Can you believe that school is starting?! i definitely don’t believe it either, mostly because the weather is still the same. While summer was fun, i hope you all had the chance to attend service events and help others out in your freetime. since school is starting, its time to start up weekly club meetings, and possibly weekly events as well! keep in mind that you should start advertising rtc to your members, and incoming freshmen to encourage them to attend! Remember that payments for rtc will be due at the september dcm! now with school starting, it will be hard to juggle service and education. to integrate service into your school schedule, try saving saturdays for service events. i wish you all the best of luck with school!

LTG Letter from the Hello seamonkeys! LTG As we bid farewell to summer and enter the new school year, there are many things to keep in mind. Ask yourself: "How will I make the most of my time? What can I do to make this year unforgettable? What is a legacy that I want to leave?" It is no secret how stressful trying to juggle our commitments as students and our extracurricular activities is, but we must not forget to breathe and relax every once in a while. Avoid being overwhelmed in the school year by planning ahead and establishing goals for yourself that you will achieve. I believe in you all! Have you been continuing to serve your homes, schools, and communities? The division has averaged over 2,000 service hours per month - an absolutely phenomenal number! Let's try to keep this up as much as we can! Always feel free to ask your club president or even me for service projects and events that you can attend. Being a servant leader is how we embody Key Club and inspire others to do the same. Excited for upcoming events like Region Training Conference and Fall Rally South? Don't forget to ask your club president and advisor how you can attend these amazing events. Deadlines for fees are coming soon, and I want to see YOU attend! I guarantee that these are two events you will not want to miss, and it will be the best ones yet. Last, but not least, I would like to extend my greatest gratitude to every member in the division who has been so active and enthusiastic about Key Club in the first quarter of the term. You all are truly what makes serving worth it, and I could not be prouder to serve Division 28 West. This time of the year is certainly stressful for all of us, but never forget to utilize your support system (which includes me!). As always, if ever you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'm here to serve you all and nothing makes me happier than seeing the bright shining smiles on each of your faces. Happy reading, and I wish you the best of luck in this back-to-school season!

During the end of july, our region 5 ltg’s and district leaders made their way to the summer board training conference. along with learning new information about key club international, these leaders took the time to participate in the cnh summer olympics! this was a great way for the eternibees to bond with one another and to create wonderful summer memories.

The July DCM was fun! We were reminded that the hard work of each club did not go unnoticed. Awards we're handed out to outstanding key clubs and individual members as well. At the end of the DCM we had a water balloon fight which I had a great time participating. Everyone worked together to pick up the popped water balloons afterwards. John Paul Aviendo, swcta
The july dcm was definitely fun to attend! i had lots of fun seeing key clubbers from other divisions, some of which, i even knew! there were a lot of water balloons to go around, so the water balloon fight lasted pretty long. overall, i had a great time and would highly encourage others to attend dcms. It was a blazing morning at the local Denny's when Clark Key Club decided to hold their Car Wash Fundraiser. Although there was dearth in the amount of members present, mostly due to being held during summer vacation, we successfully switched between sign advertising to car washing whenever a customer would appear. Each wash was only $5. The relentless heat didn't stop us, as we quickly (but also meticulously) scrubbed each vehicle down to every speck of dirt. At one point, we were even sponsored by a local radio station, to help our cause! With help from friendly donations, we reached our goal of $100! It was a very fun experience. We even saw another group of teenagers doing a car wash less than a block away! The competition only served to make us work harder! Our advisor was also very encouraging, and without her, we couldn't even hold an event such ambitious as this. chelsa edano, clark
Many might be embarrassed of this story because of the issues it presents and the trouble it created. However, for me, it was an event that really proved the undeniable influence of determination. Recently, over the summer, our club has been experiencing problems with member motivation. No one is truly interested in coming to our events except for a token few extraordinary members. It is the season to be lazy and carefree, and to vacation, so it is understandable why not every member is jumping up from bed in the morning to do service - even though I would very much like it if they would. The board and I have tried numerous tactics to increase member involvement - contacting members personally, posting on social media, talking to anyone we see in person, etc. -but nothing was really working. In the midst of this struggle, we hit our lowpoint. A car wash had been planned on a Saturday to raise funds for club purposes (especially RTC spirit gear and DCON). When I showed up that morning, around 8am at the location, I was saddened - but not surprised, to see no familiar faces. For four hours, it was our advisor, historian, and secretary, and me holding up signs along the sidewalk, washing cars, and so on. It was difficult, but not impossible, even though we faced other obstacles (such as a competing car wash just across the shopping lot). The most important thing that I will take from this experience is how determination, positivity, and optimism can impact performance. Especially as the president, the face of the club, I need to remain energetic and hopeful to not ruin the morale of the members. At the start, when I saw no members, I was convinced the day was a failure, that we would just have to pack up and go home and that would be that. But Ms. Wong, our advisor, changed my perspective when she insisted that four people may not be a lot, but it is enough to keep this event alive. So we cheered and washed and laughed and, in the end, raised exactly $100 for our efforts. We were surely exhausted, but far from defeated, and that is how I know that I will be able to change the way things have been going, and bring the sense of comminity and passion for service back to my club.

