NEW YEAR NEW ME???? WOW 2023 arrived in a flash! I am extremely excited to see what this new year has in store for us. I am Lauren Trinity Uy and I proudly serve as Division 13 North’s Division News Editor (DNE) for the ‘22-’23 term :D I would like to formally welcome all readers to the BANANA BULLETIN! I am extremely ecstatic to be publishing the seventh issue of the BANANA BULLETIN! I think I might cry I only have 3 MORE ISSUES TO PUBLISH. This past month has been extremely difficult and crazy (I JUST FINISHED FINALS) but I am so very thankful for my publicity committee, without my amazing committee this newsletter wouldn’t have been possible. Always a special thank you to Bea M, Viennese D, Ryan S, and Javier R. I can’t imagine that we are almost done with everything this term! I am so proud of all the growth and changes that each club continues to strive for.

WOW ELECTION SEASON IS UPON US. It is crazy to think that our seniors have less than 6 months of school left. I hope to see the best officers elected for the future of this division. As well, keep up all the hard work Division 13 North! AS WELLLLL DCON is almost here !! Although I am heartbroken I will be unable to attend due to the sport I am a part of I am always here if anyone has any questions about DCON !!

Lastly with all the hard work I have seen behind the scenes for our division, I would just like to commend all clubs and all officers for working so hard this past month. Everyone continues to improve and help our Division each and every day. Know that your hard work is seen and to KEEP IT UP :))

With that being said, thank you so much for reading this term’s seventh issue of the BANANA BULLETIN! I hope you readers enjoy it!

WHAT’S SWINGING DIVISION 13 NORTH!

HAPPY NEW YEARS! I hope you guys have set goals for the long term and short term this year that you can accomplish! Remember, a smart goal is one that is not too easy that it bores you, but at least hard enough to excite you.

With only a few months left of the term, there is only so much more events we can enjoy. SAD MOMENT! What’s left will be action packed so be sure to stay tuned with your club, the division, and district for upcoming events and deadlines!

Moving into January, members were able to learn so much of Key Club 101, DCON registration, and serve their community at our joint January DCM with Division 13 South. Shoutout to all clubs that have continued serving their communities throughout the holiday season! We have reached our goal of 5000 hours and just hit 5347 this month. In addition we are staying strong with our fundraising goal reaching over $5000!

Keep an eye out with your clubs for DCON registration, information about region conclave (where delegates of every club will vote for the

Lieutenant Governor of our division), and Region Formal! Again, there is only so much time until our seniors must fly away from Key Club, so be sure to attend as many events as possible these last few months!

Thank you for reading this LTG message! Enjoy the issue!

Swingin’ for Service,

Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor ‘22-’23 4

This month is going to be super exciting with Conclave coming up as well as DCON which is coming up in the next couple of months. And of course, we are also nearing the end of the term as well. In the past month, Division 13 North hosted our Cozy January DCM where members were able to hear about club updates, division updates, serve with Division 13 South, learn about Key Club 101, and more!

Division 13 North clubs also kept members engaged during January like Norwalk Key Club’s roller rink fundraiser as well as Lakewood Key Club’s beach clean up service event

We have just reached our 5000 goal, but I believe we can reach even higher. Continue serving, keep it up, Green Monkeys!

Rose Float Decorating

Decorating

On December 30th, Region 8 blissfully plunged into a vibrant world of roses for Region 8 Ohana - Rose Float Decorating! D13N, D13S, D13W, D19N, and D19S all joined efforts. During the Rose Float Decorating, we dispersed into two shifts, the day shift and night shift, learning about fellowship with others as well as the importance of abiding to the rules and cutting down our monkey business in order to keep the environment and the people safe from harm. We were assigned tasks, some small, such as prepping the flowers which would be used for multiple floats, and some large, such as putting their creativity up to the test when decorating the float! After gobbling down PB&J sandwiches, Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, and cookies the Cookie Monster would approve of, we rotated tasks and went back to business! In each task, we put in the utmost amount of effort, with the occasional hollers of “SCAFFOLDING!” as a signal to make way for the people transporting them. Befriending and working together with people from different divisions made the experience more enjoyable as we found more ways to connect! With this year’s theme of Turning the Corner, our float was the International Kiwanis bear mascot surfing, with our theme as “Catching the Wave of Service!”

COZY DCM

On Saturday, December 17th Lakewood Key Club attended DCM was held at Bellflower Kiwanis Hall where many members gathered to get warm and watch a movie. When most members hall we went over past and future events for the division then each over the events and fundraisers they had. We then transitioned Christmas cards and bookmarks for children in hospitals so that try and cheer them up over this Christmas season! While making bookmarks everybody got cozy in their blankets and cuddled their get ready to watch Lilo and Stitch! The DCM was super enjoyable people shared a good time. Overall, the event was a huge success.

MAYFAIR ICE SKATING FUNDRAISER

GAHR FUNDRAISER

Hi hi Mayfair Monkeys! On December 23rd from 7:15 PM - 9:15 PM, Mayfair Key Club hosted their annual ice skating fundraiser at Lakewood ICE! The long awaited fundraiser had many jumping for joy and so excited to get on the ice. Once we were there, lots of members, not only from our club, but many other divisions and branches of our kiwanis family came out and enjoyed themselves while ice skating. Even new skaters came out and learned how to glide, while veteran ice skaters were always open to helping them. I’m happy to say that most, if not all, had a great time. We even had some Hamilton fans who started rapping in a circle. Weird? Nope, it’s just the Mayfair Key Club :) I hope everyone else comes to more events to enjoy our Key Club family :D!

On December 10th, 2022 from 5pm-7pm Gahr Key Club had a Club Ice skating fundraiser at the East West Ice Palace. I had a really great time at this key club fundraiser and really experienced a fun dynamic from this club. Although the event was only for 2 hours it provided everyone that put time and money into the event with a lot of fun to see and skate with friends. Many people from other key clubs came and showed their support as they paid their entrance fee and started skating with their friends and/or loved ones. The event wasn’t closed off solely for the Gahr Key Club fundraiser but it was nice and fun regardless of how many people were on the rink. All in all it appeared that everyone who went to support the Gahr Key Club had a fun time!
