ith Laura’s HSC coming to and end and my university studies starting again, we’ve undoubtedly had our fair share of deadlines, stress and incredibly long nights! As always, Dalliance has been a place where I can relieve the angst of being a BA student and focus on something that I thoroughly enjoy (as well as reminding myself why I’m at university in the first place!) Whilst this issue may be small, it is nevertheless filled with amazing people. And whether it be the tattoo-duo from Hamburg or the hard-working girls featured in our Morning Routine spread, we are certainly never short of inspiring people who continue to fuel our (and hopefully yours!) determination in creating your own success. We short Jasmine

P.S. It’s insane to think that this marks the last issue of 2015. Have a good Christmas and see you in the New Year!

After endless Editor’s Letter’s counting down the months until I finish Year 12, and the HSC, the time has finally come! This issue is small (apologies! When you’re studying for 9 hours a day it’s a little tricky to fit things in!), but features so many fascinating, stylish and hardworking women. For career inspiration, head to our ‘Morning Routines’ spread, where leading ladies in the Australian fashion scene share the secrets to their success. Furthermore, after spending way too much time on Instagram in my 15 minute study breaks, I’ve collated some of our Insta-Finds in this months IT Girls spread, featuring the fascinating Allie Berman, Pamela Katz and Caroline Appel. Furthermore, visit our blog at www.dalliance-magazine.com/news for daily posts- We’ve finally put our primary procrastination activity of Buzzfeed quizzes into good use, making fashion focused quizzes for you guys! Hope you enjoy!

WHO’S THAT GIRL ALLIE BERMAN, MODEL BASED IN NEW YORK

Keith Morrison

1. WHAT’S ON YOUR CURRENT WISHLIST? A road trip across the country. I don’t care too much about the car, as long as it has a good stereo, and starry nights. 2. WHAT ARE YOUR 5 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS? Bandana/silk scarf, pointed boots that make you look like you’re the boss, tee shirts, jeans, black moto leather jacket.

4. WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE ‘MUSE’? Someone who really knocks you out. You let them burn you with their shrinking cigarette so you won’t forget. It’s an addiction. I think maybe less about the “muse”, and more about how the artist feels about their work with this person as inspiration.

3. IF YOU COULD INVITE ANY 5 PEOPLE (DEAD OR ALIVE) TO YOUR PARTY, WHO WOULD THEY BE?

5. IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

5 of my closest friends. We’d order pizza.

I’m exactly where I need to be in NYC. A loft in Paris to escape to would be nice as well.

6. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY OR NIGHT? As long as I start my day by myself with a cup of coffee, a cigarette, and The Velvet Underground I’m off to a good start. I like the city the most at dusk in the summer downtown. Everything is rosey and light when you’re a few drinks deep. Then find myself a rooftop, friends, a bottle of Andre, and a couple guitars.

PAMELA KATZ (1) WHAT’S ON YOUR CURRENT WISHLIST? 1. Land Rover Defender truck 2. Home in Malibu 3. Polaroid Camera 4. Stella McCartney underwear of the week 5. Vintage Pair of Oliver Peoples 6. VPI Nomad Turn Table

(2) WHAT ARE 5 OF YOUR WARDROBE ESSENTIALS? I’m sorry but I am giving you 6 of my essentials. They are essentials! 1. APC denim jeans 2. Circle ray bans / “blonde” optical Moscot glasses 3. White Colored Longsleeve Thermal 4. Overalls 5. RRL Necktie 6. Vintage leather backpack

(3) IF YOU COULD INVITE ANY 5 PEOPLE (DEAD OR ALIVE) TO YOUR PARTY, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? AGAIN, I AM GIVING YOU 6 PEOPLE. THEY’RE VIP. Mikaela Tick: Mikaela is my fiance’s sister who passed away about 2 years ago. I would do anything to see her smile, hear her voice, and hold her. And for her family to do that too. She is the most beautiful and happy girl inside and out. She is really missed. Johnny Depp: He’s so much fun to stare at. Johnny is my favorite actor and my forever dreamboy (Besides you Ryan Tick.) Bob Dylan: My #1 artist. He is a real musical legend to me. True hunk. His voice soothes my soul. He could sing in the back of my party anyday.