In the Heat Check your seats in the heat was a great event that I have never done before. Sadly, many parents often leave their kids or a smell pet in the back of their cars while they go grocery shopping. The underestimate how hot it can get inside a big block of metal. Even though most parents would not forget their kids, you're never really 100% certain and just a simple reminder to a few dozen parents could mean a big difference. Working and getting to know two Kiwanians better was also really neat. ken estimos, clark

Volunteering at the Rainbows in the Wind festival was quite the experience! With days of preparation, our members prepared a "Feed the Minion" toss in hopes for the attendees' enjoyment. At the event itself, it warmed my heart seeing the darling kids have fun and try their hardest in order to successfully throw the ball into the (cardboard) minion's mouth! The kids were such good sports and their smiles shined brightly throughout their efforts. It was wonderful knowing that we not only helped provide entertainment, but we played a role in raising money for kids just like the ones the got to play with! I would definitely do this again in a heartbeat.

The Rainbows in the Wind Festival was great! Kids were laughing and enjoying themselves while the Little Miss Hannah foundation was able to raise money for a good cause. I helped out at West CTA’s “Minion Toss”booth where kids were instructed to toss a ball into a minion’s mouth. We had a great time giving out candy and playing Minion Toss with the kids. overall the event was a great success for Key Clubbers and the foundation! Jillian andreotolla, desert oasis
My Key Club Story... Why, hello there fellow Seamonkeys!
My name is Kristen Canlas, and I currently serve as president for West CTA Key Club. My Key Club story goes all the way back to November 2011. I was first introduced to this wonderful organization by a friend who was already in Key Club at the time. She happily brought me to a social during Key Club Week, for “Bring a Friend to Key Club� day. Let me say, I was quite overwhelmed with how loud and spirited these high schoolers were as I was just an eighth grader at the time. Although I did not have much knowledge of why they were cheering in the beginning, at the end of the day I learned that Key Club was more than just cheering, but making a difference in our homes, schools, and communities through service! I have always had a passion for doing community service, and I knew when I entered high school, Key Club was definitely a club I just had to sign up for. Thanks, Anna!

I can definitely say with this year being my fourth and final year in Key Club, I am so lucky and grateful to have a family, an ohana, who continues to do service, become leaders, and have never ending spirit each and every day. Like many of you, I was a quiet and shy freshman coming into high school, but I have seen myself grow as a person throughout my time in Key Club. From endless service opportunities, cheering my heart out at Region Training Conference, and meeting my best friends through Key Club, I do not regret a single moment in my journey as a Key Clubber. February 2015 might have been the toughest month for me in Key Club. As a class representative on the board, I decided to run for club president for the upcoming year. What made this even tougher was that I was running against my best friend for the position. People thought this election was going to tear our friendship apart; however, today I would say our friendship has gotten even closer than ever before. I am proud to say that my best friend, Tatiana Lim, now serves as the District Technology Editor! I have learned that if you want to do something, go for it! Times may get tough, but there will always be an opportunity for you to grab onto. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for us.
