Message From the Table of Contents LTG 15’-16’ D46N Lieutenant Governor Vanessa Banh Hello Division 46N Ohana!

Can you believe that we are already in August? This summer has gone by extremely fast, and I hope all of you got enough rest before school starts again. I hope that you are all ready for school, with your new schedule in hand, as well as your new backpack and school supplies.

I am sure that a majority of you are not excited to go back to school, but the bright side is that the beginning of the school year is the best opportunity to get new member to join and also to start your club anew. Remember to promote and advertise Key Club well as soon as clubs start having their first meetings again! Also utilize Club Day/ Rush to promote Key Club and have incentives for members at the first few meetings so they are willing to stay.

Your first meetings should be very new-member friendly and informative yet still entertaining for members. Many of them will not know what Key Club does, and they will still think that we make keys by the end of the meeting. You can give lots of information about the Service Projects we do, including the Major Emphasis Projects and also advertise the District Events such as Fall Rally and DCON. Remember that

and also advertise the District Events such as Fall Rally and DCON. Remember that this is your opportunity to help your club grow, and do not forget about our core values: Caring, Inclusiveness, Leadership and Character Building! Make sure member feel welcomed and make the environment warm and friendly so they will want to come back at the meeting.

I wish you all good luck for the new school year with your academics, sports, and Key Club! -Lt. Governor, Vanessa Banh

He helped out at the Kiwanis Takeover which was an event mainly for the club officers. He also attended the officers meeting, June DCM, and Midnight Bowl-A-Thon. He has shown his dedication to Key Club and has been a great help to both the club and the community.

Lisa has put hard work into every key club event she participates in. She has accumulated almost 20 hours of service just this past month. She has also gone above and beyond by attending the monthly DCM as well as two of the three key club events.

Marty Villa has been a vital help to Grace Davis Key Club since the term started. He has been helping the President contact their Principal and Activities Director about being able to have their Eliminate Project Fundraiser on Campus. Mr. Villa also worked with their Key Club at the American Graffiti Festival and make sure they had enough water and food as they worked at the event. Knowing that he cannot make it to the next DCM, he made sure to ask another advisor to be present at the DCM in his place.

Central Catholic has received 99 hours of service for the month of June. They were very dedicated to serve the community and had many members attend the service events the club had. They also hosted the DCM in June and had their PTP Club Fundraiser held at the DCM, which was a Silent Auction, and raised a total of $89.50 towards PTP. Everyone could tell that they put a lot of work and effort into making it successful.

Experience Namibia. A Kiwanis group just returned from Namibia—one of 36 countries to successfully eliminate MNT. Show their photos to spark generosity.

Make fundraising fun. Take fundraising outdoors with one of these new ideas. Don’t forget to tell us about your ideas and share photos on Facebook or Twitter.

Why ELIMINATE?

By eliminating maternal/ neonatal tetanus we will help lower the number of 49,000 babies and women that are killed each year by this disease. This disease is contracted when tetanus spores within soil come in contact with open cuts during child-birth. This disease can be eliminated with three doses of a 60 cent immunization, which adds up to only $1.80. All it takes is $1.80 to eliminate this disease from a mother and her child, therefore saving their lives. Although the solution is easy, this disease still strikes mothers and their babies in 22 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. By working together to raise funds, we can eliminate this horrible disease. .

“1-2-3-4, let’s kick tetanus out the door, 5-6-7-8, together let’s eliminate!”

Major Emphasis: "Children: Their Future, Our Focus." Major Emphasis focuses on finding ways to help children improve their lives. Any service Project that focuses on children is a Major Emphasis Project. So, every time we are getting involved with a project such as Pediatric Trauma Program, which is to raise funds to decrease the number of injuries and deaths in children due to Pediatric Trauma, the Eliminate Project, whose goal is to eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the planet, March of Dimes, in which its mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality and many more, we are participating in a Major Emphasis Project. Key Clubbers have been challenged by Key Club International to focus on making a major international impact since 1946, and this project is still going strong today. So each and every one of you who are in the Kiwanis Family must do your part in serving the Children of the Future and create that impact on society. Hello Red Pandas! It is almost that time of year to recruit and for all of us to welcome new members with open arms! I hope to see new faces for our visuals. Speaking of visuals, I would like if all the clubs could form a photography committee! The committee can be of 3-5 people who will attend events and take pictures.

I hope you have a great start to the new school year!
