February: Monthly Member of the Month: Jeffrey Hyungh, Peter Johansen This member did awesome in participating in Key Club for the last few months. He had joined recently, but he already accumulated over 30 service hours! For the month of January alone, he was able to serve the community for 10.5 hours already! He's often the representative for the club at events, and even though he's a newer member, he strives to learn more about Key Club and find out how to be the best that he can be. I am proud of how far he has come as a member! *Accepted by Peter Johansen President, Jose

Officer of the Month: Jorgia Young, Enochs This officer has kept up her duties as editor every month, and she is one of the only editors that continuously send in club newsletters. I am very glad that she has battled through the year and resisted procrastination and laziness to get the club newsletter turned in every month. Not only are her newsletters turned in on time, they follow a neat and organized format and are very easy to read! I am proud of her hard work and hopes she keeps it up! *Accepted by Enochs President, Philip

Recognition Club of the Month: Peter Johansen This club only has 17 dues-paid members, but they fulfilled a whopping 251.5 service hours in the month of January alone, which is an average of 14.79 hours per member! Even though the service events around town have been lower than usual for many clubs, this club doesn't fail to serve the community well. I am always in awe at the amount of hours many members serve each week, and hope they will keep up the work for years to come!

Advisor of the Month: Nanci Tougaw, Riverbank This Kiwanis Advisor is extremely hands-on in helping to improve the Key Club she takes part in. Whenever members need rides to certain events, she is always up to providing rides to and from the events. She keeps the Key Club in the loop of Kiwanis-related events by updating members on events hosted the Kiwanis she is a part of, such as meetings or festivals. Also, she keeps up with the Key Club's upcoming events and reminds members about them to make sure that they attend if they've committed to them. I am extremely grateful for her help, not only in the club that she helps out, but also in the division throughout the term.

Hallway Decorating

Philip Gergis | Enochs High Key Club Every year, Enochs High School decorates their hallways to prepare for the winter formal spirit week. Our club saw this as a great opportunity to not only serve our school, but to also interact more with our school’s leadership! The event took place on February 16th and we had a total of 15 members attend. Volunteers, who attended the event helped by hanging up wallpaper, painting, and creating cardboard decorations. The event turned out to be a success since we were not only able to finish on time, but it proved to be one of our most fun events. Overall, decorating the school hallways with leadership was one of our most popular and enjoyable service projects! Â

Vivian Tran | Gregori High Key Club The Superhero 5K/10k run/ walk was held on Saturday, February 11th from 8 to 11 AM at East La Loma Park. At this event, runners who participated dressed up as superheroes. Many members participated in helping passing out medals, water bottles, and snacks after the runners ran. While the runners ran, the members cheered them on with many “Good Jobs” and chants such as the “G-Double-O-D J-O-B, Good Job” cheer we do for Key Club. We walked out to where the race started to about half a mile out to encourage any runners who passed by. It was an amazing experience to be able to see the Key Club members so enthusiastic and cheerful as runners passed by. We cheered on from the very first runner who finished to the very last runner. It was great being able to see the runners smile as we cheered them on. Some members stayed by the picnic tables to pass out crayons, color pages and stickers to the little kids after their fun run. Seeing the Key Club members being inclusive by willing to work and interact with many of the little kids and runners was incredible. These Key Club members are the superheroes in this community.

Alexandra Candelario | Central Catholic This month we only participated in one event, which was our bake sale on the 27th. Our bake sale was not as big as usual but we managed to get a few people to bring in baked goodies. Four people volunteered during break to sell and by lunch we were all sold out. Though our bake sale was small we managed to be successful in raising money for our Key Club. This was a volunteer opportunity that gave hours to those who worked the bake sale and those who brought baked goods.

March is March of dimes! “Due to the efforts of the March of Dimes, the rate of premature birth has declined to about 9.6 percent today! With the organizations efforts, thousands of babies have been saved from being born too soon. It also has reduced excess health care cost, saving the nation billions of dollars. Despite this progress, about 380,000 babies continue to be born prematurely every year.”

Division 46 North | Page 23

“Contact your local mall or public park services to see if you can clean out their fountains for donations! “

“Look on the March of Dimes Website for local walks where you can participate in!” www.walk.marchofdimes.org

“You will need plenty of volunteers, supplies and a large enough space to host your car wash. Schools are popular locations for these events and you may be able to get students involved as well. Car washes should be free, but people can make a donation to March of Dimes.”

“Compete against other departments at work, at classes, or at school to see who can collect the most coins in terms of weight. Have a competition to guess the weight of the winning container of coins before the final weigh in.”

“Hold a bake, craft, or rummage sale at your work, school, place of worship, or community center. Sell your second hand items and delicious baked goods at cheap prices to support your fundraising efforts.”

“Talk about a charity and raise a physical Mile of Dimes!”
