proposal was for me to join him in opening a law firm that would re-shape I know let’s open a law firm in the the legal experience.
Sara says……
middle of a recession. In last month’s edition I was a 23 year old solicitor with pen in hand ready to take on the world of Wills and Probate. Yet after working in this field for a few years, I soon realised that this area of the law was extremely neglected. My aim was to
breathe life back into the death department and challenge the solicitor stereotype. I recognised that the process from start to finish could be improved and with cut backs in legal aid and the dawn of a recession looming, I knew I had to do something, and do it quick! Fortunately enough, an opportunity soon hit me, in the form of a Mr Mike Simpson…literally like a firework through my letterbox! Having no legal background, Mike saw Wills and Probate from a completely different angle. Mike’s

He envisaged creating a tailor-made legal service that would place the client and the lawyer on an equal footing. His business plan together with my legal aspirations created a recipe that would re-energise the legal sphere. Yes, Mike had no legal background and yes, I was going to become a partner of a law firm at the age of 27 but you know what, this new concept just felt right! I knew instantly that I didn’t want to work for anyone else ever again. I remember driving home in my little Ford Ka, singing along to Queen’s ‘Don’t stop me now’ feeling absolutely invincible. Since that trip down the A38, it has been 4 years of sunshine and terrible storms and it is the best thing I have ever committed to. I have been fortunate enough to witness bright, young individuals flourish in what was previously such an unloved area of the law and our firm, with its clients is growing every day.

FEEDING YOUR PET It can be difficult finding the right food for your pet, especially as there is such a large choice of diets available. Diets should be fed based on the age, breed, activity level and any health conditions your pet may have. You should also consider the type and quantity of treats you feed your pets, too many can lead to your pet becoming overweight. When feeding your pet it is important to follow the guidelines on the pack and always weigh out the food to avoid over feeding and weight gain. If you do decide to change your pets’ diet this should be done gradually over 5 – 7 days. Where possible split your pets’ daily ration into 2 or 3 smaller feeds throughout the day. At Carrick vets we stock Royal Canin foods which have an excellent range of products to help feed your pet correctly and maintain optimum health. If you are unsure on which diet your pet should be fed on please contact us on 01629 581234 for advice. If you join our Healthy Pet Club we also offer a loyalty scheme when regularly purchasing food from the Royal Canin range. We look forward to meeting you and your pets.

Cyber Security - How worried should a small business be? Even major technology brands, like Apple, who possess near-limitless resources to protect themselves against such attacks, are vulnerable. A recent security breach shut down its developer website, causing them to issue an apology with an admission that personal data of some of its thirdparty app developers—a relationship worth billions to Apple—may have been accessed. So, as small-business owners, how worried should you be? After all, if Apple is vulnerable, what chance do small businesses stand? So imagine the scenario: you run a small business. You've got a website to promote your wares and an office network with a small server holding your accounts, customer details and company designs. A couple of staff have laptops and your sales executive uses a tablet computer and a smart phone. You've installed an Internet security application on all company computers to protect them from viruses and other infections. Everything is progressing well until there's a fire overnight in a neighbouring office which crosses into your premises. The sprinkler system suppresses the fire but your server and desktop computers are destroyed by the water along with all the company data. Luckily you and a couple of staff have most of the customer information and company designs on your laptops at home and the accountants have copies of most of the financial records. Getting everything copied back to the new server takes a lot of time but you're up and running again within a couple of weeks. Only a few months after the fire, you get a call from Janet, your saleswoman, to say she's had her car broken into and her new tablet computer has been stolen. It’s got all her sales leads on it plus some design and marketing information. She's got a copy of the sales leads on her laptop but it's worrying where this information may end up. The police say the chance of recovering the tablet is very low.
and cleaned a new infection on the office computers. It says it was a data-stealing trojan or something like that. ☼ ☼ ☼
This is all imaginary but it's quite plausible and the risks and dangers may not be as obvious as you first think. That data-stealing trojan that was successfully removed by the security software could have remained undetected for a long time; perhaps a week, a month or even over a year, quietly stealing the company's information or logging keyboard strokes when entering information such as credit card numbers into websites. So the competitive product may be using designs stolen through an infected computer or from the lost tablet and undetected malware could be the cause of the banking fraud using the company's credit card. ☼ ☼ ☼
Our working practices are now heavily focused around the Internet and we require access to data in many forms and places both inside and outside the office environment. Whilst making our working lives easier this also puts corporate information assets at risk. The hypothetical scenarios described here may never affect your business but they are just a small set of many threats to a company's data. The first step to ensuring your information assets are protected is to have an information assurance assessment conducted by a security specialist such as Genus One Ltd. Working through the Derbyshire Dales region, Genus One will send a certified information architect to your site to carry out a survey of your corporate data assets and the protection measures in place. The resulting report will highlight areas where you need to focus on improving data security and resilience.
www.genusone.co.uk Tel: 01629 534984
After a couple of separate cases of banking fraud where the company credit card number and CVV has been used illegally you also notice a new direct competitor to your business. Worryingly they seem to have an almost identical product but they're selling it via the Internet at a significantly cheaper price than you. The Internet security suite seems to be worth its cost, though, because it's just found

