It's your second term as BC Premier. What message did you receive from British Columbians during the campaign?

In times of extraordinary change and uncertainty, British Columbians have asked us to work together to get things done that make a real difference in their daily lives. They expect us to focus on core challenges they worry about at the kitchen table— especially around the cost of living. Our government is committed to listening and learning from British Columbians from all walks of life and backgrounds. Our mandate over the next four years is to have people’s backs when things are challenging and build toward a brighter future—where everyone belongs, everyone can get ahead, and no one gets left behind.

You won with a narrow victory. Did you expect the race to be this close?

British Columbia is fortunate to have a healthy democracy, and our elections are almost always close and hard-fought. This one was no different. As British Columbians, we all want the same basic things. A good job with a paycheck that helps us save for the future. A home we can afford in a safe neighborhood. Access to a family doctor and quality health care when and where we need it. Our government will focus on these essentials so everyone—no matter where they come from or what part of B.C. they live in—can build a good life in this province.

What will be your priorities in your second term?

To deliver to British Columbians the things that matter most to them. Specifically, we will work hard daily to bring down costs for families, strengthen health care, make our communities safer, and grow a stronger economy that works for everyone. And we’re ready to work with anyone serious about solving these significant challenges. In a province as diverse as B.C., we won’t always agree, but we must recognize that we share a common future in one of the most extraordinary places in the world.

The overdose crisis has made headlines over and over. How do you hope to target the roots of addiction?

The devastating effects of the toxic drug crisis have impacted a large part of B.C. We’re committed to continuing action on all fronts to save lives and get people treatment so they can recover. At the same time, people deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods. We will work with police to fight drug trafficking, seize proceeds of crime, and put criminals behind bars. We’re going to respond to those with severe addictions and brain injuries who can’t make decisions about their care and intervene to get them the support they need.

By proposing to cut the carbon tax if the federal backstop is removed, aren’t you supporting the fossil fuel industry and overlooking its impact on climate change?

In B.C., we see the impacts of climate change in the billions of dollars we’ve spent battling forest fires, in

the hundreds of lives lost to extreme heat, and in the unique places changed forever. But the cost of inaction on climate change isn’t just environmental; it’s also economic. The transition from fossil fuels to clean energy is a generational opportunity we must seize. That's why our government remains deeply committed to fighting climate change in a way that grows our economy, keeps costs down for families, and makes sure big industrial polluters pay their fair share.

delivering results on these kitchen table issues. I’m confident we will find common ground across party lines to get things done for British Columbians.

With the healthcare crisis South of the Fraser, will Surrey get the second hospital promised during former Premier John Horgan’s term?

There’s no question that we’re facing big challenges in health care. These pressures are not unique to B.C., but how we respond is. In the last year alone, we’ve attracted 800 new family doctors and attached more than 250,000 people to a primary caregiver. We’ve hired over 45,000 healthcare workers in the last four years, with a plan to hire thousands more. In Surrey, construction is underway on a new hospital after we broke ground last year. We’re also building a new acute care tower at Surrey Memorial Hospital and a new medical school at SFU’s Surrey campus to train the next generation of family doctors. And we know there’s a lot more to do.

With party leader Sonia Furstenau out of the legislature, what role will the BC Greens play in the caucus, given their key support in helping the BC NDP form government in 2017?

Our BC NDP team and the Green Party share many common values. We built our continent-leading climate action plan together, and I look forward to building on that solid foundation. Sonia also spoke passionately about the need to change our healthcare system to ensure it is focused on delivering for patients and frontline workers. As I am with all MLAs, I am eager to work with the Green Party caucus to deliver tangible results.

BC NDP MLA Garry Begg is credited with securing your narrow majority. He describes himself as a bridge builder in his diverse community. How significant was his win, and how do you plan to build these connections?

Garry Begg is an integral part of our team, and I’m grateful to the people of Surrey-Guilford for sending him back to the legislature. Garry spent 40 years as a senior RCMP officer, working to build safer communities in Surrey and B.C. That perspective is more important now than ever as we work to fight gang and gun violence. Garry also brings people of different backgrounds together, an ability incredibly valuable to our team. You can expect him to play a significant role in our government moving forward.

What's your message to the South Asian community?

How will you collaborate with BC Conservative MLAs in caucus despite your party's differing views on many issues?

British Columbians have sent a clear message that they expect us to work together. While we may sometimes disagree on how to get there, we all agree there’s a lot more to do to bring down costs for families, deliver homes people can afford, and make sure health care is available when needed. I’m eager to work with anyone in the legislature serious about

The many contributions of the South Asian community have been critical to building British Columbia, and you will play a huge role in our province’s future. Everywhere I go, I see innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship that makes us stronger. At the same time, I know you’re facing tough challenges. Working to solve your big problems is what drives me. It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. Over the next four years, our team will work hard every day to bring people together, listen to you, and deliver results that make your life better. That’s my commitment to you.

rt is a medium that reveals to the world the intricate imagination of an artist's mind. Amandeep Singh, popularly known as Inkquisitive, is a visual artist whose journey from a small town, Chigwell, in England, to global recognition is nothing short of remarkable, reflecting his deep passion and unique artistic vision. Born and raised in East London, Inkquisitive found solace in art from a young age. Although his early life may have been shaped by pressure to follow a traditional career path, his heart was always set on art.

In terms of artistic style, Inkquisitive presents a fusion of vibrant colors, intricate details, and emotional depth, bringing traditional and contemporary themes to the limelight. He details his processes for marrying the two together, “I know what excites me, what feels right, and what gives me contentment. It's more about intuition— controlled chaos, if you will. I don't intentionally try to blend styles; they just layer together naturally. Contemporary elements might come from things I see or conversations I have, while traditional aspects come from my love for using Indian inks, calligraphy, and brown sugar paper.”

Inkquisitive’s work often explores themes of identity, culture, and spirituality, resonating with audiences across the globe. The name "Inkquisitive" itself is a testament to his desire to explore the world through art. Inkquisitive discloses, “The name actually comes from my mother. She named me ‘Inkquisitive’ because she said my work poses questions and I love using inks, so she gave me that eureka moment.”

