HOW DO YOU DO DIVISION 13 NORTH GREEN MONKEYS?!!? I am Lauren Trinity Uy and I proudly serve as Division 13 North’s Division News Editor (DNE) for the ‘22-’23 term :D I would like to formally welcome all readers to the BANANA BULLETIN! I am extremely ecstatic to be publishing the third issue of the BANANA BULLETIN! This past month has been amazingggg and crazy but I am so very thankful for my publicity committee, without my amazing committee this newsletter wouldn’t have been possible . In addition, I would like to give a huge shoutout to all of the division. We have all been working so hard with the start of school and “Club Rush”. “Club Rush” within our own schools is essential to the growth of our division. It is that with the help of hard working members in our division that we are able to continue growing and helping the community we live in more and more.

Isn’t it crazy that we are already swinging to the end of September? This month for our Division we had the amazing September Service Day to start off this month strong. And we ended it with my personal key club moment last year. I hope we were able to make this new member’s key club moment.

Lastly with all the hard work I have seen behind the scenes for our division, I would just like to commend all clubs and all officers for working so hard this past month. Everyone continues to improve and help our Division each and every day. Know that your hard work is seen and to KEEP IT UP :))

With that being said, thank you so much for reading this term’s second issue of BANANA BULLETIN! I hope you readers enjoy it!

WHAT’S SWINGIN’ DIVISION 13 NORTH!

My name is Kai Noah Jugo and I proudly serve as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2022-2023 term! We are hitting that half way mark of the term and we have already accomplished so much. From reaching over 50% of both our PTP and service hour goal and high attendance at our most recent division events, I am so grateful and proud to see where Division 13 North has landed themselves for the beginning of the school year.

Speaking of school year, school is officially now in session for every club of our division! Meaning.. CLUB RUSH!! In terms of recruitment, remember to continue inviting people to service projects, fundraisers, and social events so that they can get a taste of what Key Club has to offer! If you’re new here, welcome and I hope you stay and I meet you soon!

Now onto Night Market! Yes, the biggest DCM of the entire term is here! We have so many awesome clubs who will be fundraising towards the Pediatric Trauma Program with food like loaded fries, nachos, popcorn, and so much more. I hope to see you there and invite a friend or two with you!

Thank you for reading my LTG letter this month and enjoy the rest of this September Issue!

Swingin’ for Service,

Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor ‘22-’23

Division 13 North clubs also kept members engaged this start of the school year through Bellflower Key Club’s Long Beach Community Table service event as well as Norwalk Key Club’s Raising Cane's fundraiser.

Every club of Division 13 North held successful club rushes with 700+ sign ups as a division as a whole!

On August 13th, Cerritos Key Club attended Division 13 North’s Bingo Night. The event took place at Bellflower Kiwanis hall and went on from 3 to 6 PM. The event began with multiple rounds of Bingo and at the halfway mark we stopped to buy banana bread from Saint Joseph’s fundraiser. Bingo Night was ultimately a great opportunity to meet new people and win lots of cool prizes such as snacks and stuffed animals, while also supporting our division.

MAYFAIR MOVIE NIGHT

Events Committee Fundraising Chair & EA |Mayfair

On July 15th from 5:00-7:30 pm, Mayfair Key Club held an incredibly successful Movie Night Fundraiser at the Bellflower Kiwanis Hall, earning a total of around $400! Food such as ramen, candy, popcorn, and nachos were all sold with an admission fee of $4. Free water was also provided to keep members hydrated and happy. The theme for the Movie Night was Studio Ghibli and the movie that was shown was Howl's Moving Castle! The decorations and posters around the Bellflower Kiwanis Hall were created in order to match this theme, with fairy lights at the entrance and the lights turned off for the movie. The ambience at the hall was very cozy and friendly with many new faces from our school and incoming freshmen showing up.