4

5

6

Joan Didion: She makes me reconsider life. Joan is brilliant and charismatic. I have so many questions I would love to ask her and it would be a pleasure to pick her brain. My closest friend Jennifer Steele got me into her books. Hannah Bronfman: I find Hannah to be super cool. And super motivating. Her and her fiancé Brendan are the definition of a power couple. Hannah is a DJ, so there is my music for the party. She would be chosen as my ultimate fun chick. I like where her head’s at. Stevie Dance: Well for starters I am attached to her first name, Stevie. Stevie is a fashion consultant and stylist in New York City. I am drawn by her whole aesthetic. Stevie is plain old cool and seems to beat to her own drum. She can put a pair of Levi’s on with a white tee and look like she is grooving and moving in her confidence. I’d love to meet her!

(4) WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE ‘MUSE’? Jane Birkin (5) IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY? I would live in Malibu, California. California is refreshing to me. Being a native New Yorker, I have always loved the beach. Being that I graduated from Boulder, Colorado, I have a thing for the mountains. California allows me to be myself in a place filled with palm trees, beach, mountains, desert, and insanely beautiful weather. It feels like home.

(6) DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY OR NIGHT? The day I got engaged was pretty perfect. And also pretty recent. My boyfriend Ryan planned a trip to Big Sur, California for us. I was supposed to be celebrating my 23rd birthday at this resort called Treebones. We rented the tree house for two nights. (yes it was a real tree house, held up by 3 trees with a suspension bridge leading up to it.) During the first nights’ cozy sleep in the tree house, we used the fireplace as our source of heat and the windows for fresh, salty, cool air. We were overlooking the coast, the water, redwoods, while being as high as the clouds. When I woke up the morning after the first night, I threw on my favorite LoveShackFancy silk dress and frolicked my way around the camp grounds. This was not typical of anything I’ve ever seen. I found an organic garden and had Ryan play photographer for a bit. A little later I had the most relaxing massage. Then I met Ryan back at the tree house where he was waiting for me to change into my favorite overalls and boots. I was dressing for a hike and supposedly the coolest lunch I’ll ever have. The first stop was at McWay Falls. Ryan said we needed to make it quick at the falls since it was already 1 PM and lunch at Post Ranch Inn Resort was at 1:30 PM. I wanted to get my picture at the falls with or without him for my Instagram. So Ryan asked a woman if she could take a video for us and she said “A VIDEO?” and he said “Shh. It’s about to get good.” Which I didn’t hear… About 1 second later he turns around and says my name in a voice I have never heard come out of his mouth ever and there it was…. He popped the question, I said yes, I kissed him in shock and poof …WE GOT ENGAGED!!!! Once my ring was on I boogied my way to Post Ranch Inn with my fiancé, making phone calls and staring at my ring… Lunch at Sierra Mar was insane. We saw some talented very cool celebrities posted up there. The restaurant had the best table in the house ready for the newly engaged couple! The lunch was a 5 course tasting menu paired with wines that I can’t pronounce. I was already on cloud 9 so that was just the cherry on top. We spent the rest of our afternoon driving up Highway 1 to 17 mile drive where we passed Cypress Point and Pebble Beach; two of the most naturally gorgeous and iconic spots… Once we got back to Treebones, I treated myself and enjoyed an hour long candlelight yoga class. I then walked back to my tree house star-gazing at the quality of the beautiful, dark night sky. The rest of the trip could

CAROLINE APPEL

1. WHAT’S ON YOUR CURRENT WISH LIST?

2. WHAT ARE 5 OF YOUR WARDROBE ESSENTIALS?

Anything with cowskin involved (the dream is a leather jacket with cowskin)

A leather jacket for sure!! My life got instantly better after buying one.

The Sweetheart bracelet from Saint Laurent FW 15

My pointy cheetah boots, I wear them pretty much every day.

A pair of gold metallic jeans This faux fur coat I saw online with stars

Skinny scarfs, are me and my boyfriend’s obsession. We have around 7 that we borrow from each other to mix and match.

I want a pistol tattooed on my left arm so bad! (sorry mom) I taught myself guitar a few years back, and since then I’ve always dreamt of a classic cherry red Fender.

Hats! I am a hat lover deep at heart. I just got a beret and it makes me feel so cool and French. Lace bras! I’ve always hated normal bras because they look so stupid under semitransparent shirts.