INKQUISITIVE THE BOUNDLESS ART OF

It was during university, when study ing illustration, that Inkquisitive began experimenting with digital art, blend ing traditional techniques with modern technology. Eventually, when Inkquisitive began sharing his work on social media, a breakthrough happened. Platforms like Instagram became his gallery, allowing him to reach a global audience.

The first person to share the brilliant creative’s work was actually Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, followed by LL Cool J and Missy Elliott. Soon enough, his artwork also caught the eye of legendary artists like Drake, The Weeknd, and J Cole. These collaborations helped to propel his career, bringing his art to an even larger audience. His bold use of color and emo tionally charged imagery quickly garnered attention, and his following grew exponen tially.

The accomplished artist recalls, “I remember when Instagram first came out, and I was one of the first artists to use the platform to share my work. Although I count my blessings every day and am genuinely thankful for all my followers, it’s not why I do what I do. I never started this journey seeking likes or applause. I create because I have a calling, and sometimes it’s so loud that I just have to pick up a pen. So, it means a lot even if someone looks at my work for just five seconds. That said, I’m not counting likes; I’m counting what comes from the heart.”

Despite his success, Inkquisitive remains grounded and committed to using his platform to inspire others. He speaks

about the importance of staying true to oneself and following one’s passion despite obstacles and controversies, “Criticism can arise from different interpretations of my work, but I never intend to offend anyone or cast a dark cloud over any community. Everyone has an opinion, and so do I. Some people tweet, write poetry, or sing to express their views; I happen to paint mine. Most of the time, people are supportive. However, there are always two sides to a story, and whether my work becomes controversial isn't something I decide. At the end of the day, people will always have something to say, which they are absolutely entitled to, but I never forget my vision, which is to create artwork.”

Inkquisitive’s work is also deeply spiritual. He often incorporates elements of Sikhism into his art. This spiritual connection adds another layer of depth and soul to his work as he continues to speak up against injustices across communities, “My Gurus stood for injustices, and I do the same, except they did it with a sword, and I do it with a pen.” His art serves as a bridge between cultures, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of his identity and the broader human experience. Beyond the canvas, falling in love, becoming a husband to Mundheep—who is also a content creator and talented baker—and, now, fatherhood are all life-changing experiences that have influenced his perspective on art and life. He elaborates, “You put ink on paper, and it spreads, grows, and becomes a masterpiece; I’ve seen that through my daughter, Roux. There’s a new understanding and learning every day, and it’s played a beau-

tiful part in my artistic journey. I now pay more attention to the elegance of creating art. The way I hold my child is how I delicately hold my paintbrush or calligraphy pen.”

Undoubtedly, from sell-out exhibitions to inspiring the next generation and bringing families together through art, Inkquisitive’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, authenticity, and creativity. Today, he continues to inspire countless others to pursue their dreams, reminding us all of the importance of staying inquisitive about the world around us, “So what if you’ve been told to paint the sun, and you draw it as a triangle? That’s the reason yours will stand out. Break the rules, have fun, and be confident in your decisions. The whole purpose of art is to bring out the hidden corners of your mind and brain. This is what mine looks like— very colorful!”

NAINA BATRA

INSPIRING HEARTS THROUGH DANCE

Over the years, I’ve noticed that dances resonate when they come from a genuine place. For me, my wedding performances come from a space of joy and excitement, and I try not to let any stress or pressure interfere with that. I believe audiences connect with authenticity."

Naina Batra, a well-known choreographer and dancer, has captured the hearts of millions with her Bollywood dance style. With over 1 million followers on YouTube, amassing over 200 million views, and more than 300,000 followers on Instagram, her passion for dance led to global recognition. Born and raised in Punjab, Batra discovered her love for Bollywood dance when she was just 7 years old. At age 10, she moved to California, where she continued to pursue her passion. Performing at local events, she quickly garnered attention, eventually becoming a celebrated name in the dance community. Despite being a self-trained dancer, Batra’s choreography first gained wider acclaim with her Barso Re performance during her university days. However, it was her wedding dance to Nai Jaana in 2017 that indeed went viral, sparking a trend for bridal performances. In 2019, Batra’s performance at a friend's sangeet to Patt Le Gaya yet again became a sensation, creating another wedding dance trend.

Batra describes her approach to creating such memorable routines, “Over the years, I’ve noticed that dances resonate when they come from a genuine place. For me, my wedding performances come from a space of joy and excitement, and I try not to let any stress or pressure interfere with that. I believe audiences connect with authenticity. When they see me dancing without hesitation, just being myself, that strikes a chord. It’s not about chasing trends, but about creating something real and heartfelt.”

While Batra is known for her choreography and dance, she also balances a career as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Batra explains that both physiotherapy and dance have always been about balancing her priorities as they evolve through different stages of life. Now, as a new mother, the dynamic has shifted further. Working part-time as a physiotherapist and being a full-time mom naturally leaves less time for dance. However, even when life gets hectic, Batra ensures that dance still has a place in her routine.

Over the years, Batra has also found immense joy in teaching dance, reaching students globally through workshops and virtual classes. The personal connections she has built with her community have been a source of fulfillment. Batra highlights, “Some of the most rewarding moments in my journey have come from the incredible support of my loyal fans. While positive comments on social media are always appreciated, nothing compares to meeting my “Naach Fam” in person, whether it’s during workshops or even randomly around town. When someone stops to express their appreciation for my work, it truly touches me.”

Seeing the pride in her parents’ eyes as they witnessed her growing influence has also been a deeply meaningful experience for Batra. With her global reach and ability to connect with people through dance, she has established herself as more than just a performer—she’s an inspiration. Looking ahead, she is excited to explore new creative projects and collaborations. Her goal is to continue evolving, incorporating diverse dance styles and cultural elements into her work.

Undoubtedly, Naina Batra remains committed to sharing the true essence of dance. Her art has not only guided her success but has also made her a cherished figure in the dance community. As she continues to inspire and connect with dance enthusiasts worldwide, Naina Batra’s story remains a testament to the power of passion, authenticity, and the magic of dance.