REGION 8 RIO-LYMPICS

Member |Bellflower

On August 20th, It was the Region 8 Rio-lympics DCM, hosted at Heartwell Park, Long Beach. My first ever Key Club event. If I’m being entirely honest with you, it was nerve-racking: I did not know anyone there except one person. Elize, the Bellflower Key Club president and my best friend, was that person. She introduced me to a couple of her friends from our school and others within the same region (Region 8)/division (we’re Division 13 North). From club officers to just general members, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. I fit in right away and my nervousness disappeared, it felt like I’d been in this club for a long time. I then went to pay $5 (it was for a donation) and got my team number. I was in team 1- Mary’s Little Lambs!! Why Mary’s Little Lambs you ask? Because our team leader’s name is Mary- the Head Spirit Coordinator from Lakewood Key Club. Before we had a division meeting where we updated each other about our school’s Key Club’s future events, we played a little game. It was a dance game called “poncho”, everyone was so lively. We then ate lunch which was pizza and chips and went into our little friend groups and just chatted (our group played early 2000s songs). From there on we played more games, only this time, they included water. I only participated in one of the games where two teams would compete against each other to shoot the ball in the baskets with water in them. I think we lost. The day came to an end and everyone joined together to discuss more things. Me and BKC took photos and someone threw a water balloon at me. It was a memorable experience, I would say. From that day on, my view on Key Club changed.

EMERSON COMMUNITY

GARDEN SERVICE

Kiwanis Family & Foundation Chair CNH |Mayfair For 3 hours on July 9th, Division 13 North members from Mayfair and Bosco volunteered at the Emerson Community Garden. Despite the hot sun, it was extremely fun and a great learning experience! Many of the regular volunteers had gardening expertise from other community gardens, and they were able to teach us about the importance of native plants, specific gardening techniques, and landscaping. Key Club members rotated between jobs such as weeding, trimming, planting, and measuring. Most memorable was the welcoming and wholesome atmosphere! The adult gardeners had provided us with refreshments, and many of us left the garden with gifts of homegrown tomatoes and sunflowers. We also learned about the purpose of the garden- providing organic foods to low-income families in the communitymaking the experience that much more fulfilling. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

GAHR’S FIRST GENERAL MEETING YEAR

BELLFLOWER| ELIZE DIZON

What is SWINGING Division 13 North! My name is Elize Dizon and I proudly serve as Bellflower Key Club’s President for the 2022-2023 term! September has actually been a really great month for BKC and we’ve been active on both the club and division level! We’ve had new members attend both Region 8 Riolympics DCM and Aloha Run which were a lot of fun! I fell into the grass with a friend of mine during the 3 legged race at DCM and cheering for the the marathon runners was exciting to say the least On August 16th & 17th we had our school’s annual club rush and we were able to have around 100 signups for BKC! Since club rush though we’ve actually been increasing in the number of members interested in joining Key Club and we have roughly 120 members in our Google Classroom right now. We had our first general meeting of the school year with around 90 attendees and we also had our second general meeting this last Monday! We had a successful first service event of the school year at Long Beach Community Table with a lot of new members who attended! It was kind of hot and sticky packing food in the warehouse but we enjoyed each other’s company and most of us walked to Starbucks after, and time just flew by. We also had our Baskin-Robbins fundraiser where we were able to raise $75 for PTP!! Overall, this whole month has been a privilege serving with my officers and a lot of the new and returning members of BKC. We finally have a complete board again with Mia Garcia being our Treasurer for the rest of this term and I can’t thank my officers enough for stepping up to the plate this month. Some upcoming events we’ll be having are our Thrift Store project which we’ll be continuing for the rest of the term where we help manage the Buc Bargains store at our school. We’ll also be having a member workshop with Mayfair Key Club so stay updated about the details on that when we release more info! I hope you all have a memorable Nightmarket DCM ‘cause it’s not one to miss! Speaking of memories… make them last forever by going to Bellflower’s polaroid marriage booth where we’re taking polaroids, giving ring pops, and marriage certificates! 3 tickets for 2 people and an additional ticket for any of your friends that would like to be in the picture! Thank you everyone and enjoy Nightmarket DCM!!!

Helping with setting up, distributing food, escorting the elderly, directing traffic, helping with registration, as well as helping with cleaning up the event. Not only did we get to enjoy delicious bentos while experiencing live entertainment, but we also had a turnout of 23 volunteers! Additionally we have found our new faculty advisor for the term and have been planning club week which we hope to gain numerous amounts of members! Once again I am Jonathan Guerrero, serving as your Cerritos KC president, and I hope you all enjoy September Night Market DCM!