Ebay Buying Tactics Do you use Ebay? Do you think it's an auction? Well it isn't! A real auction continues until no higher bid it's offered - Ebay stops at a given time with the highest bid winning. But there's more to it than that - Ebay knows what you’ve bid but only shows as much as it needs to beat the previous bid. What this all means is that there's no point in bidding before the very last minute, so bid the most you're prepared to pay and bid as late as you possibly can. The successful Ebay buyer bids only once for each item and that happens within the last few seconds of the ‘auction’. The real problem is working out what to bid! This is a complex topic so see the website for more.

Dales Directories Local Services was very happy when Personal Trainer Harley Farquhar agreed to join him in running the centre. Both Dean and Harley are very excited and can’t wait to meet potential new members. Parkside Fitness started as a germ of an idea when Dean Pratt the owner lived in this area a few years ago. At that time he was frustrated that he couldn’t find somewhere locally to train and work out that had a friendly atmosphere.
He also discovered that some people were uncomfortable using the cardio equipment in other gyms, as the equipment was in such close proximity to other people working out with the resistance equipment, basically people wanted more privacy. So began Dean’s long journey of of setting up his own Fitness Centre; the trouble was that he couldn’t find a suitable premises that was large enough to house all the equipment needed, that would also be easily accessible with free parking nearby. Finally after a long search he came across the unit on Olde English Road, Off Dale Road in Matlock which was the perfect place; a blank canvas where he could design the gym he’d been looking for. Part of Dean’s plan was to ensure that the gym had the right atmosphere and the right people around, so he

