Context
Dr. Me studio set a one day brief, which involved doing three individual briefs. Design a vinyl, design a gig poster, and create anything, purely out of artistic freedom.

Design Research/ Reference Imagery
Evian Christ - Duga_3
A track by artist Evian Christ which incorporates the tapping sound of the duga_3 transmission. Duga-3 transmission was a Soviet over-the-horizon radar system used as part of the Soviet ABM early-warning network.
ODONIS ODONIS
They describe themselves as Industrial surf-gaze, Odonis Odonis are a band from Toronto signed to Buzz records.

I listened to both Evian Christ and Odonis Odonis to get a feel for their music and to help me try and create both the vinyl and the sleeve more accurately

Design Development
Brief: Dr. Me.
Vinyl Development
After listening to the track, identifying words that I thought best represented the music and gathering images, I developed the sleeve into something that I thought best represented the song.
Illustration Development
The idea behind brief 3 was to do whatever you wanted for no reason in the last hour.,
Poster Development
I found Odonis Odonis had quite an unusual sound so it was fun to play around with different colours and cuttings until I found something that I thought represented their sound.
Collage
Dr. Me pushed the idea of using collages through out the day as this is usually the starting point to a lot of their briefs.

I found that to get a nice grungy feel to my collages, printing them and then scanning them in again left a nice texture on the surface of the images.

Finished Deliverables
Brief: Dr. Me.
Vinyl Sleeve Concept
The track sounded very industrial but at the same was very euphoric. I tried to replicate this through the giant radio wave dish emitting clouds into the atmosphere.
Poster Concept
The poster was my representation of the surfer/ punk sounds of Odonis Odonis. The band has a real punk tone so I wanted the poster to reflect this by looking as if it had been quickly thrown together.

As the final brief was to do whatever you wanted, I decided to experiment with illustration and collage, and combined the two to create a poster.