“I remember how happy Dad made people with his food. He used to cater for huge Indian weddings of 500 people, and people would check his availability before setting their wedding dates! That’s how I decided I’d like to share the happiness of my father and mother’s food."

Anjula Devi has redefined what Indian cuisine can be—not just flavorful but also quick, healthy, and accessible. From her humble beginnings in Southall to her celebrated role as a consultant chef at the iconic Manchester United, as well as her work as an author and entrepreneur, her journey is a testament to her deep passion for South Asian culinary heritage. Known for her innovative approach, she has often been lauded for championing traditions while catering to modern tastes.

As we connected with the polymath chef, gearing up for the release of her much-anticipated book, 15-Minute Indian, we delved into her inspirations and culinary secrets behind her vibrant recipes—each one poised to transform home kitchens across the world.

Anjula’s love for cooking was nurtured in her childhood, where her father, an exceptional chef himself, played a pivotal role. “My father taught me to cook when I was 8,” she reminisced. “I remember how happy Dad

made people with his food, which had both South Asian and Kenyan influences, as he was raised in Nairobi. He used to cater for huge Indian weddings of 500 people, and I was his ‘right-hand woman.’ People would check his availability before setting their wedding dates! I remember one day, the bride's father told my father his food was ‘fit for the Gods.’ I decided that I’d like to share the happiness of my father and mother’s food. I keep their memory alive with my Sunday story time on Instagram.”

Her culinary journey is nothing short of inspiring. Transitioning from running her own Indian catering company to becoming the culinary maestro at the legendary football club was a path paved with determination.

“My driving force was the desire to share more of my father’s food with as many people as possible,” she shared. “Six thousand people sit down to eat inside the stadium on match day. It took tenacity and perseverance initially. After sending several emails to the Executive Chef, he finally agreed to see me. And the rest, as they say, is history. I am now in my seventh season. I’ve expanded the menu to include a range of authentic Indian dishes and taught many non-Indian chefs to cook delicious Indian food.”

With her one-pan recipe book 15-Minute Indian on the horizon, Anjula is excited to introduce readers to a fresher take on Indian cuisine. “I think that this book completely changes the dial on Indian food. It features over 90 recipes showcasing healthier food, which is created in 15 minutes. It’s a lighter and fresher approach to Indian cooking, with shorter ingredient lists and simpler methods.”

Juggling multiple projects successfully, the all-rounder says, “I have to mention 15-Minute Indian, which is still all-consuming as we approach February’s launch date. I’m currently working selectively with several great brands that match my beliefs and values. I always try to maintain a good balance in life—work and fun! I’ve learned over the years that life is too short, and family has always been so very important to me.”

Anjula Devi’s journey is a flavorful tapestry woven with love, tradition, and innovation. As she prepares to share her culinary secrets through her new title, she is set to inspire home cooks everywhere to embrace the joy of “flash cooking” while honoring their heritage. With each vibrant recipe, she invites us all to create and share the happiness that comes from good food—just as her father did so many years ago.

MAXIMIZE YOUR A PRODUCTIVITY A WINTER GUIDE TO STAYING

FOCUSED AND ENERGIZED

s the days grow shorter and cooler in the winter, maintaining productivity and motivation can be challenging. The transition to the subdued tones of winter often brings a shift in energy levels, which can affect our work performance. To stay on track, it is essential to adapt your strategies and create an environment that supports both your physical and mental well-being.

A key element of staying productive during the winter months is setting clear, achievable objectives. Senior Strategy Manager at TELUS, Zoha Tariq (CPA), shares, "As the end of the year approaches, it’s natural to feel pressure to meet end-of-year goals. Sometimes, we also tend to overcommit to try and make up for lost time, especially if we took vacations. However, setting realistic boundaries and respecting the balance between work and life is crucial to avoid burnout." Taking stock of your energy levels and personal commitments, especially during the onset of the holiday season, allows you to manage expecta-

tions effectively and prevent exhaustion. Breaking your day into distinct parts can also help you stay focused and energized. Tariq suggests dividing the day into morning work commitments, a midday outdoor break, and afternoon or evening tasks; this approach helps to avoid overworking and boosts energy. In the winter, when the days are shorter, it’s even more important to make time for activities that excite and rejuvenate you. Whether it’s going to the movies, enjoying winter festivals, or simply stepping outside for fresh air, these small breaks from work can make a big difference in maintaining motivation.

As the end of the year approaches, it’s natural to feel pressure to meet end-of-year goals. Sometimes, we also tend to overcommit to try and make up for lost time, especially if we took vacations. However, setting realistic boundaries and respecting the balance between work and life is crucial to avoid burnout.”

Moreover, with the lines between home and work blurred post-COVID, creating a comfortable and efficient workspace is more important than ever. Tariq emphasizes the importance of an ergonomic desk setup, including a chair and accessories that reduce physical strain. "I also ensure my desk is near a window to get natural light and take mini breaks to look outside," she adds. Refreshing your workspace periodically, such as moving plants or rearranging your desk, can also help keep your environment stimulating. The seasonal change may just be a nudge to change your work habitat as well!

Work-life balance is another crucial productivity factor. Setting clear expectations with your team regarding your working hours and using calendar blockers to manage breaks can help you maintain this balance. Turning off work-related notifications after hours

Overall, balance is the magic ingredient in having a rewarding winter and ensuring that the colder months become an opportunity for growth. As the days shift into a new rhythm, working with intention can be a catalyst for true renewal

As the festive season and year-end celebrations take center stage, it's easy to get swept up in the joy and excitement that fill these days. However, amidst the warmth of the holidays, it's equally important to remember events that speak to our spirit and resilience, like Shaheedi Week, or Martyrdom Week. This week of reflection helps us reconnect with the enduring principle of Chardi Kala, the relentless optimism and courage in the face of adversity. By recalling sagas of bravery, we enrich our ability to remain steadfast and positive, no matter the challenges we face.

