Message From the LTG 15’-16’ D46N Lieutenant Governor Vanessa Banh Hello Red Pandas!
I can’t believe June already passed just like that in a flash. I hope you are having a redpandastic beginning of your summer. Are you spending your free time wisely – going on vacation, resting, completing that summer homework, and going to service events?
Don’t forget to attend the great events we have over the summer, such as the PTP Fundraisers, as all the funds are going towards a great cause: the Pediatric Trauma Program! All the funds will be for research, raising awareness of Pediatric Trauma, the training of doctors and nurses to learn more about Pediatric Trauma and more. The Midnight Bowl was a success, and I hope we can all contribute and make the Division Yard Sale an even greater success!
Even though we are on summer vacation right now, there is still need for help in our community so if you don’t have any plans, please do come out and serve! Thank you all for being such amazing individuals and being yourselves. Each and every one of you have already made a difference in your home, school and community. Thank you for all that you do!
- D46N Lt. Governor Vanessa Banh

June Recognition
Member of the month Christine To, Gregori Key Club Christine has been to a majority of the Key Club meetings held in the month of May and has attended five out of the eight events Gregori had last month. Just in the past month alone she has obtained 18.75 service hours. She is a hard worker who completes the job assigned to her fully at service events and is one of the few who has taken on multiple shifts in several events and stayed longer than most who have attended.
Advisor of the month Brent Burnside, Enochs Key Club Brent Burnside is always doing his best to help with the club he serves. He assisted Enochs in the "Ride for Mom" event and even gave one of the members a ride to and from certain locations. When the officers are in need of help, they can always go to him for some assistance. He is always friendly, helpful, and is a pleasure to work with.

Officer of the month Kyle Amaral, Beyer Key Club
Accepted by Joel Lima on the behalf of Kyle Amaral
Kyle has attended 100% of the general meetings this school year and every board meeting since his election. He takes excellent minutes, is very organized and has a great attitude! Kyle helped tremendously in helping to prep for the Key Club Olympics that Beyer put on, from attending planning meetings, buying supplies, helping to set up, and working the event. Kyle also has turned in every MRF so far on time, and is always actively updating the Service Record, Member Recognition Program, and Club Directory tabs. Beyer would not be the same without the hard work and dedication that Kyle contributes to their club!
Club of the Month Beyer Key Club Beyer has had some spectacular events in the month of May that showed their commitment and their desire to serve the community. The club contributed to the Miracle Mile of Quarters raising a total of $30 and also had many other fundraisers for the month of May. They started the first Key Club Olympics, which was a fundraiser for their club funds, and 25% would be donated to Camp Taylor. Beyer is also the only club that participated in the Eliminate Week, in which they raised $98 towards Eliminate with their “Kiss the Senior Goodbye Fundraiser. They also have excellent communication between the officers, members, advisors and the LTG. Overall they had an impressive amount of 282 service hours in the past month!

The Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast was held on Sunday, May 31st, at the Seasons. Pre-order tickets were sold for $8 each. The purpose of the pancake breakfast was to raise funds for Kiwanis, in which would be used for key club scholarships.
Outside the building was a nicely put together yard sale by Kiwanian Erika Townsend. All items that were put to sale were donated from the homes of the kiwanians. On display were many hats, frames, books, exercise equipment, holiday and glass decorations, movies, music tapes and records, and kids’ toys.
Inside the building was the Kiwanis breakfast. The food was served within the kitchen. The full plate being served was eggs, ham, and pancakes. Beyer, Downey, Gregori, Johansen, and Modesto key clubbers helped clear tables and serve water or coffee to all guests. These hardworking key clubbers accumulated a total of 77.25 hours.

The American Graffiti Festival was held on the 13th and 14th of June. The annual festival was held at the Modesto Municipal Golf Course this year. Some volunteers helped work at the Kiwanis Booth by selling drinks to guests attending the festival on those hot June days.
Key Clubbers from Grace Davis, Central Catholic, and Enochs sold shirts at the event in order to raise funds for their club.

In the month of May, Enochs Key Club volunteered at the annual Ride for Mom on May 9th. At this event, we assisted the hosts of the event with tasks such as setting up tables, bringing out snacks for bike riders, and providing moral support. We also helped clean up after the event was over. This event was a great way for the volunteers to learn about the hobby of bike riding. Enochs has volunteered for Ride for Mom in past years and we plan to continue to do so in the future.

On May 14, a few Key Clubbers offered to help at a recycling event. The recycling event was in Del Rio at a golf tournament. The organizers of the event collected recyclables, such as bottles and cans, during the golf tournament. At this event, volunteers helped recycle and sort cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles. Four members from Gregori attended the recycling event in Del Rio. During this event, members endured some chilly weather and a little rain. The organizers of the event greatly appreciated the help of the Key Clubbers. Volunteers collect the cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles in blue recycling bins during the golf tournament in Del Rio.

