How thinking in miniature led two local entrepreneurs to a huge idea Auricoe, a recruitment agency with a real purpose

att Goodman and Gerry Ashison’s story began in Wimbledon, where it remains firmly rooted to this day. Having met at King’s College School in the nineties, their journey has been layered with international competitions, science degrees, and music production - a career finding work for others came somewhat out of the blue.

Where do I want to work and where will I succeed? The recruitment company that they founded in 2006, rebranded Auricoe in 2020, is on a game-changing quest, transitioning from finding people jobs, to finding them work with purpose. The premise focuses on the single factor that binds these two together: values. The backdrop for their brand promoting this values-led approach is their unique miniature artwork. They create and photograph thought-provoking scenes for their online content, which has led to brand collaboration, gallery shows

that match their values, and an opportunity to search on their terms. It’s less “Who’s hiring?”, more “Where do I want to work?”, and “Where will I succeed?”.

Does job hunting captivate you or fill you with fear?

Values govern what we believe to be right, catering for a kaleidoscope of personalities and backgrounds, as well as extending a common purpose. They affect all our critical decisions, how we set goals, prioritise our time, and manage our emotions. When individual and company values align, work feels less like work, and people gain purpose. Shared goals, increased engagement and maximum productivity are the result.

Personality assessments have long ruled the roost on “soft skills”. Developed in a bygone era, without sound scientific basis and occasionally harming efforts to improve diversity, equality and inclusion.

“The world’s fastest growing companies lead the way when it comes to corporate culture,” says Matt, “and we know that this isn’t a coincidence. We want to offer people the same chance our local area gave us - an opportunity to succeed.” n

Auricoe’s new platform offers an altogether different proposition. Engagement begins on day zero. Candidates select their core values, from a carefully curated list, and what really matters is what they get in return. A list of companies