Shaheedi Week

REMEMBRANCE SACRIFICE IN THE SPIRIT OF

Shaheedi Week commemorates the profound sacrifices made by the family of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who laid down their lives for the Sikh faith during times of great oppression. Guru Gobind Singh Ji is revered as Sarbansdani, a title that reflects his extraordinary sacrifice for humankind. Throughout his life, he displayed unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and spiritual freedom. As such, Shaheedi Week serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and devotion of these selfless martyrs. While exact dates in historical accounts may differ, each day is undoubtedly dedicated to honoring specific aspects of martyrs’ lives and the battles they bravely fought.

Day 1: December 20

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, his family, and fellow Sikhs embarked on an arduous journey from Anandpur Sahib after enduring six months of a brutal siege by the Mughal forces. The siege had depleted their resources, yet the Sikhs stood firm, eventually agreeing to leave under promises of safe passage. The departure from Anandpur Sahib was a significant moment of trial, setting the stage for the extraordinary events that followed, as Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his community faced insurmountable odds but remained committed to their values and faith.

Day 2: December 21

Despite the Mughals’ oath of safe passage, they betrayed their word and launched an attack at the Sirsa River, resulting in a heartbreaking separation of Guru

Gobind Singh Ji from his family. The chaotic crossing of the river tested the resolve of the Sikhs, as the Guru’s family and many of his followers were split apart, shining light on the cruelty of betrayal and the painful choices faced by those defending their beliefs.

Day 3: December 22

The Battle of Chamkaur Sahib began. Forty Sikhs, including Guru Gobind Singh Ji, bravely stood against an overwhelming Mughal army of 100,000 soldiers. The courage shown by these forty Sikhs in the face of such an impossible battle highlights the spirit of resilience and their willingness to defend their faith even when outnumbered. It was more than a battle of numbers; it was a battle of unwavering conviction.

Day 4: December 23

Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s eldest sons, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, attained martyrdom on the battlefield at Chamkaur Sahib, defending their faith with courage beyond their years. Baba Ajit Singh Ji, 18, and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, only 14, volunteered to fight, leaving a legacy of valor and sacrifice. Their bravery is an everlasting source of inspiration, teaching us to stand firm in the face of injustice, no matter the cost.

Day 5: December 24

The Battle of Chamkaur continued, with more Sikhs laying down their lives for their principles. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the warriors fought valiantly, demonstrating true selflessness. Their sacrifices remind us that martyrdom is not only about physical loss but about upholding the essence of righteousness and justice.

Day 6: December 25

Bibi Sharan Kaur, a true example of devotion, performed the last rites of the elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the other fallen Sikh warriors. Her act of bravery in the face of extreme danger, undertaking these rites despite the Mughal threat, was her ultimate service to those who had sacrificed their lives. Tragically, she, too, was thrown into the fire by Mughal forces, becoming a martyr. Her sacrifice adds another layer of devotion to this period, reminding us of the strength of women in history.

Day 7: December 26

Mata Gujri Ji, the mother of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, along with her grandsons Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, was captured and imprisoned in the Thanda Burj. The youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, aged 6 and 9, were brought before Wazir Khan, who attempted to entice them to leave their faith with promises of wealth and status. However, they rejected his offers, even in the face of threats of death, depicting unwavering spirit, even in captivity, teaching us that faith cannot be bought with riches or confined by any prison.

Day 8: December 27

The week of sacrifices reached its tragic peak when Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji were bricked alive for refusing to renounce their faith, and Mata Gujri Ji attained martyrdom soon after. Even at such a young age, their unwavering commitment to their principles stands as a remarkable testament to spiritual strength and conviction.

This time of reflection during Shaheedi Week serves as a poignant reminder of bravery. As we honor memories, we draw strength from their example, inspiring us to uphold the values of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness. In doing so, we not only pay tribute to martyrs’ legacies but also foster a deeper connection to our own identities and communities.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—well, the most wonderful and stressful time of the year. As we put away the Halloween decor and recover from Thanksgiving dinners, it’s time to gear up for the holiday season. While the time is one of joy and togetherness, it also brings forth unique challenges that can impact our mental health.

The American Heart Association conducted a survey on holiday stress and its impacts on health. It found that 63% of respondents felt the holiday season was more stressful than the tax season. As per the survey, the top three things that people found the most difficult to prioritize during the holidays were exercise, healthy eating, and sleep.

Surely, the holiday season often comes with the stress of managing family dynamics, financial strain, and loneliness. During the holidays, we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to show up for those around us, but this year, the challenge is for you to also show up for yourself! Here are some simple ways to practice self-care and manage holiday stress:

Be Mindful Of Healthy Eating

We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat,” and it is true. The mind-gut connection is part of the reason why, when we consume too much sugar and carbs, we don’t feel our best afterward. Try your best to plan ahead before a big holiday dinner. Focus on eating whole and unprocessed foods as much as possible. It’s okay to treat yourself a little, but try to keep it in moderation.

Move Your Body

We are all guilty of sitting too much— like binge-watching holiday movies at this time of year—and there’s nothing wrong with indulging occasionally. Schedule family walks or engage in games and activities where you can get moving.

Get Enough Sleep

While it’s tempting to stay up late enjoying time with family and friends, be sure to set boundaries for yourself and prioritize getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

Don't Overschedule Yourself

It’s hard to say no to every holiday party and dinner, but remember to check in with yourself. Do you have the capacity for everything you’re committing to? Are there situations where you can practice saying no?

Try Holidays The "Dolphin Way"!

This means not being a permissive “jellyfish” who always puts others first but also not being a solitary shark, oblivious to the needs of the group. Aim to be a collaborative, curious, and

dolphin—firm with self-care but flexible with the needs of others. Like dolphins, we humans are social beings, and feeling connected with family and friends helps keep us healthy.

The holidays are a magical time of the year. Remember, taking care of yourself helps you show up fully for others, making the season brighter for everyone around you. Make time for the things that bring you joy, whether it’s a peaceful walk, a good book, or a warm cup of tea. Filling your cup and practicing self-care will only add to the magic. Don’t forget to take care of yourself this holiday season!