How Do Body Wraps Work? According to recent statistics, over half the population in the UK is overweight or obese. This is a staggering number, especially considering this figure keeps going up and up. As a result, it is certainly not surprising that the Internet has been flooded with all kinds of magical cures and quick fixes to address this severe epidemic. Among such instant remedies that promise amazing results is the It Works Ultimate Body Applicator, more commonly know as the body wrap. Invented by Luis Mujares, a scientist on the quest to cure skin cancer, the product was quickly patented and eventually sold to It Works in 2001. Since then the It Works body wrap has become the flagship product of their entire line of health and weight loss products. To understand how something like the body wrap could deliver on such impressive and unbelievable claims, we will first have to take a closer look at the science of fat cells. People who gain weight are not actually gaining more fat cells. The number of fat cells you have is set in childhood and remains constant throughout adulthood. Instead, existing fat cells are becoming inflated and inflamed. In fact, a single fat cell can expand to be approximately 1,000 times its original size. It is these oversized and inflamed fat cells that cause all the unsightly bulges, rolls and even cellulite. A large contributor to this issue is the toxic diets that have become pretty much the norm in western lifestyles. Processed foods filled to the brim with unnatural additives, preservatives, and these chemicals are a huge factor in the obesity rate; our bodies, including our fat cells, have become toxic. So how does the Ultimate Body Applicator work on fat cells? First and foremost, the all-natural ingredients contained within the body wrap promote a process called Lipolysis. This literally means “fat-breaking”. The plant extracts and botanicals get into the fat cell and ‘chop up’ the large fat molecules into smaller ones, which are now allowed to exit the cell. They are then burned up as energy somewhere else in the body, which is one reason why we want you to be well hydrated while you are using the applicators. This will help circulate the little fat molecules that are being released. The end result is a reduction
in the overall size of the targeted fat cells. The second major function of the wrap is to detoxify fat cells. Oversized fat cells can harbour a substantial amount of toxins. These toxins, when released from the cell, can have a considerable impact on the size of the fat cells. This is another reason why once again it is absolutely vital to consume a large amount of water during the process. Water will help flush these toxins from the body. Without enough water, these toxins will simply redeposit themselves in the body and substantially undermine the whole detoxification process. The third major function of the wrap is to promote microcirculation. Microcirculation is the delivery of fresh blood to the smallest blood vessels throughout the body. This is what creates the tightening, toning and firming effect of the body wrap, lasting some people months and months. The appearance of cellulite, stretch marks and scars are also greatly reduced as a result, leaving your skin looking much smoother and even. The fourth and final major function of the wrap is the overall anti-inflammatory affect the wrap has on the whole targeted area. Fat tissue is terribly inflamed because of all the toxins. Again, we get tightening, firming and toning because we’ve increased the overall health of the area and reduced the overall inflammation of the skin, leaving skin much healthier in appearance. The effects of a single wrap continue for approximately 72 hours after removing it and can last indefinitely, assuming you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime. However, for optimal results it is highly recommended you use four wraps within a two week period. Although the It Works body wrap is not a substitute for healthy eating and exercise, it can certainly be a pivotal jumpstart and turning point in an overall healthier lifestyle. For some people, a moment of what seems like magic is all they need to inspire them in a positive direction, and make what seemed unattainable finally and truly attainable. Every journey must start with a single step, and this is one step you certainly don’t want to miss out on.

I am so proud of my grandson Sam! My grandson Sam is a wonderful boy! He is good at so many things but he has always found spelling difficult. It made him afraid to be brave when doing any writing and he found ways of avoiding any free writing at school because he didn’t know how to ‘get started’. His confidence was very low and he dreaded his SAT’s, as his school had predicted a Grade 2 in Literacy for him.
At the beginning of Year 6 he had a Reading age of 8 years 10 months, his Comprehension was 7 years 10 months and Spelling at Year 4. After only 3 months with Kip McGrath his Reading- was 10 years 6 months, Comprehension – 10 years 4 months and Spelling at Year 5. His SATs results this May this year went from predicted 2’s to a fabulous 4a and two 4bs for literacy.
An extraordinary improvement, 2 years increase in just 3 months! Best investment I ever made for my wonderful grandson Sam. We took him I saw an advert for Kip McGrath last to The Lion King in London to celebrate! February and went to the school and Thank you Jo, thank you to all at Kip! met Jo, she assured me she could help From Sam’s Grandma and boy did she help my Sam!! She put together a programme to work on Sam’s spelling, his writing planning, hand writing and punctuation. Sam loved it. As he improved, Jo added stuff to cover grammar and the ‘technical’ bits that children now need to know. (Nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrases etc.) All part of English in my day at school! She extended his learning plan and vocabulary expansion and did some SAT practice papers. By May he could write an original piece of writing, do a comprehension reading task with accurate answers in full sentences and his confidence had grown to such an extent that he was asking for additional homework! My Sam … was asking for more writing homework, unbelievable! He even ‘cracked’ the correct use of the apostrophe!

Compost bins cost as little as £16.98, plus £5.49 delivery per order. They are supplied by Straight plc. Visit www.derbyshire.getcomposting.com or call 0844 571 4444 for more details. The low-cost compost bin is made from recycled plastic and carries a 15 year guarantee. The unit doesn’t require any putting together. You can find out more about how to start composting at the Derbyshire County Council website
by
going
to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/composting There you’ll find more information as well as a leaflet on achieving the perfect compost. Composting is a cost-effective and natural process that transforms kitchen and garden waste into a valuable resource.
