We, at American Ballroom Company Inc., formally invite you to join us at this year’s United States Dance Championships (USDC), which will be held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Lake Buena Vista (Orlando), Florida. USDC is the only official United States Dance Championships in the United States, and champions from this event will be crowned as the undisputed United States National and/or Open Champions. American Ballroom Company Inc. is dedicated to providing world class judging panels, a first rate staff, an excellent dance floor, beautiful music and dramatic lighting and decorations for the finest Pro/Am, Amateur and Professional dancers in the United States and around the world.

The Swan and Dolphin Resorts are absolutely beautiful, and have all the amenities anyone could ask for. There are 17 restaurants on property, ranging from a 24 hour eatery to several upscale steak and specialty restaurants. The location couldn’t be better, as it is only steps away from Disney’s Boardwalk, which also includes several fine eating establishments and the Atlantic Dance Hall.

Originally introduced in 2016, we are continuing our new tradition of awarding our top students with the prestigious Jane Chiang Pro/Am Top Student Scholarship. This cash award of $20,000.00 will be paid to the top 3 overall Pro/Am students at USDC each year, setting the standard as the largest Pro/Am scholarship money awarded to 3 students in the country. This award money will be contributed by her loving husband, Martin Chiang - ABC President, in her memory, and to honor the very special woman Jane Chiang was. The winner of the Jane Chiang Pro/Am Top Student Scholarship will once again be crowned on Saturday night and presented the Robe or Jacket of Champions along with a generous cash scholarship, as part of a tradition that can only be experienced at USDC. Don’t think we forgot about those hard working teachers! Top teacher awards will again be $100,000.00 in cash with overall awards in excess of $300,000.00 in cash, medallions and trophies! This is the most money awarded at any single event to top teachers, as proven when our past winners have taken home $35,000.00 in cash. Not bad for a single event!

Also in 2015 we launched the official United States Championships Circuit with great fanfare. We couldn’t be happier with the huge success it was, with all member organizations attending our event. One of the highlights of the Circuit was having all organizers on the dancefloor at the same time. That was a wonderful thing to see! Congratulations to our winners, and we greatly look forward to seeing who the next United States Championships Circuit champions are!

With all these activities, including the fact that Orlando is the second largest convention center and family entertainment center in the United States, we recommend you book your rooms and send your entries early. USDC 2016 was such a huge success and we sold out of hotel rooms very quickly. We expect 2017 to be even bigger, so please make your hotel reservations as soon as possible! But don’t fret, the recent renovations at the Swan Resort are now complete, so in addition to the resort being even more beautiful, the full complement of rooms at the resort will be available. This will ensure everyone attending can stay at the Swan and Dolphin Resort at the USDC rate, so please make sure to tell the hotel you are part of USDC to get the special rate, and enjoy the benefits that come with it.

General Rules Saturday Day, September 11th Professional & Amateur Divisions

GENERAL RULES The United States Dance Championships are conducted under the rules and regulations governing competitions and championships recognized by the National Dance Council of America, Inc. (NDCA). The following rules shall also apply:

1. “No responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in changing rooms, performance or seating areas, can be accepted by the Organizer, American Ballroom Company, Inc. or by the National Dance Council of America, Inc., and neither can they be held liable for injury sustained by persons attending this event. Everyone attending does so at his or her own risk”.

2. “All persons attending this event, whether as spectators or as competitors or as officials or guests of the organizers, shall be bound by the National Dance Council of America, Inc. Rules and Regulations, and by participating in this event automatically become obliged to adhere to them”. Additionally, the organizers reserve the right to refuse admittance into the ballroom and/or entry in a competitive event.

3. For events identified by the word “Open” or “Open to the World”, competitors from any country affiliated with the World Dance Council (WDC) may participate. Competitors from countries not affiliated with the WDC should contact the organizers for clarification.

4. Those events identified as “National Championships” are restricted.

Participants must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the National Dance Council of America.

5. In any Professional or Amateur division with fewer than three (3) couples entered, the organizers reserve the right to cancel the event. Competitors will be duly notified in advance of such cancellation and the entry fees will be refunded.

6. No couple is exempt from competing in any round of a Championship event.

Any couple who fails to appear at the scheduled time for the first round of any event will be disqualified from the event.

7. Should any point arise which is not covered in the Rules and Regulations Governing Competitions and Championships recognized by the NDCA or in these additional rules, it will be referred to the Dance Rules Committee and/or organizers, whose decision will be final.

Entry into the U.S. National or Open Professional Rising Star Competition is limited to professionals who have never reached the final round of the Open British, UK, International or U.S. Open Championships. The result of one style does not affect the eligibility for any other Rising Star Competition. Rising Star competitors are also eligible to enter the Open Professional Championships at the USDC.

If any person has an objection to the possibility of being seen on television we advise you not to enter the Ballroom while television production cameras are operating.

The four levels MUST be in consecutive order, you CANNOT skip a level. Students may enter in completely different dance levels in the American between Smooth and Rhythm and in the International between Ballroom and Latin, Students may enter only ONE Open category in each style. In the open levels you may dance two consecutive levels.

In the “All American” Pro/Am Competitions the Newcomers division is for beginning students with 50 hours or less of private instruction. Additionally, Newcomers are restricted to steps 1-5 of the Bronze syllabus.

In the Pro/Am Pre-Teen Championship division the amateur partner may not be over 11 years of age. In the Pro/Am Junior Championship division the amateur partner may not be over 16 years of age. Cancellation & Refund Policy THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 8TH, 2017 An official entry form must be completed and signed by all competitors entering the United States Dance Championships and the nonchampionship “All-American� dance competitions. All entry fees must accompany each entry form with Social Security numbers when sent to the organizers.

All entry forms must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fees and postmarked by the closing date of August 8th, 2017. Entries postmarked within five (5) days after the official closing will be accepted. No entries will be accepted without payment in full by VISA, MASTERCARD, Certified Check, Cashiers Check or Money Order in U.S. Dollars and made payable through a U.S. Bank. All payments made by credit card will be charged a 4% administrative fee. Please see entry cancellation & refund policy at bottom of this page.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY 1. All cancellations of entries must be made in writing to the organizers. No phone cancellations accepted.
