Brief: Intern Magazine

Context

Intern is a bi-annual independent print publication concerned with internships in the creative industries The magazine has two main aims. The first is to provide a tactile showcase for the precocious talent currently working in these fields unpaid and as interns.

Target Audience

Depending on the concept of your magazine the audience could be varied. Make sure your magazine is aimed at a niche market.

Brief

Come up with a concept for an independent magazine. The magazine should have its own niche market.

Independent Magazines

A lot of independent magazines are very focused on one particular subject, for example the intern magazines focus on interns, so they have quite a distinct market. As a group we had to decided what it was exactly we wanted are magazine about.

Occupations

A lot of our ideas circulated around peoples occupations, like a police man or fireman, someone that provided a service to the community. We looked into different roles in society, and tried to find an occupation that was unusual and interesting.

Brief: Intern Magazine

Concept Development

Our concept was to create a magazine that focused on all occupations, of people from all leaps of life and different social classes, and interview these people about their idea of what life is about.

Front Cover Design

I was asked to design the front cover to the magazine. I liked the idea of having a piece of clothing from each occupation, this piece of clothing needed to be related to the job. The idea of having the piece of clothing was to show at the end of the day, when the uniform is off, everyone is the same, it doesnt matter what you have to wear.

Magazine Front Cover

Brief: Intern Magazine

Design Concept

So for the final concept I decided that each front cover would bare the hat of the occupation that each monthly magazine would be about. I wanted to keep everything very minimal so that the focus was more on the item of clothing than the title.

Magazine Concept

The name ‘A Day In The life’ was chosen as the book was meant to take you through a day in the life of a selection of different peoples jobs. The idea would be to interview seven different people, a person for each day of the week.
