P Theatre P Music P Dance P May-Haw To Be Performed at Cotton Hall Theater Colquitt, Georgia, Home of Georgia’s Folk Life Play, Swamp Gravy, will be performing its latest production in July. May-Haw, which is Colquitt’s own version of the classic Hee-Haw show, will again return to Cotton Hall Theater. Talented local volunteers will join together for this production, a fundraiser for the Arts Council, to perform favorite songs and comedy skits from past shows. May-Haw will feature music and many of the TV personalities that fans of Swamp Gravy remember and love. With performers located on all four stages, people in the audience will feel as if they too are a part

of the show. They might even get a glimpse of what looks like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and more! May-Haw will open at Cotton Hall on Friday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. There will be two more shows on Saturday, July 18, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show will also be performed the next weekend, July 25-26, at the same times, 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. National Civil War Naval Museum in Port Columbus Explore naval operations for the North and South through displays of uniforms, artillery, firearms, personal effects, flags, Civil War ship murals, and a paneled timeline exhibit of the war at sea. ANTIQUES, MUSEUMS, AND ART SAM Shortline Railroad Riding in air conditioned, 1949 vintage cars, you’ll enjoy a mix of romantic yesteryear with the excitement of today’s South. The SAM Shortline extends 42 miles past pecan groves and scenic country farms. Veterans State Park in Cordele before boarding the train; and on June 21 an excursion through Southwest Georgia leaving from the Watermelon Festival in Cordele. Georgia Peach Festival in Fort Valley & Byron The 22nd annual Georgia Peach Festival will begin Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, in Byron and continue Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, in Fort Valley with a dazzling array of events and activities for people of all ages scheduled during the week. 6th Annual Gourd Show in Newnan The Georgia Gourd Society is a statewide non-profit organization that uses gourds as the art medium. Fourth of July Events Fourth in the Park Celebration in Marietta The City of Marietta’s Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Friday, July 4, from 10 a.m. until dark. The festivities will begin with the Marietta Freedom Parade at 10 a.m. The Fourth in the Park Celebration on the Marietta Square will feature many booths filled with handmade arts and crafts. Celebrated Across Georgia Brunswick’s Old Fashioned 4th of July Brunswick’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July will kick off Friday, July 4, between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. with a walking parade sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority. The parade will begin at Hanover Square (just south of Old City Hall on Newcastle St.). Everyone is invited to dress up, decorate bikes and wagons (but no motorized vehicles), and march along merrily through the historic downtown. Theme prizes will be awarded. The parade will end at Mary Ross Waterfront Park where the big celebration will begin at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association (GIAHA) and the City of Brunswick, the evening in the park will include great games for all ages–sack race, balloon toss, tug-of-war, hula hoop contest, and more-with prizes for the winners and free watermelon slices for everyone! The local Boy Scout troop will also be selling hotdogs and sodas. Then at dark a spectacular fireworks display will explode over the East River to the strains of patriotic music. Fitzgerald’s Fourth of July Celebration Spend a fun-filled July 4th afternoon at Paulk Park in Fitzgerald enjoying old-fashioned contests, free hotdogs and cokes, free balloons, and a BBQ Cook-Off. There will be a watermelon eating contest and a greased pole contest for both children and adults with prize money for the winners. Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. when a live band will entertain intermittently until dark; then a spectacular fireworks show will be held over a lake at Paulk Park. Celebrate a Fabulous 4th in Conyers The City of Conyers invites you to celebrate our nation’s independence at the 5th Annual Fabulous 4th Festival presented by 104.7 FM The Fish. The event will take place on the Grand Prix Plaza at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. Highlights of this year’s celebration will include arts, crafts, entertainment, children’s arts and crafts tent, and vendors. You can choose your favorite Corvette at the 2 Unique Corvette Car Show and treat yourself to great snacks such as hot dogs, funnel cakes, or ice cream. Riverblast 4th of July Celebration in Augusta The festivities for Augusta Riverblast 2008 will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 4th, and will continue until 11 p.m. at the Riverwalk, the Augusta Common, the 8th Street Plaza, and the Jessye Norman Amphitheatre. There will be more than 50 vendors selling food, crafts, and merchandise. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.This family-oriented event attracts visitors from throughout Georgia and South Carolina; and over the years as many as 100,000 visitors have taken part in the festivities. The Augusta Common will be the Family Area and will offer amusement rides, games, inflatables, arts and crafts, food, and entertainment. Indepencence Day Concert in Warner Robins An Independence Day Concert will be held Thursday, July 3, in Warner Robins at the McConnell-Talbert Stadium on North Davis Drive (I-75 Exit # 146). Performing will be the Air Force Reserve Command Band as well as popular recording group LONESTAR. The concert will be free to the public . Gardens & Nature Programs in Georgia Daylily Season at Massee L ane Gardens Near Fort Valley Thousands of daylilies at Massee Lane Gardens will have their colors on display during June. A special morning of workshops is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m.-noon. Daylily experts Wilfred Huff, Barbara Kirby, and Billy Dick will be leading sessions on soil preparation; choosing varieties and companion plants; disease, insect, and weed control; and hybridization. The program will conclude with a box lunch. Admission to the gardens will be included. Workshop admission will be $10 per person for ACS members and children accompanied by adults and $15 for non-members. Advance reservations are required by June 13.
