What is PTP? Article by Jason Leung The Pediatric Trauma Program is dedicated to changing children’s lives. Pediatric Trauma is one of the leading cause of death and injury among children that are 14 or under in the US. Data shows that 90% of these deaths/injuries can be prevented through the use of three things: education, awareness, and regulation. The following is an excerpt from a brochure: “There is a widespread belief that injuries are the result of “accidents.” Referring to a car crash as an ʺaccidentʺ contributes to the perception that the crash cannot be prevented; when, in fact, very few crashes occur because of uncontrollable circumstances. “ Each year, 9,000 U.S. families lose a child because of a preventable injury. The Pediatric Trauma Program actively does many community outreach programs to help spread the awareness of Pediatric Trauma and educate everyone. They also partner with local hospitals to help children who have suffered from Pediatric Trauma by providing funding to train pediatric doctors and nurses, they purchase pediatric medical equipment that is needed, and they create or expand community outreach programs. Some other quick facts about the Pediatric Trauma Program are:

What is ELIMINATE?
Article written by Alexis De La Torre When somebody mentions something about the Eliminate Project, does it occur to you how much of importance it is worth? Many know what it is trying to eliminate but have not been taught yet on what the Eliminate Project does and how it makes a difference in today’s world. How many people knew that 49,000 babies and a significant amount of women are attacked by this deadly disease? The effects of the disease are scary and sad, and we see tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch which was never intended for the arrival of a newborn child. But some do not even understand what we mean when we mention the Eliminate Project. Some our curious what is our project really all about? Well, in many poor countries, delivering a baby can happen in unhygienic circumstances, putting mothers and babies in a trap of life-threatening infections. World Health Organization has informed us that maternal and neonatal tetanus or, also known as MNT, have been among the most common lethal consequences of unclean deliveries and umbilical cord care practices. Maternal and neonatal tetanus kills one baby every eleven minutes and can kill mothers too. Sadly, there is only a slight chance of survival. These deaths are heartbreaking for every family to have to lose a loved one in this horrific disease at a time that should be the most joyous of celebrations. Some sadly believe hope will never be found but with strong minds and powerful help the Division goal of Project Eliminate is to | bePage able to8eliminate 46N Newsletter
Some sadly believe hope will never be found but with strong minds and powerful help the goal of Project Eliminate is to be able to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This project is very important and can help save millions of lives. I believe if our whole community worked together we can help C save more than we can imagine. My personal goal is to help others understand the huge impact they can make by just saving one life. I hope to encourage others to follow in depth with this project making not just our community a safer place but the world around us. How can this big, outrageous disease be tackled? Well, to our advantage, maternal and neonatal tetanus is highly preventable. Hooray! There is our hope and should be our drive to help get the word out about this faster and effectively! As Kiwanis and UNICEF formally informs us that just three doses of a 60cent immunization can protect mothers, who pass this immunity to their future children. More than 10 million mothers and children must be immunized. Requiring vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff members and much more. This will approximately take us $110 million US dollars. But with everyone’s help we will be able to raise the money in no time! Sounds like a plan but why should I help? Why should I need to focus on this issue so crucially? Do you believe it to be right that innocent babies and their mothers should have to suffer and die because of this disease and your knowledge that you could have made a difference in their future? This can be an amazing opportunity to help others outside of your community and be able to reach your hand out to the most neglected mothers and their children. You may not understand your effects now but soon you will see the world slowly becoming a brighter place because of you. What a joy, what an honor to know that you have helped cause another thriving, healthy generation of mankind. You surely will be delighted in yourself and others will be even more delighted because of you making a big difference in their lives. You can truly be amazing by helping us eliMiNaTe and give the joy of life to a family who might have been waiting impatiently for quite some time.

Beyer’s Kiss a Senior Goodbye Article written by Sydne Langpap
For Eliminate Week, our club decided to do a fundraiser for the Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Project helps eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus from women and their children. We chose Kiss A Senior Goodbye not only because we thought it would be fun, but also we wanted to show our appreciation for our seniors. These are the last couple of months they will be with us, as they will be going off to college and starting a whole new chapter in their life! We started on planning on Sunday, April 26th and we officially started taking orders on Wednesday, April 29th. We decided that it would be $3 for 5 Hershey Kisses or $6 for 12 Hershey Kisses. All bags would have a bag with a ribbon tied and also a label that said who it was “to” and from”, there was also a specialized message from the sender to the recipient. This fundraiser was only made possible with the help of everyone who volunteered to help! Broneka Kovarkez, Sydne Langpap (myself), Jason Leung, Ryan Lewis, and Nour Poles were in charge of going to many different stores to check prices and find out which prices were the most affordable. Jasmine Yuen then stepped up to put together the bags…amidst AP testing week, and she did a GREAT JOB! Orders were taken until Monday May 4th at 10 pm and distributed on Wednesday, May 6th at the club meeting. We had a total of 26 orders and we made $98! The seniors responded to this with very positive feedback. I hope that we continue to do this project as it was a very creative and sentimental way to say goodbye to some really great seniors (and great Key Clubbers)!

Spirit Coordinator
Justin Yang - Gregori Key Club Hello D46N, I'm Justin Yang, one of your two division spirit directors. I've applied for spirit director because I want to enhance the way that our division shows its spirit. As you know, there are always some people sitting on the sidelines of each DCM, rally, event etc.t really putting themselves out there. I've decided I wanted to change that and try to raise as much morale for our division as possible by converting "Don't-ers" into "Do-ers. Usually, we have about 80% of the work at key club being done by 20% of the people. I feel as if this difference in the effort/work put into our events and such needs to be changed, dramatically. Key club is something that I am beginning to take very seriously, meaning I would like full participation from our members to make us look more spirited than other, larger, divisions(*Cough* Grizzlies). This year at fall rally, lets try to go for our SECOND consecutive spirit stick in a row by showing as much spirit as possible. I'm hoping to see everyone being able to balance out the "work" and "fun" parts of key club this year. I, as well as the other spirit director, hope to change this year to make it the biggest, most spirited year ever :).
