Harry’s handwriting was so bad it could have given a drunken spider with 5 legs a run for its money! Sound familiar? Is it bad eye/ hand coordination or can it mask another problem? Harry had been struggling with English throughout junior school years but managed to disguise his weaknesses through coping mechanisms such as bad handwriting, help from friends, answering comprehension questions by quoting chunks of the text and hoping for the best! Now in year 10 he was predicted a grade E in English, despite his ability in reading. He had good ideas but found it really difficult to get them down on paper and also being weak in spelling and punctuation made it all worse. Harry really didn’t know where to start and any reference to different writing ‘styles’ for GCSE coursework left him floundering. He was beginning to write himself off for a decent GCSE grade in English, which we all know is a gateway to so many career options. Luckily Jo knew where to start! She designed an individual learning plan covering spelling, punctuation and handwriting. As his confidence in these basics grew so did his ability to tackle descriptive and persuasive pieces. In the security of Kip he took on more diverse work and his confidence increased as a result. He could tackle a variety of GCSE questions and after a couple of months he got positive feedback ,not just from his English teacher, but also his History and Geography teachers too. They had also noticed an improvement in his essay writing. What a bonus!

So how is Harry doing now? He has just had his latest English GCSE controlled assessment and the result? A magnificent B! So another triumph for a Kip student and a well-deserved cup of tea for Jo!! It is all in a day’s work for the tutors at Kip, but it makes a massive difference in the future lives of their students. Suddenly further education and career choices become a real possibility. How high will Harry fly now we wonder!!

The Benefits of Thai Yoga Massage for Arthritis Arthritis affects 1 in 5 adults in the UK. That's over 10 million people. There are two main types of Arthritis: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease and the most common form of arthritis. Causes are not well understood but it can be the result of general wear and tear and affects the bones and the cartilage. Being overweight also puts a huge strain on the knees and hip joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that is partly the result of hormone overproduction in response to stress. The immune system does not work properly and attacks the joints. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s possibly because of the close relationship between stress and its effect on the immune system. Both forms of arthritis are categorised by inflammation in the joints, which is usually accompanied by limited motion creating a lot of discomfort and pain. Although arthritis typically shows up in the hands, knees and spine, this inflammation in the joints can appear anywhere in the body. This can manifest itself as conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder, pain between the vertebrae all throughout the spine and tension in the hips which can result in sciatic pain. As the arthritis progresses, muscles tighten to compensate for the joint damage and protect the bones.

COMPUTER TIP How well protected are you? Two particular issues have recently arisen. In one case Windows8 was failing to load. Win8 is extremely difficult to fix when it crashes but it does have the option of creating a full system image. It’s a sledgehammer but sometimes it’s either use that or reset the machine to its factory state – and lose your data! In the second case the user had got an external drive and copied all their photos, etc. onto it and deleted them from the original computer. This is NOT a backup – that requires two copies of your files. Sadly the drive failed (they all do) and the photos were lost forever. Please think about your backup strategies.