Turning Compassion Into Action:

PARITOSH PANT

Of Feeding From Far Fights Hunger,

One Meal At A Time

In the early days of the global pandemic, chef and entrepreneur Paritosh Pant transformed his kitchen skills into a humanitarian mission, founding Feeding From Far to tackle hunger in India’s underserved communities. What began as a small effort to distribute meals has since grown into one of the longest-running COVID-19 hunger mitigation programs in the world, providing millions of meals to people in need.

The spark for Feeding From Far came as Pant faced an abrupt career change. In March 2020, his Mumbai-based restaurant chain, Too Much Drama, closed as lockdowns swept across the country. This venture had held unique significance for Pant, who employed

hearing-impaired staff as part of his commitment to providing equal employment opportunities. As the doors closed, Pant turned to social media to share his love of cooking. It was here, in the solitude of baking and sharing food online, that he recognized a larger purpose. “It dawned on me that instead of simply exhibiting my skills online, I had the opportunity to offer tangible assistance to people,” he recalls. This moment of introspection was a pivotal turning point, shifting Pant’s focus from culinary showcase to community outreach.

The scope of the need soon became evident. Pant began by posting on social media, offering to help those struggling during the crisis. The response

"Feeding From Far is more than an initiative; it’s a movement—a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unity, and we hope to inspire each one to live meaningfully"

was overwhelming, revealing the depth of need in slum neighborhoods where daily-wage workers suddenly found themselves without income or resources. Recognizing this urgency, Pant quickly created a network of volunteers who could help him distribute meals. “I realized that I had to exercise my power and responsibility as a privileged neighbor and citizen,” he shares. Within weeks, Feeding From Far grew into a decentralized distribution network that served as a lifeline for communities hit hardest by the pandemic.

Led by him, through his efforts, Feeding From Far today stands tall as a

beacon of respite for many and has served over 3.7 million meals to date, a testament to Pant’s vision and the dedication of his team. “I’ve always believed that if your intentions are pure, the universe will make a way for you,” Pant reflects.

Pant’s mission goes beyond immediate hunger relief; he is equally focused on building resilience within the communities he serves, empowering distressed social groups. By empowering local leaders to take ownership of food distribution efforts, Pant has created a model that fosters self-sufficiency.

“Sustainable change can be achieved by uplifting local leaders who understand the unique challenges and needs of their communities,” he explains. Through training and mentorship, Feeding From Far equips these leaders with the skills and resources needed to manage hunger relief efforts independently, ensuring that the initiative's impact continues long after its initial intervention.

Looking to the future, Pant envisions scaling Feeding From Far

through technology, expanding its reach and impact beyond borders. His team is currently working on a digital platform to streamline operations, connect donors and volunteers, and increase transparency.

“Technology can simplify the act of community welfare,” Pant notes. By incorporating digital tools such as blockchain for financial transparency and IoT systems for real-time coordination, he hopes to replicate Feeding From Far’s model in underserved communities around the world. This future vision reflects Pant’s dedication to not only addressing hunger but also creating a model for social impact that others can adapt and scale.

Pant’s journey is a powerful testament to the capacity of a single individual to drive meaningful change. “In a world where social issues often feel overwhelming, Feeding From Far is poised to be a reminder that profound change can start with a single act of kindness. By harnessing the power of community, supporting each other, and taking ownership, we can address even the most challenging problems. Feeding From Far is more than an initiative; it’s a movement—a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unity, and we hope to inspire each one to live meaningfully,” he concludes.

With each meal served, Feeding From Far continues illuminating the path toward a kinder, more inclusive world.

Paritosh’s story reminds us that, together, we can create a world where no one goes hungry, and every community has the strength to overcome adversity.

The holiday season is full of joy, food, and gatherings, but it can also be a time when health goals are often pushed aside. Between parties, family dinners, and festive treats, sticking to a fitness routine can feel like an impossible challenge. But the good news is you can absolutely enjoy the season without sacrificing your progress. By making a few strategic adjustments to your workouts and mindset, you can stay on track while still relishing everything the season has to offer. Here’s your guide to enjoying the festivities while keeping your fitness goals in check—because staying fit doesn’t mean missing out on the fun!

Pardeep Bains is a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritionist. He has trained clients for over 12 years and helped hundreds of clients achieve their fitness goals. His main objective is to help his clients become the best versions of themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Don’t Stop Working Out

As soon as the weather changes and the holiday spirit fills the air, many people lose motivation or decide, “I’ll start again in January.” But this approach can significantly set back your progress. This is where discipline becomes crucial. If you know your schedule will be hectic, focus on maintaining your current results. This way, it’ll be much easier to pick up where you left off once the family gatherings and parties wind down.

Maintain Your Fitness Regime

Maintaining your fitness routine, even during Christmas dinners and activities, doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s how to make it work:

By Pardeep Bains

Shorten Your Workouts: If you’re used to a 60-90-minute workout, reduce it to 30-40 minutes.

Adjust Your Sets: Instead of 3-4 sets

dieting during the holiday season is its ability to reduce binge behavior. Gradually increasing your calorie intake makes you less likely to feel deprived, which can often lead to overeating. Instead of a restrictive mindset that can cause cycles of indulgence and restriction, reverse dieting promotes a balanced approach. This allows you to enjoy holiday foods without losing your progress.

Stay Active With Winter Activities

We are lucky to live in a place with many options for winter activities. Below are some of the ways you can stay active during the holiday season and maybe even as a whole family:

Ice Skating: Ice skating is a great way to burn calories while enjoying the winter/holiday vibes. With many arenas creating a Christmas atmosphere, this can be an excellent outing for the family as well.

Snowshoeing: With nearby mountains like Cypress, Seymour, and Grouse, we have unique places for snowshoeing. It’s a tremendous form of cardio, similar to winter hiking. You’ll burn a lot of calories and get in plenty of steps!

Discover timeless elegance with Gopi Vaid's collection— Golconda , a fusion of opulent history and contemporary flair, celebrating India's rich heritage with intricate craftsmanship and versatile designs.