3. IF YOU COULD INVITE ANY 5 PEOPLE (DEAD OR ALIVE) TO YOUR PARTY, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? My boyfriend for sure! Kevin Shields. My Bloody Valentine is my favourite band. Hedi Slimane (just to be super creepy and watch his every move, and probably fan girl a little) Michael Jackson for obvious reasons. William Boroughs, one of my favourite authors and a party starter for sure.

4. WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE ‘MUSE’? My ultimate "muse" is not anyone in particular. I get inspired by so many things and people. I love groupies from the late 70's to 80's. I love that "I'm hooking up with the front man" kind of feel. Marianne Faithful would be a good example. I love people with messy hair and crooked teeth. People who don't think of what they're wearing but just look so cool. People who challenge the gender rules in fashion. I love to get inspired by movies like True Romance by [Quentin] Tarantino. I get a lot of my inspiration from boys, especially young Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix, but also my boyfriend [Micky Estrada].

5. IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY? My dream is to live in LA right now, but in the long run it is London. I’m in love with London and I travel there, as much as I can. The rent is just crazy right now, as I think everyone who is looking into moving there or is living there knows. It will take me some time to save up for that! 6. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY OR NIGHT? My perfect night would be with my boyfriend. I love to go to gigs and feel the vibes and maybe see the sunset…and we’d get ‘IN N OUT’ for sure.

VADERS.DYE We speak to the creative and original duo behind Hamburg based tattoo studio, Vaders.Dye. VADERSDYE.DE | MELINA’S INSTAGRAM: @XOXOTATTOO | MARIA’S INSTAGRAM: @MARIAFERNANDEZTATTOO

Q1 - WHEN AND HOW DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A TATTOO ARTIST? Melina: I’ve have always drawn a lot and I studied communication design, but it wasn’t until after my first couple of tattoos my interest in becoming an artist grew. Soon afterwards I decided to learn tattooing alongside my studies. Maria: It was roughly three years ago, when I was getting my first ever tattoo. Q2 - WHAT WAS THE FIRST TATTOO YOU’VE EVER DONE? Melina: It was really simple lettering that was created intentionally to look like bad handwriting. It was a good tattoo for practicing as you couldn’t really do anything wrong, for any mistakes just looked like they should be like that. Maria: My first tattoo was a chinchilla, so yes, I would defintely say my style has changed a lot since then. Q3 - IF YOU COULD DO A TATTOO ON ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE FOR, AND WHAT WOULD IT BE? Melina: It would defintely be Lana Del Rey. She is my girl, my inspiration, my muse. I would tattoo anything at her request, but it would be cool if she liked by style and designs. I think I would create a geometric piece or maybe some mandalas with a mystical touch. Maria: I would love to tattoo Yolandi Visser from the band Die Antwoord!

Q4 – DO YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT FOR TATTOOS TO ‘MEAN SOMETHING’? Melina: I think maybe for your first tattoo, because then you can’t go wrong, but with time and more tattoos I don’t think it becomes that important anymore. Tattoos are like permanent jewellery, if the style is timeless and not a trend motif then it’s ok not to have a meaning behind it. If you like it, get it into your skin. Maria: Not at all Q5 – WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO BECOME A TATTOO ARTIST? Melina: Constantly draw and find your own style. I don’t recommend tattooing at home, so find a studio or an artist who can act as your mentor. Pick an artist who accepts you and your style and doesn’t try and tell you that you have to learn every style or tattoo everything. Maria: You need to draw a lot... like really a lot!

Q6 – WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IS THE BEST ‘BEGINNER TATTOO’ AND WHERE? Melina: Like I mentioned earlier, your first tattoo should have meaning behind it so that the risk of you regretting later is much slimmer. I also wouldn’t recommend your first ink to be too big or in a place that is visible, so maybe the back of your ankle or on the back of your upper arm. Maria: Something small with a few long and clear lines, some flowers maybe? Also, I would recommend your first tattoo either on your arm or leg.

