LTG Corner

We had a total of about 320 members at our October DCM. Let’s thank Clark for being such a great host. I cannot be more proud of you guys. Thanks for bringing in new members and showing them what Key Club has to offer. Let’s keep this up! We should, as individuals, engage in as many service projects as we can. We should be striving, as clubs, to make an impact in our home school, and community. We should, as a division, share ideas amongst each other and unite as a team. This time of year may be hectic and stressful for some of us, but we are still here for each other. Whether you busy working on school work or other extracurricular activities, remember to prioritize. There may be times when you feel down and inefficient, but it’s okay.. Everyone has those times. Work hard, but also find time to relax. This year may be busy for you, but try your best

Club Articles Durango HS Breast Cancer Walk There was no better way than welcoming October by raising awareness and money to fight breast cancer. This year, the American Cancer Society had the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on October 1, 2011. I had the opportunity to attend this walk and be a part of a significant organization. As a member of the American Cancer Society, I recommend everyone to attend as many walks possible, to really make an impact on other people’s lives. At the walk, the atmosphere was very festive. Many men, women, children, and even pets came out to support loved ones enduring the battle with cancer, celebrate the recovering journey of the survivors, and to commemorate those who have passed because of the disease. It was a fun, eye-opening experience! Being a part of a life-changing event made me feel valuable to my community and the world. It made me feel like I could actually make a BIG difference. With every stride, I knew I was saving a mom, an aunt, or even a grandma. I created a world with more birthdays. -

Club ClubArticles Articles Southwest CTA Las Vegas Greek Food Festival During the weekend of September 23 through September 26 Southwest CTA Key Club members had a chance to volunteer at the 39th Annual Las Vegas Greek Food Festival. The festival included: numerous food vendors, shopping booths, live entertainment such as the live band, The Olympians, and cultural performances from Hrisi Thisavri, a youth Greek folk dance of St John the Baptist and Stavrofoi, an adult Greek folk dance of St. John the Baptist, and of course, activities for the kids. At least 50 of our members volunteered for this great event, and each and every one of them had a great time doing so. One of our members, Ryan Lopez, assisted a chef in one of the vendors in making the Greek Fries. Another member, Ricardo Reyes helped out on one of the jump houses for the kids to insure kids safety, and referee a game in one of the jump houses. Other members worked the buffet line, and some maintained the cleanliness of the venue itself. After all their work was done, the volunteers were rewarded with a free dinner and enjoy the rest of the night. This event gave our members an opportunity to appreciate other cultures and gave new members an idea of giving back to the community. This was a great jump start to our Key Club year! -Jessica Lacaman Bulletin Editor

Club ClubArticles Articles Spring Valley HS Gift of Giving Hey my fellow Key Clubbers! So an interesting question came to me the other day by someone and I thought I should share it with you guys! The question was “What was your most memorable Key Club Event?” Well, my most memorable event would probably be the Child Focus sponsored event called “The Gift of Giving” which happened during the winter holidays of 2010. The Gift of Giving occurred at the Springs Preserve of Las Vegas. This event was the most memorable because this event was all about giving the gift of joy to children in foster care. I love this event the most because these foster children got to experience winter holidays just like how regular children go to do with their family. I loved seeing these children smiling, and it gave me a warm feeling of happiness seeing them happy. We basically wrapped up gifts, set up decorations, and helped these kids find their very own Christmas gifts, and that just made me very glad to see this wonderful event. What I learned from this event was the true meaning of the holidays, which was even though whatever situation you are in that may bring you down, you still deserve the best Christmas you will ever have. So that is why I loved that event, and hopefully when Child Focus has this event again, I know that I am ready to help with them with this.
