December: Monthly Member of the Month: N/A

Officer of the Month: Philip Gergis, Enochs This officer has been doing a terrific job leading his club. From trying to rebuild the club’s active participation at the beginning of the term to coming up with numerous fundraising events to help the club and other charities, this officer has never failed to stay positive and spirited about Key Club. He attends virtually every single service event in his club and amazingly exceeds expectations of an officer. He has gone above and beyond, which shows his true passion for Key Club.

Recognition Club of the Month: Vanguard This club is extremely active and passionate about serving the community. Just last month alone, they have achieved over 300 service hours, which is an amazing feat. They’re always so spirited and involved in local events, such as with the Society with Disabilities or with their school. I am extremely proud of what they have done and look forward to seeing what they will continue to do in the future.

Advisor of the Month: Robert Kanbara, Vanguard This advisor is very dedicated to helping his club as much as possible. He occasionally volunteers alongside his club’s members, which is way beyond the expectations of an advisor. Even with many family commitments, he still manages to make time to help out the club he advises. Even in the past, this advisor has been devoted to helping out Key Club and the community. I am grateful that the club has such a dedicated advisor.

Breakfast With

Santa Division 46 North | Page 9

Â

Alexandra Candelario, Central Catholic High Key Club This month in key club we participated in breakfast with Santa. It was a great opportunity for key club members to work with people of our community. It was fun to see the smiles of all the kid’s faces when they saw Santa. They served pancakes and fruits. It was a great experience to use all of our leadership skills and become closer with our community. The members who attended were: Christopher Salgado, Christopher Lee, Kyler Stretch, Alan Tam, Dawaiian McNeely, Mckenzie Lettice, Simi Singh, Gabby Diaz, Yeudith V, Madeline Coehlo, Mrs. V and her son Aaron.

Â

Iliana Borges, Vanguard College Prep Key Club On December 3, we helped out the Letters to Santa Charity! At this event, we shopped for kids. We were able to pick out some cute clothes for kids who aren't as fortunate as we are. Each person had a budget of $70 to spend on each kid, and I, myself, shopped for 10 kids! Everyone had lots of fun shopping around, even if it was super busy! It was a successful event, and we would love to do this again!

Philip Gergis, Enochs Key Club The Parents United Pancake Breakfast is a fundraiser held every year to raise money to provide money for children who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse. The breakfast took place downtown on November 26th from 7am to 1pm and volunteers worked in three different shifts. The event turned out to be a really fun event since not only were the tasks simple and easy but we got our own breakfast for free! Also, a lot of members attended the event so we got to talk to each other while we were working. Overall, the pancake breakfast was a fun event for everyone and I hope on doing it next year! Â

Iliana Borges, Vanguard College Prep Key Club On December 2 and 3rd, we helped the Society for Disabilities with all 3 sessions of their movie night! We got to sell raffle tickets, help collect money, and help set up/clean up. It was lots of fun seeing all of the people who helped out at this event. It was great seeing some of the kids have fun there too! The movie that they played was about skiing. It was overall, a successful event and a great turnout.

Iliana Borges, Vanguard College Prep Key Club On November 29, we helped out the Society for Disabilities at Modesto On Ice! Modesto On Ice is an ice skating rink that opens seasonally. We got to have fun skating around the coolest Place in Town and help some kids skate who've never been or couldn't because of their disabilities! It was amazing seeing the smiles on these kids' faces! We had lots of fun helping these amazing little kids skate and would definitely do it again!

Vivian Tran, Gregori Key Club

On December 17th, Gregori High Key Club along with other clubs in the division partook in a service event called Salvation Army: Food and Gift Distribution. The food and gift distribution was provided to many families who were in need of these necessities for the holidays. Members helped push grocery carts full of food and held a bag of toys for the families. We then helped load them into their car. It was overall a great event, in which it brought smiles to many of the families faces. I would recommend for anyone who has not attended this event to attend next year!

Interested

In

DCON?

Interested in DCON? What is District Convention, you ask? This is the event of the Key Club year where we celebrate members for their achievements in the past year, learn about how to conduct ourselves in Key Club as members and officers, and meet other Key Clubbers from all over the California-Nevada-Hawaii District! If you attend DCON, you will have a chance to attend workshops to learn more about Key Club and/or leadership, dance the night away at Governor's Ball (most people go for this), cheer your heart out at general sessions, and see if your club and/or yourself was recognized this year for your achievements! In addition, you might get the opportunity to vote for next year's District Executives (Governor, Secretary, Treasurer) and other Key Club policy amendments. Where: Anaheim, CA When: April 6-9, 2017 Estimated Cost: between $300-$500 (depending on the number of attendees and mode of transportation) If you are attending, start fundraising ASAP to lower costs! January is Community Outreach! Food Banks and shelters are always in need of assistance. Reach out to a food bank or shelter in your community/local provider to set up a day where you can assist them!

Division 46 North | Page 35

We tend to take things we have for granted. This month, reach out to your local city to set up volunteer events. Clubs can help repaint curbs, cleaning traffic signs, beautification projects such as parks, etc. Â

Set up a day when you and your club can assist the elderly at retirement homes! Many of these elderly would love to have you socializing with them from time to time. Set up games such as Bingo Night, board games or any entertainment you can think of!

Host a yard sale! Advertise this through fliers. Ask students, teachers, neighbors to donate to the yard sale. Any leftover items can be donated to local charities. Â

Bingo Night! Host a bingo night for families. You can charge them a small admission fee or ask for donations and sell snacks throughout the games. The prizes can be donated from organizations.

Team up with a local bakery store to ask if you can host a fundraiser towards a cause. Advertise, advertise, advertise! Make sure to have a donation jar available to those who want to donate.
