know how important it is to respect one another's view's and opinions. Whilst this can be incredibly frustrating and often devastating when they are so opposite to our own; acceptance that we are all different is the only thing that keeps democracy alive; which is something our great leader- Mandela- was such an advocate for. We've had some bitterly cold weather and are in the throes of the school holidays. For those who are not fortunate enough to be heading somewhere warmer, there are a host of indoor, child-friendly venues to keep the family entertained, some of the best food and wines in the world to enjoy and our winter style guide delivered to your door. Lisa Cowley: Loves looking Classy & Comfortable By: Danni Thunell Ende She's appeared on the cover of Shape magazine 5 times, and looking at her figure now - it's no wonder. A yoga fundi - she takes health seriously. She's shot commercials for Nike, Toyota, Liqui fruit, Peugout and many more international brands but dedicates most of her time these days to raising her son, Noah. She lives in Constantia and loves the fact that she lives amidst the trees. How did you get into the fashion and modelling industry? I started modelling when I was a youngster at school just doing after school shoots and commercials for some exciting brands and photographers. I took some time off focusing on my school work and got back into high fashion when I was 13. Flying to Milano first with my mother then to Paris and NYC. Tell us about a few of your career highlights? The biggest highlight has been to travel the world and soak up all the cultural delights. I absolutely loved South America travelling there with a local magazine and I connected with the humble crew in India shooting a luggage campaign and Elle India. But my favourite travel abroad has always been to NYC where I represented SA in the NY fashion week working with the brilliant choreographer, Jan Malan. What do you love most about living in Cape Town? I live in Constantia among the greenest trees and forests. I think we are spoilt for choice in Cape Town but my absolute favourite thing to do is take in the fresh air either along Muizenberg towards St James or a walk in the beautiful Cecelia Forrest.

As a new mother how did you get your body back? I got straight back to gym and running as soon as I got the go ahead. I used the Virgin Club V while I worked up a little sweat. After I stopped breast feeding, I found the weight fell off me. I also found it hard to find time to eat as I'm a hands-on mother. How do you balance work with motherhood? I’m in the fortunate position where I’m not rushed to get back to full time work. I have been selective and mostly spend my time raising my little boy. Saying this, my mother is the most incredible baby sitter and Noah's face lights up the minute she walks brought the door. I don't know what I'd do without her. Who is your favourite clothing designer? I really love looking classy but comfortable and find I'm always looking at local stores like Witchery, Country Road and Jenny Button. A perfect day in Cape Town would be spent... Having a family braai on a warm summer's day where the children are running carefree and good music is playing. What's your favourite guilty treat? I just discovered peanut butter flavoured ice cream at The Creamery

Tell us something about yourself no one else may know? I dry body brush my skin 3 times a week and always turn my shower to freezing cold. It wakes you up faster than an espresso! What book is on your bedside table at the moment? The Tao of motherhood If you could be any celebrity, who would you be ? I would be a world traveller of some sort perhaps Charles Darwin. What are your top 3 must have beauty products? YSL touché éclat, Regime A zesty C cleanser and the Regime A super smoothing serum

Cape Tranquility Centre: A Luxurious and State of the Art Medical Centre Cape Tranquility Centre (CTC) is based at the magnificent new Point Building which has become a landmark in Sea Point Cape Town. CTC boasts being a specialist medical & mental health service provider for the Atlantic Seaboard community. Dr Shikar Mothilal, a specialist physician, and Dr Shaheen Kader, a specialist psychiatrist, run their practices at this luxurious centre. We met up with them to find out more. What is the vision of your practices? Our vision is to provide specialist medical and mental healthcare, holistically and conveniently to patients. It seeks to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and provide reduced waiting time for specialist consultation. Our practices provide high tec medical investigations and treatment facilities in a luxurious environment that facilitates care and dignity. This ethos is congruent with the lifestyle of individuals and families in the greater Cape Town area who want excellent health-care made available to them at an affordable cost. What makes your practice different from others? We practice up-to-date, evidenced based medicine in a calm and tranquil facility. This gives all patients an opportunity to be treated with dignity, comfort, peace of mind and reassurance that they are receiving the highest standard of care. Furthermore, we have a network of general practitioners, psychologists, radiologist, medical laboratories, dentists, physiotherapist and pharmacist within the Point Building. This allows all our patients to get

