HELLO 2018! 3

3

LETTER FROM THE LTG Hey Red Pandas! Every month it seems like I keep repeating the same thing, but each time you all make me prouder by every passing day! As of now, our division has a total of 6,859 service hours and have raised $3,000 for charity. WOW. For those of you who don't know, this is MUCH more than the average division has as of now currently, and considering the fact that we have less members shows how much each and every one of you have been working for our division. Also, because of this I decided to raise our original goals of 9,000 hours and $5,000 for charity to 11,000 hours and $5,500 for charity because I know for a FACT that you are all capable of achieving this. Best part is that if the division reaches these goals by April, I will go an entire DCM/event getting pied consecutively for free, and I have to continue running the event without reacting. I know how much you all love seeing me in pain, so this is your chance! But in all seriousness, you have all made me the proudest LTG in this district. I can't remember how many times I've ended up talking about how happy and impressed I am to see you all make so much progress, and have other district officers and advisors congratulate D46N for the achievements we've made. I genuinely am so happy to serve you all and truly appreciate everything you've done. I know we will all end this term by putting all of our remaining effort into these last four months, and I can't wait to see how you surprise me yet again!

LETTER FROM THE DNE Hello hello hello Red Pandas! Happy New Year! As we leave 2017 behind and say hello to 2018, we are presented with choices and opportunities. What are you going to do differently this year? Do you have any resolutions? What are you looking forward to this year? How are you going to make the world a better place this year? Take 2018 as a chance to reinvent yourself and grow as a person. But remember: it is never too late to change, and grow, and you don’t need a new year or a reason or excuse to better yourself. Improvement, progress, and knowledge are things to work towards all year. It’s always time to be a better you. This year, don’t forget to laugh more, smile more, dance more, love more, learn more, and serve more. Self-improvement comes in many forms. I hope this year is filled with friendship, joy, family, love, success, and peace for all of us. However: life does happen, and with new beginnings also come new hardships. So I also hope this year we have the strength, resilience, and the support system to overcome whatever may cross our path. I just hope things get better this year, and if they don’t that things will be better soon. Cheers to a new year, see you in February, D46N!

CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS PARADE

Every year, our division volunteers at the annual Celebration of Lights Parade held in downtown Modesto, in which people from all over the community decorate floats and parade through the streets. This year, our volunteers manned barricades and patrolled streets. Luckily, however, the barricades were a perfect spot to enjoy watching the parade, and all it’s beautiful lights, and was a wonderful reminder of the community we serve.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

At Breakfast with Santa, our volunteers went to the Modesto Senior Citizens Center and helped with Kiwanis’s Breakfast with Santa Fundraiser. At this event, members volunteered by organizing plates, serving as waiters/busboys, and helping children create crafts in the children’s area. This event was incredibly festive with a lot of great energy, and there was so much to do. The member turnout was incredible, and their enthusiasm during this event was at an all time high. Great job, Key Clubbers, this event was quite the success. 10

Crash Course: Conclave WHAT IS CONCLAVE? Conclave is the annual DCM in which the next Lieutenant Governor is elected for the next term. At Conclave, the first hour or so, a normal DCM is run. However, afterwards begin the conclave process. Those running for LTG will present speeches, and hold a caucus session. After all the speeches and caucuses have been held, two delegates from every club conduct a vote. If there are multiple candidates, this vote will narrow down the candidates. However, if only two are running, the candidate with the most votes becomes the new Lieutenant Governor elect for the next term.

WHAT’S A CAUCUS SESSION? A caucus session occurs after a candidate has said their speech and presented their literature, and it’s a time where delegates and other can ask a candidate questions. These may be questions regarding their vision, their personal qualifications, their knowledge of Key Club, etc. However, only relevant questions may be asked, and the current LTG has the right to deny any inappropriate or targeted questions.

WHAT ARE DELEGATES AND HOW CAN I BECOME ONE? Delegates are those in charge of voting/electing a candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Each club gets 2 delegates in order to establish a fair playing field. Delegates must be dues paid members, not officers. IF you are interested in being a delegate in the next conclave, consult your president as soon as possible in order to register. 14

LAST YEAR’S CONCLAVE WITH OUR VERY OWN PHILIP GERGIS!

Spotlight on Service:

Children’s Miracle Network Children’s Miracle Network, often abbreviated to CMN, is one of Key Club International’s preferred charities, and is focused around raising money that is donated to over 170 hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. The money raised toward CMN goes to funding up-todate medical equipment, critical treatments, healthcare services, and charitable care. Even better, the funds tend to stay local in order to help children in our very own communities. So, please consider spreading some compassion to a child and family in need by organizing an event that raises money for such a vital cause.
