New Year’s Eve Celebration To Help in Theatre Restoration The President Theatre in Manchester was the first source of real entertainment in 1935 when it was built. Now, using blueprints, plans, and photos, the theatre is being restored while taking full advantage of new materials and contemporary technology. As a fund-raiser for the theatre, a New Year’s Eve Gala will be held Dec. 31 at the Manchester Mill. With a theme of “A Night at the Oscars,” the gala, starting at 7 p.m., will include cocktails, dinner, and dancing. Purvis Pecan Company buys and sells all brands, types, and varieties of pecans and offers a full line of Farm Orchard Management Services as well as international export. Their plan is simple – to assist all growers and producers with their crop sales. Ross Purvis and Scott Craft are both pecan farmers who have worked in the pecan business all their lives. Purvis was raised in Pierce County, is a first handler member in good standing, and began his company in 1997. Craft, from Colquitt, was the farm manager for Merrily Plantation in Boston, Georgia, and comes from a family tradition of 100 years in growing pecans. The team purchased a new 18,000 square foot facility in Douglas and plans to expand next year by adding a cleaning plant. They offer a full line of gift baskets designed to custom order, shelled pecans for sale by the pound, and in-shell pecans in 50 pound bags or greater. The bags of 50 pounds and larger can be picked up at the Douglas facility. Mail order is recommended for the gift baskets and the one-pound bags of pecans. Douglas Festival of Lights Parade The annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade will be held in Douglas on Saturday, December 4, at 6:30 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade will be “I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas.” One of the largest night-time parades in Southeast Georgia, this event will feature over 100 entries watched by over 25,000 spectators. Citizens of all ages will line the streets as the Festival of Lights Parade lights up Peterson Avenue. Christmas Tour of Homes in Madison The Morgan County Historical Society will present its biennial Christmas Tour of Homes in Madison on December 3-4. Holiday Celebrations in Peach County Downtown Fort Valley will boast over a million glowing holiday lights during the Festival of Lights November 26-January 6. National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus A Victorian Holiday Open House will be held December 4-5 at the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum which will be decorated in traditional Victorian holiday style with circa 1863 decorations and trees. Festival of Camellias at Massee Lane in Fort Valley Camellias, the roses of winter, bloom throughout the coolest months during Camellia Days from November until March or April at Massee Lane Gardens, located 5.5 miles south of Fort Valley on GA 49. Easy walking tours wind through ten acres of formal camellia gardens with camellia trees flowering alongside the brick walks. A landscaped greenhouse with camellias and azaleas assures blooms even during the coolest weather. Two galleries showcase exquisite displays of porcelain art. The Festival of Camellias runs every day in February when camellia blooms are at their peak. The first Saturday of February offers free admission. Other events throughout the month will include a Camellia workshop, Camellia culture demonstrations, and entertainment. Camellias and Sasanquas will be for sale.
