Fall Rally South is a HUGE fundraiser that CNH holds in order to raise money and awareness for the Pediatric Trauma Program! Lieutenant Governors and our District Board are auctioned off and bought by divisions with the money they’ve fundraised throughout the term. During the auction there is also a spirit battle where Divisions from all over Southern California and Nevada fight it out in the Golden Bear Theater in order to win the prestigious spirit stick in their sessions. Unfortunately, the Ninjas didn’t bring home the spirit stick this year, but that’s okay! You all still showed your pride and spirit for service and our division and we’re still proud of you regardless of whether or not we brought home the spirit stick. During the day Key Clubbers had the opportunity to ride rides and meet each other through free hugs along with showing their divisional spirit through spirit battles.

On Thursday, November 6, Mayfair Key Club members went to Esther Lindstrom Elementary School to help Lindstrom’s K-Kids make blankets. The event started at 3 p.m. and lasted until 4 p.m. Ciairra Riley, Mayfair Key Club’s President, gave a tutorial on how to make the blankets, and then everyone went outside to sit on the grass and begin making blankets. There was a large turn out, so the K-Kids made groups of five, with Key Clubbers included, to make blankets faster. The K-Kids and Key Clubbers all picked up on how to make the tie blankets easily, which allowed for more blankets to be made. Just in that hour, ten blankets were made. The blankets will be donated to Long Beach Mission Homeless Shelter. This was a great way to celebrate “Connect the K’s” during Key Club Week. Mayfair and Lindstrom’s officers were able to meet and work together, plus Mr. Howard was able to attend and join in! Hopefully Mayfair and Lindstrom’s Key Clubs will be able to work together again soon.

The yearly Halloween Trick-or-Treat event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce was October 23. The usual celebration had entertainment all along Bellflower Blvd. with local hometown businesses participating in passing out candy to the community. Families dressed up with their young ones in cute costumes and walked the boulevard visiting each store along the way that handed out sweet treats. The public festivity brought the community and its families closer through a fun-filled and costume-y gathering. Key clubbers did their parts by playing the crosswalk guard role and answered to the parents who needed assistance. Interacting with the lovely families and their adorably dressed up kids (even those “spooky little ones!) was an enjoyable experience for Key Clubbers to join in on the Halloween spirit.

The annual Special Olympics Swim Meet held at the Thompson Park Aquatic Center took place on October 12. This yearly event hosts swimming activities and mini-competitions for the local Special Olympians. Some of the water games included the freestyle, back stroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and other relays. There were about 30 members from Bellflower High School who had served over 100 hours of service that day. (Gahr High School had also came close to Bellflower High in number of volunteers.) Overall, the volunteers from all schools of the division had totaled to a number around 100 making for a record turnout at the Special Olympics event. Key clubbers volunteering were all over the place making this very event possible. From being in the pool assisting the swimmers, guiding them, and cheering them on! They also prepared and served the food that the swimmers would later enjoy. All the participants were celebrated at the awards ceremony with medals for the day’s accomplishments. Key Clubbers brought the positive enthusiastic energy needed to cheer on the Olympians and make their day. Apple Nou | Bellflower

On the night of October 29, 2014, St. John Bosco High School presented our 2nd Annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration. The celebration was complete with painted faces, delicious food, live mariachi and jazz music, and a beautiful prayer service. SJB's own Key Club played a few important roles throughout the night. Our club's moderator, Ms. Aguilera, was in charge of organizing the event, and enlisted our help in ensuring that it ran smoothly. We had about ten members attend the event, representing Key Club with pride in our shirts and ties. In the days leading up to the event, our Key Club members were tasked with making paper flowers to display and sell at the celebration. Before the event, our members stood at the front of the school and greeted our guests with smiles. When the celebration began, we returned to our club's table and began educating as many people as possible about our club and its missions. Our club members told the event's attendees about the Pediatric Trauma Program and collected donations. All in all, the Dia de los Muertos Celebration was a wonderful way for the St. John Bosco Key Club to help our school community and raise money and awareness for a good cause.