Waleed Khan- Modesto Key Club Well to be honest I don’t really know how well we do in terms of fundraisers as I don’t have much experience in that area. But I think it would be reasonable for each club to raise money based on how many members they have such as an amount like $5 or $10 per member. So for a bigger club like Modesto or Gregori, more money would have to be raised while in a smaller club like Vanguard the demand would be less. I was thinking that raising $500 per month would be a reasonable goal for some of the bigger club and having each member of the club have at least 5 key club hours per month. This would be easy I think because if you go to 4 thirty minute weekly meetings, that’s 2 hours, each DCM is 2 hours, and so it would be easy to spend at least 5 hours on Key Club every month. This would make everyone have at least 60 hours of key club a year and at least $60 a year in fundraising if we go by the per member system of values and I think this sounds reasonable. We could set in prizes or level accomplishments for like 60 level, 80 level, 100 level (which already has one), etc. We could perhaps also have the ranking system to show people and clubs how well they’re doing. Also I’d like to have more interaction between members from other schools through games and service in DCMS and projects.
Executive Assistant
Vivian Tran – Gregori Key Club Inclusiveness: One of our Key Club core values is known as Inclusiveness. Inclusiveness means a sense of belonging. As we have seen in many service events and division events, there have been many cliques and groups formed within each school, not so inclusive right? This year I want our Division to become more like In ONE. order for the to stop forming, we need to make become more like ONE. order In for the cliques/groups cliques/groups to stop forming, need to make themembers, as you can say. However, the service/division events morewe “welcoming” to the service/division more “welcoming” to more the welcoming, the members should in order for theseevents service/division events to feel members, as each you can say.InHowever, orderthis forhappen, these get to know other. order to in make we should spread the members service/division events to feel more welcoming, the out from each club and group them up with other members they have not met yet. As members should get to know each other. In order to Newsletter make this happen, Division we should 46N spread the members | Page 15
out from each club and group them up with other members they have not met yet. As far as I know, most of the members have not familiarized themselves with other members. e.g.) During DCM’s, we could number members off as they come in and group them up. By doing this, this will “force” them to talk to other members and possibly even start a friendship. We can also play more icebreakers that require them to get to know another person, such as Bang, or who can name the most members in the room; the one who names the most can get a prize? At this next DCM, we can take a poll of how many members do each member know? This will not only raise the percentages of members attending events, but also allow the members to feel like they belong, inclusiveness. Fundraising: Our goal is to reach $500 for PTP by October 24th, which is Fall Rally 2015. I believe that we can actually exceed this goal with the fundraisers we have such as Midnight Bowl, Division Yard Sale, Car Smash, and Pie-for-PTP. My goal for the division is to exceed the minimum goal of $500 by at least 20% (total of $600). If we are able to get at least 80 people to attend this upcoming Midnight Bowl, there’s no doubt that we’ll exceed our goal. We should have more fundraisers that is for more non-key club members, such as the Midnight Bowl; when you are restricted to only key club members, there’s a smaller chance of reaching the goal we had in mind. By having it open to non-key club members, the community can also e.g.) In order to have a good fundraiser, you should have an effective way of promoting the cause of fundraising. Promoting fundraisers on social media sites is a great way to spread the word. Each club should come up with what fundraiser they have in mind for PTP or Eliminate, or for their club. Hosting DCM’s can be tough and requires some money to get it done, with the purchase of food and possibly decorations for a theme. It would be SMART to fundraise throughout the entire year. It doesn’t have to be big fundraisers, it can also be small ones. Service/Awards:
Service is the main part of being a part of Key Club. Throughout this term, I want to set a goal for each member that is paid to have a minimum amount 20 service hours by the end my term. It seems achievable right? By just attending the majority of DCM’s and at least one
Division 46N Newsletter | Page 16
at least one service event a month, you will be able to exceed this amount. Awards. This past year, there were very few members who applied for awards. I hope to see more members apply for awards this year and possibly even see these members go on stage at DCON this year! We can make this happen by having members and officers keep in track with their hours more frequently than usual. Members can attend more events and earn awards from the “Member Recognition Program” also known as MRP. We can remind the officers to keep all of their paperwork, such as meeting papers, training papers, etc. An officer is also recommended to have a binder; this will become useful when they apply for awards at the end of the year such as ‘Distinguished’ or ‘Outstanding.”
Spirit:
Our division is known to be one of the smallest divisions when attending events like Fall Rally and District Convention. However, we won the spirit stick last year! I would like to have our division win it again this year! Last year, our spirit gear was not as coordinated as ONE as other divisions. I want this to change. For our Fall Rally preps this year, instead of learning cheers and playing icebreakers for two hours, I would like to have our division to make spirit items together, such as tutus, posters, and possibly even a stick with our e division looking more like ONE, we’ll feel more pumped up to cheer during the sessions. I also would like more members to attend Fall Rally and District Convention this year. The trips can be a bit pricey, but by encouraging clubs to fundraise earlier in advance, the trips can be made possible.