GOLCONDA COLLECTION GOPI VAID'S

Where History Meets Contemporary Chic

DARPAN Style

Renowned couturier Gopi Vaid needs no introduction. A favorite among all A-listers, exquisite Gopi Vaid designs have graced the likes of Shilpa Shetty, Ananya Panday, Kriti Sanon, Vidya Balan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Rakul Preet Singh, Diana Penty, Madhuri Dixit and many more. With a deep commitment to preserving the legacy of Indian crafts and empowering Indian artisans, Gopi Vaid and her eponymous label seamlessly blend Indian aesthetics with modern sensibilities.

Each Gopi Vaid design is a masterpiece, where handcrafted opulence meets contemporary chic and where each stitch tells a story of lineage and love.

The label recently unveiled its collection – Golconda; the name itself evokes echoes of antiquity, conjuring visions of ancient palaces and whispered secrets. Inspired by vintage weaves and India’s richest sultanate, the edit is a luminous tribute to the past, rendered anew.

DARPAN Style

“Golconda is a name that captures our imagination with stories of India’s strength and glory, a time of jewels and kings, beauty and riches,” the designer reflects upon her collection poetically. She adds, “It has been a mesmerizing journey to explore the ‘Golconda Weaves,’ and the collection is inspired by the exquisite vintage weaves and treasures of India’s richest sultanate. We have taken the opulent threads of history and transformed them into contemporary silhouettes that breathe new life into classical romance. The collection pays homage to and draws inspiration from the rich artisanal wealth of yesteryear while seamlessly blending tradition with modernity. By infusing youthful, globally appealing silhouettes into these timeless fabrics, our collection gives relevance to India’s rich past.”

Drawing inspiration from the rich Nizami heritage, Golconda stands as designer Gopi Vaid's most ambitious collection to date. With Golconda, Gopi Vaid embarks on a sartorial journey, celebrating both contemporary style and heritage. The collection showcases intricate artisanship, with Gopi Vaid weaving her magic through silhouettes that transcend time.

“From the classic grace of saris and lehengas to the contemporary edge of our ensembles, our collection embraces diversity and versatility,” explains Gopi. Further speaking about the vibrant color palette, she says, “The palette of vibrant reds, passionate oranges, happy limes, rich purple and alluring rani pink are the perfect curation for bold, joyous festivities, while the timeless language of black and white bears testament to eternal elegance and grace.”

Since its inception in 2003, the Gopi Vaid label has been dedicated to crafting designer clothing that is not only beautiful but also easy to wear and long-lasting. With a family background in the textile industry, the brand ensures that only the finest fabrics are utilized, never compromising quality. Many karigars currently collaborating with the brand come from generations of craftsmen who once worked for Gopi Vaid's mother's atelier. Through the brand's designs, creative aesthetics harmonize with the artistry of these craftsmen, resulting in intricate pieces that embody the ethos of the Gopi Vaid label. Golconda epitomizes this philosophy, with its soul lying in its meticulous craftsmanship.

Speaking about the artistry behind Golconda, Gopi says, “Exquisite embroideries in tones of gold and silver, embellished with shimmering sequins and colored threads, pick up classic motifs in beautiful layouts. Delicate marodi work, complemented by touches of gota and thread, adds another layer of depth to this collection. Moreover, the sparkle of diamonds in the embellishments and trims infuses glamour while lending the collection a contemporary allure.”

An ode to elegance, Golconda is a captivating collection that captures the essence of India’s rich past while embracing the spirit of today in the timeless romance of fashion.

Curated for the modern-day woman, the Golconda collection is available on Gopi Vaid’s official website and at select offline stores like Pernia's Pop-Up Shop, AZA, Ensemble, and Ogaa. The collection is priced from INR 18,500 onwards.

Butter Chicken Daryaganj

Ingredients Directions

For the chicken marinade:

• 28 oz boneless and skinless chicken thigh or breast cut into bite-sized pieces

• ½ cup plain yogurt

• 1 ½ tablespoons garlic minced

• 1 tablespoon ginger minced

• 2 teaspoons garam masala

• 1 teaspoon red chili powder

• Salt to taste

For the sauce:

• 4 tablespoons ghee or butter

• 1 large onion diced

• 1 ½ tablespoons garlic peeled

• 1 tablespoon ginger peeled and chopped

• 1 ½ teaspoons garam masala

• 14 oz fresh tomatoes diced

• 1/3 cup cashews

• 1 teaspoon green cardamom

• 1 teaspoon red chili powder

• Salt to taste

• 1 cup heavy cream

• 1 tablespoon honey

• ½ teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves

• In a bowl, combine chicken with all the ingredients for the marinade; marinate for 30 minutes to an hour (or overnight if time allows).

• Cook chicken in a tandoor or a barbeque for that charred flavor. Alternatively, heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When sizzling, add chicken pieces in batches of two or three and fry until brown. Set aside and keep warm.

• Heat butter or ghee in the same pan. Add everything except cream and fenugreek leaves. Let it cook until it starts to sweat while scraping up any browned bits stuck on the bottom.

• Add 2 cups of water and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, occasionally stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes a deep brown-red color.

• Remove from heat, scoop mixture into a blender, and blend until smooth. Pass the blended sauce through a sieve and pour the sauce back into the pan. Stir in the cream and crushed fenugreek leaves. Add the chicken with juices back into the pan and cook for an additional 8-10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce is thick and bubbling.

• Garnish with cilantro and serve with fresh, hot garlic butter rice and fresh homemade naan!

Fish Tikka Kasundi

Ingredients

• 500 gms Cod Filet

• 1/2 cup hung yogurt

• 3 tablespoons kasundi paste (fermented mustard paste)

• 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

• 2 tablespoons lemon juice

• 20 ml cream

• Salt to taste

• 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

• 1/2 tablespoon dry mango powder

• 1/2 tablespoon chaat masala

• 1 teaspoon yellow chilli powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoons green chilli paste

• 2 tablespoon mustard oil

Directions

• For Kasundi Paste: Add yellow and black mustard seeds, ginger, green chilies, turmeric powder, salt, and sugar to a food processor. Pulse it to get a coarse powder, add 1/4 cup water and pulse again to get a nice paste. Add vinegar and lemon juice and pulse again. Kasundi paste can be bought at a store as well.