Q7 – DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULARLY INTERESTING STORY BEHIND ANY OF YOUR TATTOOS? Melina: No, not really. Maia: Yeah, I once tattooed some numbers on a guy’s arm. At the end I asked him about the meaning, he told me it was the date when he slept with his girlfriend fort he first time... She broke up with him after that! Q8 - WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING TATTOO YOU HAVE DONE? Melina:There has not been one specific tattoo that I have liked the most or found the most interesting. Every single one is really special and unique and during the years I have had many favourites. But I always give my best and put all my creativity into every single design; I will only tattoo them when I am completely satisfied with it. Maria: I made a sleeve about the five senses, all integrated in a tree. The design was filled with symbols and small intricate details about my client’s life. I really loved that project. Q9 – IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE LATEST TATTOO ‘TREND’? Melina: It’s hard to say. I don’t really keep up with the current tattoo crazies because my clients come to me wanting something unique. Normally they don’t want a typical trend tattoo, but I think there are still a lot of feathers, birds and infinity signs out there! Maria: small anchors

Q10 –WHAT IS YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE FOR PEOPLE TO CONSIDER BEFORE GETTING A TATTOO? Melina: Make sure the studio is clean and that you are a 100% certain about the artist… take a look at their portfolio! You have to find the perfect tattoo artist for you and your motif. Don’t try and get a geometric tattoo from an artist that specialises in realism and vice versa. Plus, if the tattoo artist has time to tattoo you tomorrow, then that too is not a good sign. Maria: Check the work of your tattoo artist and don’t run to the first parlour you see. Be sure you like his or hers style and don’t worry too much if you have to wait a few months for an appointment. It’s worth the wait!

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS: WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON THE FOLLOWING TATTOOS? ROSES Melina: I find that they are always pretty and timeless because there are so many variations and interpretations. Maria: Love them! INFINITY SIGN Melina: Just no! Maria: They have a nice meaning, but they’re unoriginal RIB QUOTES Melina: Very feminine, but I have seen them all too often. Maria: Not my favourite place to tattoo GEOMETRIC SYMBOLS Melina: Timeless and pretty, but they have to be really clean. Maria: Yesssss! ROMAN NUMERALS Melina: I like them; they’re great for personal dates. Maria: Not so fun… UNDER-BREAST TATTOOS Melina: I looove to tattoo them, the placement is great and they generally look really nice. Maria: Sexy and cool

SWEDISH STYLE Influences

WE CHAT WITH SOME OF SWEDEN’S MOST STYLISH, FINDING OUT THEIR CURRENT OBSESSIONS AND PASSIONS.

1. VIOLA BERGSTROM, SHOWROOM CONSULTANT AT PATRIKSSON

1. Rust bronzed eyeshadow for a tired but seductive look.

2. Marbling! I paint a lot, and this is my latest obsession. Just use water, sugar and paint to create the most fantastic patterns. Artwork by Dan Hallet: danhallett.blogspot.com

3. Pucci Zodiac Over The Knee Boots. I want everything in bedazzled velvet so I feel like a magician.

Get in touch: viola.freshnet.com Instagram: @violabergstrom

2. SANDRA EKENSTAM, STYLIST AND BLOGGER

1. One of my current obsessions are all those colours and shapes you can find in the garden. Some things you can eat and some of them not, but the growing process is just amazing to watch. Right now I’m doing a lot of juices and smoothies on fresh vegetables to stay healthy. And my apartment looks alive with all perishable goods, flowers in the windows and banana leaf pillows for the sofa.

2. I love to put a skirt on a pair of pants. You can make the normal t-shirt-andpants-look much more interesting by adding a skirt over it. Try different materials to get some dynamics into the look. You will get that feminine feeling but with a little masculine vibe. My saviour when I don’t know what to wear.

3. The new Swedish brand Lamija. If I could choose anything from Lamija SS16 I would be the world’s luckiest girl. She always kills it with her talent. I took the opportunity to go backstage after the show during Stockholm Fashion Week, so I could get some close ups, and I can’t really get it off my mind. www.lamija.se/aw15

4. I’m very sloppy when it comes to phones, that’s why I have to protect mine a little bit extra. This time I will do it with this snake printed case from The Case Factory, which will dive into my mailbox any day. I will get a matching one for my iPad as well, how chic?

Get in touch: sandraekenstam.freshnet.com Instagram: @sandraekenstam

3. AMANDA BROHMAN, MODEL, STYLIST AND BLOGGER

1. Designer Clare V. - Clare’s bags carry my life around in them all day, more or less, and I always feel so cool yet “me” walking around with them. And it doesn’t hurt that Clare has become a friend and is just the loveliest person.

2. Store: & Other Stories - I just recently realized how bad my Stories obsession was when I guided my friend around the store and people thought I worked there because of my knowledge of what was “new in stock this week”.