Pediatric Program Coordinator
Jason Leung - Beyer Key Club As PTP Coordinator I will promote Pediatric Trauma to all of the members in promoting Pediatric Trauma. I feel as though not many Key Clubbers understand exactly what the Pediatric Trauma Program does and I will change that by actively promoting it and telling people about it! I also will work my hardest to help organize fundraisers for PTP! I have MANY ideas for fundraisers. A few ideas I have for fundraisers are Rockin Jump, Chicken Barn, Carl’s Junior, Applebee’s, Krispy Kreme, Chipotle, and Oodles. I have many connections at Rockin Jump so I would be able to arrange something easily and we could easily get a lot of money from them for PTP if we promote well. I have heard from close friends that have done fundraisers at Chicken Barn, Carl’s Junior, and Krispy Kreme that have said they are extremely easy to work with and I could easily ask them for help on how to get a fundraiser like that setup. Also I have heard that Chipotle does really good fundraisers, we get 50% of our profits back! I would be very willing to help get that setup and promote it! I have worked with the owner of Oodles before on another fundraiser and she was extremely satisfied with what I did to set everything up and she has agreed to help me do a fundraiser in the future. I hope to not only help the club I serve but help the LTG in reaching her goal of fundraising for PTP. I would also like to increase member attendance at PTP events and I would do that by communicating with other Key Clubbers and actively thanking them for all of the work that they are doing! I also will be helping in any way that I need to, in order to help promote the Midnight Bowling fundraiser for PTP that will be happening this summer. Another thing I am really interested in, in, is attending one of the children’s hospitals that the PTP has partnered with. I believe the closest one is Madera. The Key Clubbers in our division put so much effort into fundraising for PTP that I believe they should see exactly what all of this money is used for. I know that if we visited there, we would all feel impacted in a positive way to do even more for PTP! It is my personal goal to educate all of the members of D46N and tell them exactly what it is that PTP does. I could do this at any PTP event or fundraiser and do a quick presentation on it and also give out
information on how close we are to the goals the LTG has for us.
Division 46N Newsletter | Page 18
Eliminate Project Coordinator Alexis De la Torre – Beyer Key Club Increase in donations by about 10-15% Increase in publicity by adding more posters/ flyers, newspaper articles Increase in activities and attendance by 10% Instead of having just schools involved, we can include grocery stores, popular hang-out places, etc. To include everyone in the community. This benefits our publicity and activity attendance goals
Newsletter Editor
Jasmine Yuen – Beyer Key Club As Division Newsletter editor, my goal is to have every club participating in the newsletter. My goal for the year is to have at least one of the monthly newsletters to have a contribution from every club within D46N, whether the contribution is an article or visual for a future event or a past one. In order to achieve this goal, I will continuously encourage presidents to tell their clubs about the newsletter, as well as encouraging D46N readers to send in articles/ visuals.
My second goal is to have an article written by someone who is a member and not an officer. Again, I believe this could be achieved by encouraging presidents to informing their members about the newsletter and telling the members that their participation would be greatly appreciated.
In addition, I would like all ten clubs send to have their newsletters turned in on time, as well as their articles and visuals! In order to achieve this goal, I will try to enforce deadlines, by reminding presidents at the beginning of each month when everything is due.
Division 46N Newsletter | Page 19
Spirit Coordinator
Justin Yang - Gregori Key Club For the key club year of 2015-2016, I have a couple of goals that I think would be SMART: One goal would be to get more members at every event and attempt to break up or divide the cliques that exist within the key club circle. I want everyone to get to know each other decently and for all the members to feel comfortable around each other, no matter how silly they feel doing our icebreakers or games. Getting members to go to events has definitely been difficult and I feel as if we should attempt to personally address all members for every event as an attempt to increase participation as a whole.
Spirit Coordinator
Zoe Huerta – Beyer Key Club 1. Keep people out of their own groups and have them converse with other people 2. To have a majority enjoy the spirit wear 3. Win the spirit stick again at Fall Rally!!! 4. To come up with some creative new cheers.

Service Expo Coordinator
Cameron Mckoy - Vanguard 1. Get more members at each service event
2. Increase Fall Rally Turnout
Member Recognition Chair
Crystal Cheng – Gregori Key Club 1. As Member Recognition Chair, I am determined to spread news to the division of what exactly the Member Recognition Program is, how it works, and what work it entails.
2. I am determined to encourage all members to apply for awards of the Member Recognition Program at the end of the year to reward their hard work they have achieved in the past year.
3. I will help any member interested in applying for any award in the Member Recognition Program to the best of my abilities.
