WHAT’S SWINGING DIVISION 13 NORTH!

IT’S FEBRUARY! I hope that 2023 has been SERVING you well, and we all know there is nothing better to give back than to serve our communities. I hope as we flourish throughout this month, we are able to find joy in community service projects, and even helping with the small things like giving compliments to strangers, holding a door, or even saying hi to a new friend.

Two more months until the term is over! Don’t be sad, but be happy for what there is to celebrate. With these last two months, please stay tuned with the division and your club for upcoming events and the long awaited District Convention 2023!

Moving into February, members elected and met the new-bee Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor Elect Elizabeth Gilmore at Region 8 Conclave! Elizabeth has been working side by side our division as our Service Projects Coordinator and I know all of us are so excited for the term ahead of her. If you see her at an upcoming division event, don’t forget to congratulate her!

In addition, members were able to party with our best friends, our region 8 team. Along with Division 13 South, 13 West, 19 North, and 19 South, we were able to celebrate our term together while dancing to music and enjoying o’dourves. I’m sure it was a night to remember and others can totally agree!

Please keep an eye out for information regarding District Convention 2023! Party for 3 days in Ontario, California and watch as I retire and Elizabeth get installed for the 2023-2024 term. Personally I have felt the motivation that attending DCON has left on so many members of Key Club and I have made my best moments there!

Thank you for reading this LTG message! Enjoy this February issue!

Swingin’ for Service,

Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor ‘22-’23

What’s Swinging’ Monkeys !

ELECTIONS ELECTIONS ELECTIONS ELECTIONS ELECTIONSSSSS !!! I hope all potential candidates for the new term are ready and hyped to serve your community <3 memorize your speech and know your goals for the term! you got this 100%.

as everyone is slowing down and getting ready for new things , STOP! because we still have so many more events in store like division banquet and DISTRICT CONVENTION :0 For those who are unfamiliar with dcon , it’s our end of the term convention with all the divisions in our district! we go to workshops, meet new people, and ultimately celebrate all those retiring their term and installing into the new one. it’s a 3-day event so make sure you don’t miss out and register ASAP!

this last term for me has been crazy, and I can’t believe it’s the seniors last! seniors only have about 4ish months of school left until we graduate and leave high school for good. end of an era for real… so make it count! live it up seniors because we deserve it :)

that’s all for me division 13 north ! with peace and love <3

Heyyy Division 13 North!!!

Just a few more months and… it’s all over. What a journey it has been! I could cry tears of joy!

We still have a lot of fun stuff going on up until our banquet. DCON for example, that is a must go in my personal opinion! Region 8 Formal, DCM’s, there’s still a good chunk of term to go. I hope school is going well I hope that transition out of high school is laying out smoothly.

I wish the best for all of you and have a good day!

OOH AH WHATS SWINGING D13N?!

This past month has been very eventful with Conclave and the R8 and I genuinely hope everyone had fun. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE D13N LTG ELECT, ELIZABETH GILMORE!!!

I can't wait to see what the next term holds, but until then, let's end this term strong and continue to attend events! With that, keep in mind that club elections are coming soon so if you have any interest in running for a board position for your home club, don't be afraid to reach out to the board members at your school and don't be afraid to reach out to me too!

District Convention (DCON) is approaching soon so hopefully you have already signed up and I hope to see you all soon at events!

5

In the past month, Division 13 North participated in Region 8 Conclave where members were able to welcome our newly elected Lieutenant Governor for the 2023-2024 term, Elizabeth Gilmore!

Division 13 North clubs also kept members engaged during February like Mayfair Key Club’s Key to my Heart Valentine’s Social as well as Lakewood Key Club’s Community Mural Painting Event!

Let’s continue to serve our communities all the way until DCON! There are only a few more months left of the term so let’s make the best of it.

LAKEWOOD BEACH CLEAN UP

10

On Saturday, January 28th Lakewood Key Club held a Beach clean-up at Seal beach!! Our members had to wake up super early at 8 in the morning just to be able to attend this Clean up. When everybody arrived at the location we quickly got our bags and put on our gloves so we could prepare to pick up some of that litter!! Not many people attended this event but that didn't stop us from filling up 4 bags of trash. We all enjoyed our time and made the most of it just while doing community service! For example, some of us found some cool toys and some pretty shells that shimmered in the sunlight. Even just halfway through the event, it seemed like we had picked up every speck of trash that was on the sand. Since there was nothing else to pick up everybody just walked over to the rocks to take some pictures and sat just waiting for the clock to hit 12 so we could get our 4 hours of service! Some of us even picked up huge sticks we found and started writing things in the sand trying to promote our club! Overall the Beach Clean Up was a great success and I would love to do another one soon.

D13N X D13S SERVATHON

Ryan Sok

Division Tech Editor|Gahr

Divisions 13 North and 13 South had reunited once again for Servathon January DCM on January 21st at Bellflower Kiwanis Hall from 4 to 7 PM! Upon the publicization of this event I was extremely excited that we had another event with our fellow Ninjas- this would be our second event together of the term, following July’s wild Family Feud DCM. This month’s DCM emphasized the trend of 2016’s YouTube “D.I.Y.” (Do-It-Yourself), specifically for the purpose of community service and making of dog toys and leis to be donated to those in need. As the dress code was Freaky Friday and switching colors with our sister division, I came in all black attire, from my shirt, to my jeans, to my Converse. The event began with a silly goofy icebreaker in which all attendees were split into multiple lines and had to come up with a small choreo and memorize it while continuing to add more. Think of it like a game of Telephone- by the end, everyone had something completely whacky and different and they showcased it to the audience. It was hilarious. Upon re-entering the hall, we went over our monthly recap and updates and then it was time for service! I worked on the dog toys, which consisted of cutting and twisting old thrifted t-shirts to upcycle and repurpose them as a fun shenanigan for dogs to drool and lick and play with. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone working together to make a positive impact in their community. It was a chill yet interactive environment, but the bittersweetness of this being the second to last DCM before the end of the term, especially with our Ninjas, was slightly saddening.

R8 CONCLAVE

14

This conclave, held on February 4th, was a very big day for me and the region!! After lots of nerves and preparation this was the big day of electing the new region 8 LTGs! Key clubbers got dressed in nice formal wear, myself in a suit, and delegates and other audience members all gathered in to watch the speeches and caucus of the candidates. I was first up and weeks of preparation paid off as I delivered my speech and answered caucus questions. After that the audience members got to watch the speeches of the other region 8 candidates while candidates not on stage prepared nervously or relaxed behind the scenes. After 6 hours and some Panda Express it was finally time for the results to be announced! I was elected as a region 8 LTG elect alongside Stephen Nguyen, Katherine Dinh, Kaycee Daez, and Kylie Dela Cruz. It was a very momentous day and it was great to see all the new leadership of region 8, and of course start my new journey in key club!!
