Congratulations again on winning the spirit stick Giraffes! With the beach clean-up and RTC under our belt, Fall Rally should be no problem! :) Props to Brandon Swan for taking the initiative and creating so many new cheers for Division 15. Since there was so much that went on at RTC, here's a short excerpt of what A Million Ways to Discover was like.
The Most Enthusiastic “Conference” One Would Experience- Region 13 RTC My first experience at a Regional Training Conference turned out to be a BLAST‼ With spirit battles, entertaining workshops, people dressed and pumped up, icebreakers, and inspiring division leaders, it was just a mini D-CON! What really stood out from the many doings of RTC was the family feeling that I’ve never really got to experience completely at other divisional events. Now don’t take me wrong, I absolutely love DCM’s and other Divisional socials, but at the RTC the family relation among Key Clubbers advanced a step. Everyone stepped out their comfort zone and into the crazy KEYCLUB spirit. As LTG’s put on Oppa Gangnam Style as a little “special”, everyone started dancing like he or she would in front of only close friends and family members. The sight was amazing, even I who absolutely refuses to dance in front of people got pumped up and did a few wiggles from right to left. Furthermore, LTG’s did a fantastic job introducing icebreakers. For one of my workshops, we revealed our playful kindergarten selves as we played 4 corners and musical chairs. After tripping over chairs and different feet, I met so many new people and of course Facebook friends (HAHA) that I look forward into meeting next time. Like always, saving the best for last, DIVISION 15 WON THE SPIRIT STICK. With our participation, enthusiasm, and of course our voices, we were able to once again stick the giraffe head back up on the spirit stick. Now our spirit doesn’t just end there! Cheers from other divisions were so catchy that I chanted them the whole way back home. At the end as we continued our tradition of asking “HOW DO YOU FEEL,” a few of us even got warned that the RTC was over. With such enthusiasm, I have the confidence that we will win the spirit stick at the next stop, Fall Rally. -Joyce Xiong, Chino Hills High School

Once again, the key clubbers of Ontario High School were united on Saturday October 13, 2012 at the Salvation Army in Ontario Ca. This time, however, the key clubbers were separated into two separate groups; the first group was in charge of organizing all the pre packed food in the Salvation Army’s pantry, and the second group was to move and organize pallets of donated items. The members separated into their assigned groups and their service began. The first group was shocked with the plethora of canned food, but in the end they still had fun while organizing everything into its proper place. Jokes were exchanged, laughter was eminent in the work area, and all while doing their duty as key club members. Later on in the day a group of elementary school girls arrived to help the members organize the pantry. The elementary girls were eager and excited to help out the key clubbers in anything they could; this was a heartwarming sight. The second group was working in the garage area of the Salvation Army helping organize the palettes of various items donated to the charity. The palettes were lifted by a forklift, operated by Jim Zitterkopf, and placed in a more suitable area. While their duty was more physically tiring, the members were still happily willing to help the Salvation Army employees carry anything they needed assistance in. The end result was that the Storage Room almost doubled in size after the various organized efforts of the Kiwanis members and the key clubbers in cleaning up the storage room. In essence, our second time participating at the Salvation Army this scholastic year was yet again a success. That day is a prime example of how one should think when doing community service with Key Club. The members worked hard for charity while having fun with their fellow key clubbers and friends. - Karen Diaz

The Key Club members aided the bowlers by carrying out simple tasks for them while the players vivaciously enjoyed the games to the fullest. The volunteers cheered on the players and though it was a small part of their duty, it surely played a big role in further encouraging them. Each of the Key Clubbers received three score sheets and kept track of his/her assigned player to pick the champion later on. This opportunity gave every participant an elated time, allowing the bowlers and the Key Clubbers to leave the place with very “special” memories. The Claremont Kiwanis Club never misses a chance to offer the Claremont High School Key Club students enthralling volunteering opportunities of very great events with great people, and recently, we were blithely invited to an exciting fundraiser called the “Special Olympics”. As fun as bowling is itself, this event successfully brought together the bowlers and the Key Club members to double up the fun, assisting the ones in need at the same time. The members’ strong sense of service was triggered by the heartwarming atmosphere and the bowlers and the Key Clubbers collaborated to create a memorable and enjoyable night for everyone. - Hyeonji Shim

The hot, humid air of September was just crying out for a car wash and Upland Key Club answered that cry. On September 20th, Key Clubbers woke up early on a Saturday to fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Program. The week before, members were hastily selling presale tickets for only $5. Other members were energetically baking away in kitchens, putting cookies, brownies, and cupcakes in warm ovens. Key Clubbers Kayla Yamada and Janet Ho visited Upland-Foothill Kiwanis early Wednesday morning to sell even more car wash tickets. Kiwanis bought over 40 tickets helping our sales with a $200 boost. During the car wash, members were working hard washing over 50 cars and selling baked goods to the drivers. Although this was only the second week of the new Key Club year, members were friendly and social to one another. Members spontaneously cheered the Division 15 HOT cheer and others like Lori Madrid and Lauren Van Lul did a small spirit battle. The day ended with soaked Key club shirts, tired members, sugared-out customers, and shiny cars. All of our hard work was worth it because Upland Key Club made a total of $731.60 for PTP. - Sebaah Hamad

Membership Update Center Frequently Asked Questions What is the purpose of the Membership Update Center? The Membership Update Center (MUC) is the system that Aktion Clubs, Circle K clubs, and Key Clubs use to add and/or delete members from their club rosters. Using the system ensures that Kiwanis International has the most up-to-date information, that new members receive their materials, and that proper billing can occur. Who has access to the system? For Key Clubs and Circle K clubs, access is granted to the faculty advisor and the club secretary. For Aktion Clubs, access is granted to the agency/facility advisor and the sponsoring Kiwanis club advisor. The email addresses for these individuals is how they gain access to the system. How do I get a password? Logging into the MUC requires an email address. The first time you log-in, click on “Register/Reset Password” and enter your email address when prompted. You will then be emailed a link to set up a password. I am the faculty advisor and/or club secretary and it’s not letting me login with my email? What should I do? Contact member services at Kiwanis International (memberservices@kiwanis.org). Likely we have your email entered incorrectly or an advisor change was not reported last year. What if our club currently does not have a faculty advisor or club secretary? The easiest thing to do is to elect or appoint someone as club secretary as soon as possible, and then email member services at Kiwanis International to report their information. That person will then be able to log in. Why do you require email addresses for Key Club and Circle K members? We are asking your dues-paying club members to provide it, so that we can send them the communications that are their benefits of membership. In this digital age, Key Club and CKI have moved many resources into electronic forms. For example, all issues of the CKI magazine and all but one of the Key Club magazines are now provided electronically. In short, an email address is how these members receive their membership benefits. The member email addresses and other contact information will NEVER be provided to external entities. They will be used only by Key Club/CKI staff for Key Club/CKI purposes. This is required by Kiwanis International policies.
