We Only Have One Body, So Take Good Care Of It! I went to see Chartered Physiotherapist, and Nordic Walking teacher Heather Watson from Designed 2 Move at the Coach House Studios in Wirksworth. Heather is passionate about keeping people moving, whatever that may mean to them, Heather told me “I had a conversation with a client the other day who asked my recommendation on how many days a week he should do his physio exercises. I told him most days .” She continued “While this may seem like a big demand, it’s my fundamental belief that the human body is designed to move and regular activity is a necessity to keep all the body systems healthy, but I’m here to help people manage that safely, no matter where someone is starting from”. Heather’s had many years’ experience as a Physiotherapist, working within the NHS as a Spinal Clinical Specialist and also running her own private practice. She told me that she sees all sorts of clients, for example she’s treating an 11 year old girl at the moment who would like to be able to ride her horse more effectively - after a course of treatment with Heather expects her to have been able to improve her riding style and will be less likely to get pain associated with poor technique in the future.
I had a baby a year before and suffered with pelvic pain which is still on going, but with Heather’s help and support of manual therapy and exercise I’m slowly improving and our aim for my wedding day was met :) . I can’t thank Heather enough and will continue seeing her as long as it takes . Heather also told me that a lot of her work is educating her clients and teaching them strategies to help them cope with their problem and to show them different ways to perform a task that can allow them to live a more fulfilled and active life. Everyone needs a little "me" time, Women, especially need that time to pamper themselves a little after that busy day. As that old saying goes, “men may work from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done”. That saying certainly stands true; a little time set aside for yourself isn't too much to ask, even if it’s just taking a hot bath with your favourite candles and bubbles. My very good friend Sue and I had set a little time aside to go to Brackendale Day Spa near Carsington Reservoir, to enjoy their luxury facilities for an afternoon of ‘girly’ relaxing fun. Brackendale Day Spa is just a short drive from Matlock. We’d booked for one of their most popular packages of ‘Tea at the Spa’ includes a 30 minute treatment chosen from the ‘Tea at the Spa Menu’ followed by afternoon tea all for just £30, We arrived about mid-morning and we’re greeted by Lisa & Laura the owners of Brackendale Spa; we were offered a hot or cold drink on arrival and the chance to relax and chat a bit while we decided what treatments we wanted to have. Before we had our chosen treatment though Sue and I were given the opportunity to have a swim, sauna and some relaxation, (we paid a little extra to include this swim and sauna) We we’re given nice fluffy dressing gowns and a locker, and were directed to the pool, sauna and relaxation area. The facilities were excellent, the water warm and the view from the window very tranquil.

This is also true of the mind. If we are harbouring old physical and emotional tensions from the past, it is very difficult to relax. We do not usually realise that those deep tensions are there. Receiving regular massage can help enormously. It can not only uncover the deep tensions we accumulate over the years and bring them to our attention, but it can help us release deep stress and enable us to truly relax. It is always wonderful to see my clients when they are in a deep, trance like relaxation at the end of a 2 hour massage. The stress of the day falls away leaving them only with the present moment.
Prevention is the highest form of Medicine I have been a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist for over 12 years and work mainly with clients over the age of 40-50 years old. This is the time when we really need to have regular body work to help maintain our bodies in as good condition as possible. So many ailments, conditions and disease are simply a consequence of not undergoing regular activity that can put a full range of movement into our joints, muscle tissues and internal organs. This can lead to restricted patterns of movement that create an imbalance in the structural alignment of the body. In the western world, it is generally accepted that as we age, physical degeneration is inevitable and unavoidable. Modern day life, with its busy lifestyles, throws up responsibilities and challenges that tend to move us from one stressful situation to the next. It is all too easy to neglect the most important thing that we possess; our body. Yes, of course there is natural degeneration that occurs as we get older but it does not have to be anywhere near the degree that is so common place in our culture. It is a terrible thing to lose one’s mobility. Our entire world changes immediately if

COMPUTER TIP Spam, spam, spam, spam… A common question is, “how do I stop spam emails?”. Sadly, the answer is, “You can’t!”, but you can still do something about it.! You can’t block the email address it comes from because spammers keep changing that! Chances are every spam email comes from a different address, and they can even pretend they’re coming from someone you know. Your only hope is to use a spam filter. Gmail already has one that’s pretty good and even if you don’t use Gmail, you can set things up so that it filters your existing account. The National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline was founded in 1996 by Wendy Watson, at a time when little or nothing was generally known about Hereditary Breast Cancer. Wendy held the first Hereditary Breast Cancer Awareness week to mark the launch of the helpline. This was warmly received by the whole genetic community and supported by the late Princess Diana. Two genes had at that time been found which, if faulty, conferred around an 80-90% breast cancer risk.

The Helpline has also been involved with the current moratorium on ‘Genetic testing and insurance’, and was also active in alerting the government to the worrying situation of the gene patent, which, if allowed to go forward, would have made genetic testing prohibitively expensive for the NHS, thus costing lives.
The Helpline is manned as near as possible 24 hours per day, every day, although an answering service is always available. To date many thousands of calls have been taken The main aim of the helpline was to worldwide and Wendy has given nuensure that those worried about their merous talks internationally.
