Kommetjie, which is Afrikaans for “Little Bowl”, is named after the circular bowl-like sea basin known as ”Die Kom” which forms the heart of this seaside town. It is perfect for water lovers as there were surfers, stand up paddle boarders, boats, jet skis and all number of water activities going on during our stay. In fact, it made us feel a bit lazy sitting on the expansive deck soaking up the view but we soon got over that and began to really unwind in this little piece of heaven. We were lucky enough to have exceptional weather during our stay with cloudless blue skies and no wind. It was still quite chilly though so we had the huge fire going around the clock in the cosy, maritime living room. Our children spent hours on the dunes in front of the house looking for sea urchins and just

Every beach home I've stayed at has something totally unique about it and these seaside holiday weekends never cease to provide me with some much needed soul food. This month saw us stay at The Point in Kommejie. At first I wondered if that lovely, relaxed “I'm-on-holiday” feeling would abound, seeing as Kommetjie is well under one hour's drive from Cape Town. Thankfully it did!

mucking about in the sand. There was also little rock pools that kept them endlessly entertained whilst trying to catch a myriad of little sea creatures using their buckets and nets. We never worried about them and didn't once hear the expression, “I'm bored”; which made such a refreshing change from city life and gave us parents a welcome break from the type of helicopter parenting we practice at home. Unfortunately it was too cold to swim (for us lightweights at least) but the house boasted a lovely pool which would be an awesome way to cool down in the hot summer months. The best view from the house came from the upstairs deck which embodied understated elegance and simplicity with its nautical colours and huge built in love seat with loads of throws and scatter cushions for ultimate comfort. The patio

upstairs had uninterrupted sea and mountain views and allowed you to watch the children play on the beach whilst sipping a sundowner. The Point comfortably sleeps ten with four bedrooms inside and one outside annex. It's most outstanding features would have to be simply its fabulous location as well as the tastefully luxurious way in which it was decorated. If you're looking for a romantic weekend away with your partner, a fun couples retreat or even an action packed family holidaythis is the house for you. Start packing!
