyland or pine. Virginia Pine and White Pine are the standby Southern Christmas tree. Virginia Pine is a short needle with stiff branches October 3, 1863, President and a strong pine smell. White Pine has a long needle with softer branches and a Abraham Lincoln issued a softer pine smell. Both make a beautiful Thanksgiving Day proclamation Christmas tree. encouraging Americans Red Cedar is the old time Georgia “in every part of the United Christmas tree.
