“One week before halloween!” exclaimed Danny Dawn. Danny Dawn, Deltha Dawn’s younger brother was always driving people insane like usual! Deltha Dawn was one of those popular, smart and caring girls at school. She respected her parents, loved to learn and be a risk-taker. She had a best friend called Nikki, also one of the PSC (popular, smart, caring) girls.
On the weekend before Halloween, Nikki came over to the Dawn’s house for a playdate. Nikki only lived 5 blocks away from Dawn’s apartment. When she arrived, the 3 kids got together and decorated the apartment with scary decorations, including fake spider webs, fake blood dripping down the ceiling and some other decorations with weird looking faces. After decorating the house for the whole afternoon, they had dinner together with Deltha and Danny’s parents. Della Dawn (Deltha’s and Danny’s mom) used to be a chef in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. She cooked delicious food such as pepperoni pizza, honey barbecue flavored ribs, chicken salad and spaghetti with carbonara sauce. For dessert, Della baked some homemade chocolate lava cakes! The feast was mouth watering and decadent!
After dinner, Dawn’s family and Nikki watched a movie and relaxed themselves on the sofa which was as comfortable and soft as husky fur. Everyone felt cheerful, calmed and comfortable, their faces were filled with glowing lights. The following week was filled with anticipation and excitement for Halloween which was the girls favorite time of the year.
Halloween had finally arrived! Danny decided to dress up as a zombie, Deltha was an evil princess and Nikki was a vampire. Deltha, Danny and Nikki set off to the Canadian International School together on the school bus. As the bus passed through the streets, Nikki and Deltha could see that the streets were bustling with joy and excitement. When the siblings arrived at school, Deltha and Nikki joined the PSC girls on the playground. Danny went up to the library to finish up all his assignments from the previous week that were due today. During school periods, the kids in the lower school all had grade or class parties for half of the day to celebrate the holiday. On halloween, none of the students needed to learn, it was just simply having fun and free time! The school day passed rapidly and the sugary treats flowed, of course the pupils brought thrilled and blithe smiles back home. Students were also really looking forward to trick-or-treating that night.
After dinner at around 7:30pm, Nikki went to Dawn’s apartment and set off to trick-or-treat together. First, they went to some of the PSC girls for trick-or-treating, Deltha, Danny and Nikki collected a total of two Ziploc bags full of candy. The friends ate some of their treats under the waving trees in the streets full of surprises. As they ate most of their candy together, Deltha Dawn noticed something that looked extremely eerie. She whispered to her friends eagerly:” I… saw something in the shadows over street…. that looks… creeeeeppppy!!”
What was it?? Everyone was wondering and felt as scared as a bunny in a fox hole, except for Deltha!
Since Deltha was the kind of person who was very brave and liked to discover new things. She suggested to go over to the street where she saw the shadows and noticed a structure was located there. However, Nikki and Danny could not be persuaded, they were very frightened and were freaked out easily about haunted things, especially on Halloween!
So all alone Deltha decided to be brave and  go down Saint Catherine Alexandra Rogers East Avenue (aka S.C.A.R.E Avenue) all by herself! Danny and Nikki heard a creaking sound from behind them and screamed. They decided it would be better to be in a group than alone so they decided to follow Deltha to the haunted-house like structure.
As the friends slowly creeped their way down S.C.A.R.E. street, Nikki’s lips were trembling badly, her face looked immensely pale even though her face was painted. Danny’s legs were shaking and he had butterflies in his stomach. Deltha was walking with her shoulders up straight and felt very confident and delighted to have the opportunity to discover something new and unusual on Halloween. Finally, the children arrived in front of a deserted run down house. On the entrance was a sign that wrote “DO YOU DARE to COME IN?!” in bold, bloody and red paint. The house looked as scary as a thief in disguise trying to hide away from the police. Suddenly the door swung open and there hovered two orange eyes blinking at them and a dark, haunted ghost-like shadow welcoming them in. Leaves began to fall from the tree above them and dropped speedily to the surface as a stiff breeze roared loudly around the three kids.
