ys are the Best! National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus A Victorian Christmas will be held two weekends this year at the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum which will be decorated in traditional Victorian holiday style with circa 1863 decorations and trees. The event, scheduled for December 1-2 and December 8-9 from 1-4pm each day, will feature carolers, Victorian Era entertainment and music, hospitality from local bakeries and coffee shops, and shopping. The museum will be open for guests to tour. A Civil War Era Santa will be there December 8-9 to listen to children’s want lists. Photos with Santa will be available. Santa, as we know him, first appeared at an army camp to pass out presents to soldiers. Prominent political cartoonist Thomas Nash’s 1863 image depicted a jolly, plump, bearded man delivering gifts to Union troops at their encampment, wearing a fur-trimmed suit of patriotic stars and stripes. Enjoy unique shopping in the museum store and explore naval operations for the North and South through displays of uniforms, artillery, firearms, personal effects, flags, murals, a timeline exhibit, ships and ship replicas, and a battle simulator theater. Open daily 9am-5pm. See coupon in ad on page 27. 1002 Victory Drive, Columbus. 706-327-9798. www.portcolumbus.org.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Festival in Port Wentworth The 14th annual Latin Festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be held in Port Wentworth on December 15 from 11am-11pm. V An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2: 9-14
