he healing power of local springs in Karlovy Vary was discovered in the middle ages, long before the city was established. e first reference about mineral water treatment comes from the 14th century when Charles IV healed his injured foot with the water. Currently, 79 springs have been discovered in and around the town, 13 of which are used for internal and external therapies. e majority of these 13 springs can be found on five beautiful colonnades called: Sadová, Mlýnská, Tržni, Zámecká and Vřídelní.

BATh s : Bubble Bath: Bathe in spring water at a temperature of 38°C with massaging bubble streams, resulting in skin perfusion and muscle relaxation. he Karlovy Vary colonnades are a distinctive and hugely important part of the town. ey were built in the 19th century and the start of the 20th century and all of them greatly enhance the beauty of this unique town. ere is a total of five colonnades: e Mill Colonnade (Mlýnská kolonáda), Park Colonnade (Sadová kolonáda), Market Colonnade (Tržní kolonáda), Chateau Colonnade (Zámecká kolonáda) and the Hot Spring Colonnade (Vřídelní kolonáda).
Its roof is supported by 124 Corinthian columns and it boasts five mineral springs. e roof is decorated with 12 statues which represent the months of the year. e following springs can be found at the Mill Colonnade: Prince Wenceslas I (65 °C); Libuše Spring (62 °C); Rusalka Spring (60 °C); Prince Wenceslas II (58 °C); Mill Spring (56 °C); Rock Spring (53 °C). CasT l e C o lo n na d e e Castle Colonnade can be found above the Market Colonnade and was built between 1911 and 1913 by Friedrich Ohmann. It consists of two sections: the Upper Spring Colonnade which is open to the public and Lower Spring Colonnade which is only available to members of the Castle Spa. HoT s P r i n g C o lo n na d e e Hot Spring Colonnade features the renowned Hot Spring which yields on an average 2.000 litres of mineral water per minute. Due to the pressure, the hot spring water can spurt to a height of up to 12 metres. Built between 1969 and 1975 by Professor J. Vortruba, the Colonnade area contains a total of 5 containers which provide thermal waters of 72, 57 and 41 °C.

Parkhotel richmond area The unique Japanese Garden is located close to the Parkhotel Richmond, but don’t be expecting to see a range of exotic Japanese plants and flowers, because the Garden mainly consists of an array of carefully placed stones which were designed by Masumi Schmidt- Murakami, a Japanese living in Germany. The area also hosts some stunning statues and monuments. The Garden is part of an English-style park close to Hotel Richmond. The place is supposed to symbolise water and is an excellent area for meditation.

Café Elefant is the most famous café in Carlsbad with a long tradition in which, among others, young J.W. Goethe, Ludwig van Beethoven, Emperor Francis I and his wife Empress Marie Louis, spent their leisure time. e interior is antique and designed according to the style of a traditional Viennese café. e Café offers a wide range of quality coffees, premium cakes and desserts of its own production, fresh salads and sandwiches. 60
Stop for a moment in the most famous Carlsbad café, whose history dates back to the 18th century. Café Elefant, with a golden elephant emblem, can be found in the spa area, opposite to the theater. As most people are probably aware, the vast majority of tourists visit Karlovy Vary for reasons which revolve around health and relaxation, and for a love of the quiet life, so the nightlife scene isn’t quite as vibrant as you would find in most other Czech towns and cities. However, when darkness falls over the spa town, there are a number of hotspots which are both entertaining and enjoyable. One of the most modern buildings in the town is the KV Arena, which as well as playing host to the local ice-hockey team, is also the location for various concerts and dance events, so be sure to check their agenda during your stay. hen it comes to alcoholic beverages in e Czech Republic, beer comes first, but there is another drink which ranks high on the Czech list of favourite tipples and that’s the herbal liquor known as ‘Becherovka’, and it is produced right here in Karlovy Vary. Becherovka is flavoured with aniseed, cinnamon, and approximately 32 other herbs and it holds an alcohol content of 38%. It is often used to help indigestion and several former Eastern Bloc countries use it as a remedy for arthritis. It was formerly known as Becherbitter and is often referred to as the ‘14th Spring’ in Karlovy Vary. e father of Becherbitter was Josef Vitus Becher, who in the late 1700s rented a still-house somewhere in the town and started to experiment with alcohol. His son Johann Nepomuk Becher (known as ‘Jan’ in e Czech republic) took over the business in the early 19th century and from that point onwards the drink began to boom. Becherovka’s mysterious recipe remains a secret. Today there are only two people in the world who know the entire production process. is duo are the only ones allowed to enter the

It is normally drank as an ice-cold shot, but in recent times it has also become popular as a mixed drink and is regularly combined with tonic water. Masters at the un Studio even dare to combine porcelain with metal or crystal components, which is a very difficult process that requires experience and precision. But the results are worth it. It is not easy to succeed with handmade smallscale production in today's industrial world. Manufactory relies on the quality of raw materials, skilled craftsmanship that has been passed down for generations and original design. e authors of creative designs are leading Czech artists and designers, such as Jaroslav Ježek, Blanka Matragi, Jiří Karmazín, Jiří Laštovička, Miroslav Páral and Martin Přibík. e most successful works of the Studio are included in the collections of the Museum of
Decorative Arts in Prague, porcelain collectors, however, can’t wait for each new set. In September this year, two novelties were presented already. A Modernist set WO-MAN, whose author is the designer Martin Přibík and a limited set of ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK created and designed by sculptor Jiří Laštovička. Introductory ceremony was attended by a number of celebrities of the social and cultural life, as well as by many lovers of porcelain and the interest only confirmed that the two novelties will surely be among the favorite products of manufactory Atelier JM Lesov.