Nikki screamed and her was heart was pounding so much that it almost popped out of her chest. As a result she fainted right on the spot. The siblings started to panic and did not know what to do. They thought that by pouring water on Nikki’s face she may wake up wake up.
The blinking eyes had vanished from the entrance by this stage and it seemed that the water was working. Nikki was soon looking fine and was able to stand up although she was a bit unsteady and still very pale. Even though Nikki was still in shock, the kids decided to keep moving into the house. Deltha Dawn felt quite enlivened, but she seemed to start shaking uncontrollably. They crept inside the house cautiously, they were actually quite surprised as there wasn’t anything special or spooky as they had imagined. Deltha had remembered their purpose tonight and suddenly shouted out “Trick-or-treat!” . Nikki and Danny jumped at the sudden noise and gave Deltha a look of death. Although, dark shadows were lurking in the night, along with a smell of mustiness in the air as misty as hundred layers of fog, whispers of “Deltha, Danny, Nikki“ echoed down the hallway. As they surveyed the old house they discovered mice, spiders and snakes on the floor and on the mucky windows. Those creatures were very spooky and almost meant the end of Nikki and Danny staying with Deltha. They wanted nothing more than to get out of this horror story. Now, the brave and risk-taking Deltha started to sense a feeling of scariness inside her…. Phweeeeeeeee…... Phweeeeeeeeeee….. Phweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… body. “What was that!?” the children exclaimed in total horror.
All of a sudden, something flashed in front of them and screeched. “GHOST AARRRRHHHH………...!” roared Danny, Nikki and Deltha at the top of their lungs. As they howled, the ghost- like figure flew around the air with complete terror and the children were freaked-out . Their brains could not believe what their eyes were seeing. The three of them all decided unanimously to leave the house without a doubt. As they swung around and bounded towards the door it suddenly closed all by itself with a loud clunk and then quieter click of the lock. They spun back around hoping that the ghost-like figure had left them, but unfortunately the ghost shadow started to come closer. Nikki, Danny and Deltha’s hearts were pounding as quick as Grease lightning. The ghost figure began to descend to the ground and landed directly in front of them. Nikki and Danny felt very ill and pale, Deltha was sweating from head to toe, all feeling extremely horrified. “Hi….
When Deltha’s eyes opened all she saw was the roof, she moved her head to the side and noticed Danny and Nikki also on the ground and were slowly waking up. “Did anyone recognize me? Hello? Are you alright?” said a familiar voice. All three of them sat up straight away “Who are you?!” exclaimed Danny, Deltha and Nikki in a vague way. By now The lights were turned on and as the children’s vision cleared they realized it was actually Mrs. G. Scaryfreak who was Nikki’s neighbor and also her mother’s step sister. Mrs. G.Scaryfreak was a tall lady, she had long, curly and blonde hair, she was also quite skinny for an average woman. “But we saw a ghost, it talked to us!!” muttered Danny. “ Oh dears, come outside and all will be revealed” smirked Mrs G.Scaryfreak.
They went outside to the front yard and soothed themselves onto the garden chairs. The children were all given candy to help soothe their fear and then Mrs G.Scaryfreak began to tell them what had happened.
First, she explained about the blinking lights, it was just a set of lights from ‘The top 10 Halloween optical illusion site” from the internet. The shadows were just images from a screen and the sounds were just music from Bootube. Mrs G.Scaryfreak loved Halloween and enjoyed living up to her name. She did not realized she had succeed so well until Deltha, Nikki and Danny walked in and fainted. Everything became clear and by this time it was late at night, the children needed to get back, so they started to walk back to their homes.
The rest of the night was very peaceful compared the the haunted house. Danny, Deltha, Nikki and Mrs. G. Scaryfreak had all shared a new Halloween experience together. Before they left each other Deltha said to Nikki “Goodnight and Sweet dreams!........if you can even get to` sleep after that.
