Welcome back to another edition of The Sting! For the month of August, most of us will be gathering up our supplies and getting ready to head back to school. While going back to school can be dreadful, I hope you all will carry a good mindset with you and stay positive against all odds. With that being said, I hope you all will continue with your service hours for the month of August, even with all the commotion of school right around the corner. The new school year also brings plenty of new students, and I hope you’ll work toward including more of them into Key Club. I am assured you are all looking forward to Club Rush and FRS coming up this season! Returning members, take advantage of this time now to get your hours in order for Fall Rally. The new school year also brings a great time to get a feel for our division’s DCMs and RTCs. I look forward to seeing new faces in our events, and hopefully I’ll get to meet more members this season. Nonetheless, I hope you all have a service filled August and enjoy this edition of The Sting!

LETTER FROM THE LTG WHAT'S STINGIN', JELLIES? Can you believe summer vacation is almost over? I hope you've all had a relaxing break and spent some quality time with your friends and family. As some of us are preparing to head back to school, take some time to set some personal goals, treat yourself to a little back-to-school shopping, and finish those summer assignments! Make this school year start off on a great foot! As we begin the month of August, we are also heading into one of the busiest and most exciting periods throughout the term- Region Training Conference and Fall Rally Season! For those of you who've been in Key Club for a while, you know that this season means more service opportunities, more fundraising events, and of course, more members! With that being said, be sure to use this month to your advantage. Start contacting local schools to help out during registration and fall festivals. Begin contacting places to host fundraisers to raise money for your club and the Pediatric Trauma Program. Work with your officers to find ways to go all out during Club Rush and make props and trifolds! August is also a great opportunity to think of a game plan for the upcoming year. Officers, take time to figure out the Member Update Center and the dues process, update your club rosters and sign-in sheets, and plan out your first few meetings. Keep in mind that there is only a short period between Club Rush and Region Training Conference so schedule your time wisely and be sure to advertise RTC as much you can! RTC is one of the biggest training conferences we will have this term and it will allow your new members to see what Key Club is really about! (Plus, we want to bring home that spirit stick!) In aDdition, over the next few months, you will start seeing Key Club recruitment videos, cheer lists, and spirit nights from the division in preparation for Club Rush, RTC, and FRS. Make sure to stay connected with our division on social media and keep an eye out for updates! I'm so proud of everything we've already accomplished and I just know this is only the beginning. Continue to work hard but don't forget to take care of yourself. Your health is the most important! Enjoy this newsletter and make the most of your last few weeks of summer!

JUNE DCM RECAP Here, the members donated their socks and then sewed, cut, and glued different stuffed animals. The stuffed animals utilized felt, clean socks, stuffing, markers, thread and more, but was a great opportunity for our members to show off their creativity. After creating the small toys, the project products were donated to local sick children who may be feeling demoralized from their conditions. San Marcos hopes to brighten the day of the children with their stuffed animals and additionally participated in the Pies for PTP part of the meeting. Key Clubbers got to purchase whipped cream plates to pie their officers and division leadership team as a tribute to the pediatric trauma program. This effort is a part of our club's larger effort towards PTP and our fundraiser later this month. - Krista Nguyen San Marcos President

CLUB SPOLIGHT: MISSION HILLS At the Woodland Garden Maintenance, we had a total of 5 volunteers from MHHS Key Club and 4 from SMHS Key Club! During this joint event, members helped maintain the community garden and socialize with one another. Working hard in the hot sun, we were assigned to different tasks such as pulling weeds, planting, and watering.