3. Person: Gloria Steinem - Why: One of the coolest, classiest, feminist role models a gal could have.

4. Place: New York - Why: I just moved to Stockholm from there after having lived there for 2 and a half years and I miss it so terribly on a daily basis. New York will always be my worst and also best obsession. An addiction I will never try to get rid of.

5. Item: This jacket [Acne Studio’s Velocite Black] is one of my few to-die-for pieces of clothing in the world. It’s just absolute perfection, and warm enough for Scandinavian winters.

Get in touch: amandabrohman.freshnet.com Instagram: @amandabrohman

4. ISABELLA LOOF, MODEL AT MODELLINK AND ELITE MODEL MANAGEMENT

1. The Givenchy SS16 show - Actually, I can’t explain how I feel for this show in words. I’ve always loved Givenchy, but the SS16 show was something special to me. The details and the emotions I get when I watch it is just indescribable. Riccardo Tisci is a true genius.

2. The song ”Why don’t you cry” by Willow Smith - I can’t believe that Willow Smith only is 14 years old. She is incredibly talented already, and I just can’t stop listen to this song! It’s very emotional, and I can tell that it’s very personal to Willow herself. And have you seen the video? She wrote it herself, and it’s made in collaboration with i-D. You really should see it!

3. Lara Stone for L’Express Syles September 2015 - Lara Stone is a true fashion icon to me. She’s an extremely beautiful woman, and I just love her little tooth-gap and bleached eyebrows. However, the editorial she did in L’Express Styles September 2015 is something extraordinary. Every single picture is on point, and I have saved all of them for inspiration for the future. The genius behind the camera is, of course, Richard Bush.

4. Maja Wyh - Maja Wyh is a famous fashion blogger from Germany, and I LOVE her outfits. Every single one of them. I don’t know how she does it, but she always looks amazing. And do you know why? My own theory is that she dresses with a level of realness - she wears whatever she wants, but she doesn’t let the pieces wear or overtake her. I wish I had her closet together with her great sense of styling!

5. Products by ZO Medical and ZO Skin Health - My skin therapist Jenny at Citylaser here in Gothenburg introduced me to these products about a year ago, and I have been using them since then. I had acne on my cheeks before, and now? It’s gone! And my skin is exactly how I want it to be - smooth and no unevenness. I have tried so many different skin products (and even antibiotics) in hope of getting rid of the acne I had, but nothing really worked. So I thought that my skin was impossible to fix - until Jenny customized a new skin routine only included by ZO Medical and ZO Skin Health. I am so happy and thankful about the results!

Who’s

THAT GIRL? Testament to Tyra Banks’ well endorsed belief that a hair cut can make a career, Ruth Bell has shot to fashion fame after chopping off her long blonde locks in place for a buzz cut.

Since the drastic change, the 19 year old has made her runway debut for Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection (not a bad gig!), as well as dominating Milan Fashion Week by opening shows for Versace, Pucci and Etro. Naturally, Hedi Slimane, a sucker for fascinating new faces, also jumped on board, using Ruth in Saint Laurent’s Cruise 2016 campaign. The new Agyness Deyn? We think so!

A typical morning for me starts around 6.00am with a quick walk around the block with our poodle Astro B o y, b e f o r e c h e c k i n g e m a i l s and news and social media feeds for fashion/retail/ b u s i n e s s / f a s h i o n t e c h n e w s. On a good morning, I ’ll manage to squeeze in a 20 minute Headspace meditation and a swim downstairs in our apartment b u i l d i n g i n K i n g s C r o s s. I d o quite a few live television news appearances as well, talking about the fashion business and if I h a v e a s e g m e n t c o m i n g u p, then I’m also often researching and prepping for that or else going over m y f i n a l b r i e f, b e f o r e h a v i n g my makeup done by my p a r t n e r Ke n t, w h o ’ s a m a k e u p a r t i s t. BEFORE WE SAY GOODBYE

what we’re loving

In the midst of chaos we’ve had during these past couple of months, we have found ourselves being inspired by simplicity .Whether that be through brands such as Matteu Swim (the most perfect clean cut swimwear), An Organised Life (c’mon we all need a bit of help with staying organised!) or beautifully photographed bloggers such as Style Heroine who lives the most editorial and envious life you can imagine!