По словам директора мануфактуры Алены Кратиновой: «Благодаря традиционным методам здесь можно создать даже самые сложные формы и замысловатые декоры, фарфор вручную украшают живописью, золотом, платиной или кобальтом». К самым интересным и роскошным сервизам мануфактуры из г.Лесов относятся известный императорский сервиз "Thun", впервые произведенный в 1856 году для императора Франца Иосифа I, и набор "President", который был изготовлен для президента Вацлава Гавела и который с 1999 года используется на Пражском Граде. Кроме того, мануфактура выпускает и украшает узорами оригинальные чайные и кофейные сервизы, наборы для двоих и одиночные авторские изделия от известных чешских художников.
Произведенный в Лесове фарфор с первого взгляда привлекает внимание необычной формой. Мастера студии осмеливаются сочетать фарфор с металлическими или хрустальными деталями, что является очень сложным процессом, требующим опыта и аккуратной работы. Однако, результат того стоит. Малому ручному производству добиться успеха в современном индустриальном мире не так то просто. Мануфактура делает ставку на качество обрабатываемого сырья, на ремесленное мастерство, передаваемое из поколения в поколение и на оригинальный дизайн. Авторами 76
творческих проектов являются ведущие чешские художники и дизайнеры, как, например, Ярослав Ежек, Бланка Матраги, Йиржи Кармазин, Йиржи Лаштовичка, Мирослав Парал и Мартин Пршибик. Prague Castle is the most visited attraction in the city. e Castle was most likely founded around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty (Přemyslovci). According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m². A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles. e Castle is open daily from 5.00 - 24.00 in the autumn season (April 1 - October 31) e Changing of the Guard ceremony by the Castle gates takes place every hour.
The Charles Bridge (Karlův most) is a famous,
historic and beautiful bridge that crosses the Vltava River. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished at the beginning of the 15th century. e bridge is 516 meters long and nearly 10 meters wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and the third one on the Old Town side. e bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, originally erected around 1700 but now all replaced by replicas.

More bad news followed, as golf became an undesirable sport following the change in the Czech political environment in 1948. However, the hard work and perseverance of a small group of players comprising mostly of earlier members ensured the rebirth of the club in 1949.
Karlovy Vary Golf Resort was established in 1904 by the 'Gentlemen's Fencing Club' with the objective of expanding the range of sporting activities available for guests visiting the spas.
Since then, it has gone from strength to strength and proof of this can be witnessed through the expansion of club membership (currently more than 900 members), the construction of a wonderful clubhouse and the creation of active teams such as the Ladies Team, the Seniors team and the Junior team.
Originally, it was a nine-hole course situated in ‘Gejzirpark’ on the southern outskirts of the town, but it soon became clear that nine holes would be insufficient for a town that was becoming more and more celebrated and a sport that was becoming more and more popular.
e course itself is right up there with the very best parkland courses you will find in Europe and provides a stiff test for even the most accomplished golfer, with a huge emphasis on accuracy.
Consequently, the local council made plans for expansion and an area close to the small town of Olsova Vrata was eventually selected as the perfect location for a bigger and better course. Paris architect, C. Noskowski was one of the top golf course designers at that time and it was he who created the layout of the new course in 1933. However, the economic crisis and World War II ensured that the facility was never fully completed and no clubhouse was ever established.

Старейший гольф-клуб в Чехии
Самый старинный и самый лучший Гольфный Клуб в Чешской Республике! Карловарский Гольфный Резорт был основан в 1904 году "Джентльменским клубом фехтования"с целью расширить ассортимент спортивных мероприятий доступных для гостей посещающих курорт. Первоначально это было поле с 9 лунками, расположенное в 'Гейзерпарке' на южной окраине города, но вскоре стало ясно, что 9 лунок недостаточно для города который становится все более и более знаменитым, и спорта, который становится все более и более популярным.
Следовательно, местный совет сделал планы на расширение, и район, находящийся недалеко от небольшого городка Ольшова Врата в конечном итоге был выбран в качестве идеального места для большего и лучшего курса.
Архитектор из Парижа, С. Носковски был одним из ведущих дизайнеров гольфных курсов в то время, и это был именно он, кто создал макет нового курса в 1933 году.
