Ronald McDonald House
“Every month, Desert Oasis’s Key Club takes part in volunteering at Ronald McDonald House. No, it is not McDonald’s as in the fastfood restaurant. It is a place where families can stay close to their hospitalized child at little to no cost. With the help of our Kiwanis, we cook food for those families. This month, we decided to cook chicken adobo and rice along with lettuce cups. For my part, I had to cook the rice as well as shred/cut carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes. As a person who has very little experience cooking, it was a bit confusing on how to properly prepare them, but I was very proud for not cutting myself in the end. Once we all had everything done, the families were able to come down to the kitchen and help themselves to some tasty dinner. While the families were enjoying their dinner, the Kiwanis and the club members that came had a meeting in a separate room where we discussed any previous and upcoming events. During the meeting, the president of the LVYP Kiwanis mistakenly set down their bell and gavel on the table. Within a few seconds, a member from our club took that opportunity and snatched both the bell and gavel. Everyone in the room was taken aback by that; no one was expecting that to happen, but somehow it turned out very well. After the meeting, we all headed back into the kitchen where we got to dig in and eat the food that we cooked. The food was very delicious, and I was very satisfied with how everything turned out. Later this month, I will be heading back there in hopes of making more memories at Ronald McDonald House!“

WI n t er InductIon Banquet
“It seems fitting to end my last year in Key Club with the Winter Banquet and an honor to have my friends with me as I was inducted for the last time. As a senior, this would be one of my last chances to see most of the people in Key Club gathered together. Key Club never fails to amazes me with the dedication and hard work that each member puts into it, and it shows with how many people were inducted this winter. Although it left a bittersweet feeling in me, I’m glad that I had the chance to attend the Winter Banquet to enjoy Key Club as much as I can before I graduate. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience to have, and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way.”