blood investigations, radiology investigations and medicine within a single facility. What’s the correlation between ones medical and mental health? The WHO describes health as a state of physical, mental and spiritual well being. The implication here is that medical and mental health are inextricably interwoven and need to be treated together as they are interdependent entities. Far too often this is neglected in clinical practice and it is the reason why we have partnered together. We live by the moto, “We treat people, NOT diseases! Can each of you tell us a little about the other. Dr Shaheen Kader is a specialist psychiatrist who trained at UCT and is presently a Fellow of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He received the award for best Masters of Medicine Clinical Research in Psychiatry from UCT and the South African Society of Psychiatrists as a registrar. His exuberance and warm personality has made him an extremely popular psychiatrist. He has featured as a medical guest on SABC's morning Expresso show promoting mental health and is an advocate for destigmatising mental health issues. He represents the South African Depression and Anxiety Group at public mental health educational programmes. He manages and treats general psychiatric disorders across one's lifespan including child, adolescent, adult and geriatric psychiatric disorders. He has a special interest in addictions; bipolar-spectrum-

disorders and sleep disorders. Dr Shikar Mothilal is a specialist physician who is also a fellow in pulmonology. He qualified Cum Laude from his undergraduate studies and went on to specialise in Internal Medicine at UCT. During this time he performed his Masters in Medicine in heart disease which he passed with distinction. He is currently a Fellow in pulmonology and has gained in depth expertise in respiratory medicine as well as critical care. His practice offers the latest in specialized cardio-pulmonary investigations. His approach is based on leading a balanced healthy lifestyle focusing on overall mental and physical wellbeing. His practice at CTC focuses on specialist consultation in a broad range of medical illnesses including heart and lung diseases, infectious diseases, joint disorders and metabolic diseases like diabetes, thyroid and cholesterol problems. What about your professions are you most passionate about? The ability to transform health and well being of the family and community. Passion in this regard is what puts perfection in our work as we make a meaningful and positive contribution to the society that we are serving. Both of us endeavour to be exemplars of what we preach to our patients.

The Astonishing Return of Norah Wells

The main character Zoe Maisey is a child genius and musical sensation. That is until one terrible error in judgement sends her to prison. Pushed from an early age to excel by an overbearing mother, yet one who fiercely loves her daughter, this is a very intriguing psychological thriller. The story begins with a piano performance in what she terms her “second chance life.”After Zoë's release from prison her mom remarries a wealthy businessman and they become the perfect mom and daughter team with her husband none the wiser to her tragic past. Hours after her re-emergence on the musical scene, her mom is found dead. What happened to her and who is responsible? Dark and gritty; this novel deeply explores the burden of being brilliant and the complicated relationship between a mother and her daughter. 8/10

Fans of her first novel “What Milo Saw,” will love her second book. One morning Norah walked out on her husband and children without a backward glance. Flash forward 6 years and she returns home to find her former best friend romantically involved with her husband and playing mom to her children. Fay held Norah's family together after she left, a duty which Norah herself bestowed on her. Is it then a surprise that things have unfolded the way they have? What choice did Fay have? Always playing second fiddle to Norah and with demons of her own, you can't help rooting for Fay and are desperate not to see her ousted from the family home after 6 years of bonding. Norah's eldest daughter is furious when she finds out her mom wasn't kidnapped but had left of her own accord. An intense family drama! Recommended. 8/10

The Perfect Girl Fool Me Once By: Harlan Coben R313

This book was impossible to put down. Former war veteran, Maya, has suffered unthinkable tragedy with the murder of both her husband and sister within a few months of each other. Grieving their loss she thinks perhaps her mind is playing tricks on her when she sees her dead husband's image captured on her nanny cam. She is determined to solve this mystery and must face some uncomfortable truths about herself, her past and her husband. Coben is the master of the twisted double plot and this will keep you gripped until the bitter end. I devoured it in a single sitting. 10/10
