MESS

HELLO JELLIES! To start my last message of THE STING off, I would like to say thank you. Having served as a Club Bulletin Editor and Division Secretary before, I was excited to venture onto a new chapter of my Key Club journey as Lieutenant Governor. I had heard of all the learning opportunities that I would experience, but truthfully had no idea what was in store. Despite our entire term being held online and everyone having to adapt quickly, our officers and members were able to come together in a different way to bring the division we serve to new heights. Within the span of a year, we were able to break our division record of service hours by over a thousand hours, nearly triple our number of members recognized through the Member Recognition Program, have three clubs eligible for Distinguished/Diamond Distinguished Club recognition, meet our fundraising goal, and more. Considering our limitations, I could not have imagined this to be possible without everyone’s passion and dedication. While this term did provide me with the promised learning experiences, it has also taught me lessons beyond Key Club that I will carry on into my future endeavors. For example, learning how to effectively network on top of planning large-scale events that require public speaking and communicating with several people as a team are all valuable qualities that I am grateful to have learned while serving as a Lieutenant Governor. With all of that being said, I am proud to have served as Division 37 East’s Lieutenant Governor for the 2020-2021 term. Not only was I able to accomplish divisional and personal goals, but I was also able to learn from my mistakes and grow as a leader and an individual. Thank you for an unforgettable term.

NEWS EDITOR

JELLIES, Despite the hardships of the pandemic, I am grateful for you all in continuing to participate in our activities and events! This term has been nothing short of interesting, and I applaud you for being a part of our division and serving with us. It hasn’t been the easiest transition into a virtual setting, but we managed to finish the term off strong! It’s been a whole year since this pandemic began, and I am appreciative of all the good moments that have transpired. Even though I was disheartened that we couldn’t go to in-person events or see our friends, I am still happy for all the friendships I got to make with fellow jellies and being able to improve my graphic design abilities. This has definitely been a year of growth and I hope next term can bring us even more! I have been honored to serve as your Division News Editor, and I wish you all good luck in the next term! It’s been fun creating issues of THE STING and managing our production team, the Division Media Team. I loved all that I have been able to do as your DNE! As we transition into the next term, I want to remind you all to stay healthy and take care of yourselves! Thank you for an amazing term, I hope you all have enjoyed this term as much as I did, or even more. To all my seniors, I wish you well on this next chapter of your life and I hope you have taken something away from Key Club, whether that would be a special moment or a friendship. For the rest of you, I hope you continue to participate and keep the jelly spirit alive into the next term and beyond! Thank you all for such a memorable term; this was one I will never forget!

When I went to go serve food on Friday I was very excited and happy because my friends were also going to come. I convinced them both along with Julian to join key club they’ve been going to American legion to go help out. I helped by going out with a poster and let people know what we were serving. A few people came up to me for more information and loved how we were out with a poster. Yannik and Emily also helped me out with that. They were very shy and nervous at first since they didn’t know anyone but everyone was very welcoming and they warmed up to the others. We had a lot of fun all together and helped clean the tables as well and with drying the dishes. We also got to eat cupcakes and some delicious chicken. I saw everyone do their part in helping out and we all got along very well. I was also told that Dave bought me pants 🥲 they all made fun of my ripped jeans that day. My favorite line is probably “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR PANTS !?- Dave 2021” It was really funny and that was my favorite part overall.

On February 5th, 2021, we announced that we would be having a fundraiser for PTP on Twitch. This event was promoted through our Mission Hills Key Club Instagram account as well as the Division Discord. This fundraiser was on February 14th and it started at 4pm. We also decided that this event would end at 8pm, and between this time, we would be playing a series of games with the audience as well… (cont.)

Ella Mailliard, HTHNC Editor

Throughout the month of February, the High Tech High Key Club accomplished numerous service events. It was a very productive month for our club. However, an event that was definitely the highlight was put together by one of our very own members, Chloe Fermin! This event was a huge success amongst our members and all of the slots that were needed for it to be successful were filled almost immediately. She had organized for our group to contribute to the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation in Carlsbad. Those who had volunteered to be a part of this event were put in charge of planting native plants to California. Some of these plants ranged from cherry trees to black sage and they all required specific planting methods. Thankfully Chloe had come fully prepared with both knowledge about these plants and the procedures that came along with them. Although this service event didn’t encompass all of our members, we still had events that incorporated everyone. As an example, we had our first official officer elections! The High Tech Key Club had not been involved in an official election before so all of our members were excited to be involved even if they weren’t running. We had two candidates for Editor and Social Media coordinator, Ella Mailliard and Saba Honarvar, two candidates for Treasurer, Jacob Adcock and Athena Bernheim, Chloe Fermin running for Vice President, and Livia Iacobelli for president. Each candidate contributed their own unique reasons for why they would be qualified for whichever position they were after. Overall February was a great month for our club and we hope to continue this productiveness for the rest of the 2021 year!

…(cont.) For security reasons, we created a separate discord for this event and deleted it afterwards. The games we played were Jackbox, Skribbl.io, Among Us, and a Rock Paper Scissors. Some of these games were set up in a tournament style and the winner would receive prizes, like 10 dollar gift cards or they could have opted to donate to PTP. To add on, everytime we reached a goal, one of our officers did a set challenge. For example, jumping into the pool or shaving their head. Throughout the four hours of playing these games, we raised up to 550 dollars, however, we raised 600 dollars in total. Previously, one of our officers had a separate stream to raise money for PTP and they raised about 50 dollars. We added these two totals up and transferred it to our advisors.

One of my favorite moments of this term would probably be the sandwich making at interfaith. I’ve only gone two or three times but, each time was such a fun and new experience. It does start pretty early, but just knowing I get to help out my community in some way makes up for it.

My favorite moment of this term was meeting new people and going to help at Interfaith! Waking up early kinda sucks, but going to the event was amazing! Whether I was the only one or if there were others there, I always had fun and enjoyed working with others. Talking to Mr. Randy never got old and attempting to reach the goal of making the most sandwiches in the morning was great motivation (I think we got to 240 in one event). I love going to Interfaith!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT What is one of your favorite moments of this term? Jane Bounkousonh

12th

My favorite memories from this term was connection with others virtually and meeting new people. I like how during home club meetings we were able to connect with our members and make the best of the pandemic. Hearing how members enjoyed our icebreakers really warms my heart since they appreciated it!

I would say that my favorite moment of this term would be when everybody both in and out of HTHNC, came together to raise 1,409 cans of food to donate to the North County Food Bank for Thanksgiving. Our club had only done one drive and that was before the pandemic, so this one made me skeptical if we would get any turnout. HTH

(cont.) I was happily surprised to know that those fears were a distant thought when I saw the amount of turnout we were driving to our boxes. I’m just so incredibly proud of our hard work and dedication which even earned us a School Partner award from the food bank!