• For Fish Tikka: Wash the fish filets and pat them dry. Marinate them in ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, green chili paste, and salt, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

• Add hung yogurt to a bowl. Add the Kasundi paste, dry mango powder, salt, yellow chili powder, black pepper powder, chaat masala, and turmeric and mix well. Pour hot mustard oil and mix again. Squeeze out excess water from the fillets and coat with the marination.

• Cook in a tandoor; alternatively, thread the fish pieces on a wooden skewer and place them on a heated grill pan. Keep brushing with butter. Once cooked, pair with your favorite chutney and enjoy!

There is an undeniable magic to Christmas that sweeps across the globe, filling every corner with warmth and wonder. And while cozying up in festive pajamas with a cup of hot chocolate, enjoying time with loved ones is often considered the ideal yuletide tradition, experiencing how different cities transform into winter wonderlands has a charm of its own. Imagine sipping mulled wine at a bustling Christmas market or catching a glimpse of Santa gliding over a moonlit lake— Sounds magical already, right? Well, here’s a list of the world’s most enchanting places to experience Christmas this year.

Montreux, Switzerland

Renowned as the “Pearl of Lake Geneva,” Montreux transforms into a fairy-tale village during its month-long festivities, locally known as Montreux Marche de Noel. At the heart of it is the largest openair Christmas market stretching along the shimmering shores of Lake Geneva. The scent of spiced mulled wine fills the air, blending with aromas of roasted chestnuts and warm gingerbread, creating a festive spirit that feels timeless. But what truly sets Montreux Marche De Noel apart is Santa flying over Lake Geneva in his sleigh, a mesmerizing spectacle that feels straight out of a Christmas storybook. Visitors can also take train rides to Rochers de Naye Mountain to Santa’s house, which offers magical views.

Auckland, New Zealand

If cozying up by a fireplace isn’t your idea of yuletide fun, Auckland’s sun-soaked Christmas will surely warm your festive vibe. Since New Zealand is on the other side of the planet, Christmas for Kiwis is a unique blend of sun, sea, and Santa, with festive picnics under New Zealand’s special Christmas trees with red flowers—the Pohutukawa trees. Considered sacred to the Māori culture, these trees add a gorgeous red summery cheer to Auckland’s Christmas. Enjoy the iconic Santa Parade, a merry display with colorful floats, and the Sky Tower Observatory, which offers 360-degree jaw-dropping views of the gleaming city below. For a real Kiwi-style Christmas twist, one can head to the beach for Auckland’s legendary Christmas Eve beach parties.

Quebec City, Canada

Want to celebrate Xmas European style but hate long flights? Well, head straight to the gorgeous French-speaking Quebec City, which offers a Christmas experience that rivals even major European towns. Nothing embodies the festive spirit like the Christmas market and Quebec City has not one, but two lively Xmas markets—The German Christmas Market and the Grand Christmas Market, where wooden stalls with live music, mulled wine, holiday treats, and artisanal crafts invite you to wander and wonder. There is also the Château de Père Noël by the Château Frontenac, where Santa himself greets everyone, and not to miss is the grand Toboggan Festival, which takes place between December 28 to 31.

Rome, Italy

A Roman holiday is always mesmerizing, and the ancient city transforms into an eternal enchantment during Christmas. With the Vatican City nestled within its bounds, Rome’s festivities are not only magical but also profoundly sacred. The life-size nativity set up at Saint Peter’s Square, with an astonishing Christmas tree, and the Christmas Eve Mass at the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica is an experience beyond words. Rome’s Christmas markets are the perfect spot to tantalize your tastebuds with Italian delicacies and the quintessential Italian Christmas treat—panettone. For something unique, head to Villa Borghese for ‘Christmas World,’ an immersive festival with live performances, ice skating, and a captivating display of Christmas traditions from around the globe.

Lapland, Finland

It is hard to imagine a place more enchanting than this Arctic wonderland for celebrating the holiday season. Beautifully adorned snow-covered Christmas trees, streets sparkling with twinkling lights, and the chance to cross paths with Santa himself—Christmas magic is happening at every bend, and Lapland offers a perfect postcard-worthy setting for a surreal celebration. Visit Santa in his hometown in Rovaniemi, click selfies with the Jolly Man, explore his workshops, mail off wish lists from his post office, and even hop on a reindeer sleigh ride. You can even feed Rudolph here and learn about the Sámi people's deep connection to these gentle animals. End your night in a glass-roofed igloo, gazing up at the mesmeric northern lights as Christmas carols play softly in the air.

Q: How did you two meet, and what was your first impression of each other?

We met in 2018 at BCIT in Vancouver while taking finance courses. JC had just moved from Toronto to pursue his business degree. Our connection started during study sessions and coffee breaks, where we discovered our shared interests and chemistry. Over time, we went from classmates to friends and, eventually, partners for life. Looking back, we’re so grateful that our paths crossed in that busy classroom, setting the stage for our beautiful journey together.

Q: Can you share the story of your proposal/engagement? Was it a grand surprise or a quiet, intimate moment?

JC proposed to me in Pasadena, LA, during a special trip we had planned. We decided to do a photo shoot, and little did I know what was coming. As we were walking around, JC seemed a bit nervous, but I didn’t think much of it. Then, we stopped at a beautiful spot, and suddenly, he got down on one knee. I was utterly taken by surprise! He asked me to marry him, and I was overwhelmed with joy and surprise. It felt surreal as I looked at the ring and then into his eyes, realizing how much thought and effort he had put into this moment.

Q: Describe your wedding day for us. Did you have a favorite part of the wedding?

Jaskaran: Our wedding day was nothing short of magical. We chose to have a Sikh outdoor ceremony at a beautiful farm, and every detail came together perfectly. The weather was simply perfect—bathed in sunshine and adorned with a gentle breeze, it provided a breathtaking backdrop for our special day. The vibrant colors and intricate details reflected our culture and love, making everything feel so personal. From the floral arrangements to the little details, every element was thoughtfully designed and added to the overall atmosphere of joy and celebration.

Jaskaran&Muskan

Muskan: My favorite part of the day was the Laavan. As we circled the Guru Granth Sahib, I felt an overwhelming connection to JC and our families. The chants filled the air with love and spirituality, making the moment even more meaningful. It was a beautiful representation of our commitment to each other and our shared journey ahead.

Q: Tell us more about your reception.

Two weeks after our wedding day, we celebrated our reception in Toronto, Ontario. Since JC was born and raised there, hosting our celebration in his hometown felt special. We wanted to create a memorable experience for our family and friends, and Toronto was the perfect place to do just that. One of our favorite parts of the reception was the speeches. Hearing heartfelt words from our loved ones made me realize how much support we have as we begin this new chapter together. It was a mix of laughter and happy tears, and it truly brought everyone closer.

Q: How did you choose your wedding attire for the both of you?

I wanted to embody the beauty of a traditional red bride, so I chose a stunning outfit by Rimple and Harpreet Narula. When I finally tried on my chosen outfit, I knew it was the

one. The rich red fabric, adorned with beautiful embroidery, was a perfect blend of tradition and style, and I could already imagine how stunning it would look on my wedding day. To make the experience even more meaningful, I visited India with my parents for wedding shopping. It was a wonderful opportunity to immerse myself in the culture and traditions that are so important to us.

Q: Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

Looking back at our wedding, one thing I would do differently is to stress less and focus on enjoying the moment more. Amid the planning and preparations, I found myself overwhelmed by the details, which sometimes took away from the joy of the occasion. By prioritizing enjoyment over perfection, you have a better chance of creating lifetime memories!

Q: How does it feel to be married, and what are you most looking forward to in this new chapter together?

Being married feels incredibly fulfilling and joyful. A deep sense of connection and partnership comes with sharing your life with someone you love. It’s comforting to know that you have a teammate with whom you can navigate the ups and downs of life. Every day feels like an adventure as

we create new memories together. There are also moments of growth and learning as we adapt to each other’s habits and preferences. But through it all, the love and commitment we share make every challenge worthwhile.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Focus on what truly matters to you both. It’s easy to get caught up in the details and opinions of others, but remember that this day is a celebration of your love and commitment. Communicate openly with each other about your vision, priorities, and any traditions important to you. Choose elements that reflect your personality and relationship. Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the process! Planning a wedding can be stressful, but take moments to savor the experience together. After all, the love you share makes the day special, not just the celebration itself.

Based on the standard 11th-gen Civic, aesthetically, the Japan-designed car is much tamer than its predecessor with fewer extraneous vents, faux carbon fiber trim, and general busyness. Going back to the earlier roots of an “OEMplus” look, there’s a black mesh grille, subtly-vented aluminum hood, smoked head and tail lamp lenses, center triple-exit exhaust tips, GT-style spoiler, and, of course, red badging.

Careful attention has been paid to preserving the sporty heritage of former iterations. For example, the iconic red upholstery and carpet, serialized plate on the dash, and teardrop aluminum knob pay homage to past models. The microfiber body-stabilizing seats are supportive but lack any adjustable lumbar support, proving tough on extended drives for aging enthusiasts suffering from a bad lower back (such as myself).

MERCEDES-BENZ CLE 300 CABRIOLET

MSRP: $87,450

MOTOR: 2.0-LITER MILD-HYBRID INLINE-FOUR HORSEPOWER: 255 @ 5,800 RPM

TORQUE (LB-FT): 295 @ 2,000 RPM

GEARBOX: NINE-SPEED AUTOMATIC

LAYOUT: FRONT-ENGINE, ALL-WHEEL DRIVE

FUEL ECONOMY: 11.7 L/100 KM MIXED CITY/ HIGHWAY (OBSERVED)

Thanks to models like the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, open-air motoring doesn’t have to end in early fall.

Combining the two-door versions of the C-class and E-class in this all-new offering, the result is a sleek four-seater with a slick electric soft top that truly allows it to be driven daily year-round. The stubby “shark nose” front end, flat smoked LED headlights, and low-slung hood provide an undeniably sporty look. The near-flush frameless grille houses a large central roundel and single signature blade, intersecting several repeating 3D three-pointed star logos also found dotting the black bumper trim.

The rear is equally as smooth, boasting connected taillamps, a seamless

bumper, and dual chrome trapezoidal exhaust outlets. Our loaner had the AMG Line package equipped (+ $3,500), bundling larger central air intakes, larger brakes, 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and more.

Putting the roof up or down is as simple as holding down a button on the center console. The total operation time is 20 seconds, and it can be done at speeds up to 60 km/h. There is another button to deploy the AIRCAP electric wind deflector system, as seen previously on other convertibles in the lineup, comprised of a spoiler above the windshield and a wind blocker behind the rear headrests.

Activating the set prevents swirling air in the cabin, keeping the environment much warmer and quieter

than it would be without it. In addition, the AIRSCARF heating function keeps the neck area toasty for occupants when the temperature drops outside.

Possessing a 2,865-millimeter wheelbase, which is 25 millimeters longer than the outgoing C-Class Cabriolet, the rear bench is now actually usable for adults. The 14 millimeters of extra leg room, 22 millimeters of extra shoulder room, and 17 millimeters of extra elbow room make a big difference, and I could even fit a child seat back there comfortably. Similarly, the trunk is quite spacious for the segment and can accommodate 385 liters of cargo (295 if the top is stowed).

The white-leather-upholstered Multicontour front seats (+ $1,200) were quite comfortable and supportive and featured some of the most aggressive adjustable lumbar I’ve come across yet—great for aging enthusiasts such as myself. The settings are found in a sub menu on the 11.9-inch portrait infotainment display, so don’t bother hunting for a physical switch. If you find direct sunlight causing glare on the screen, the entire panel is tiltable.

In Canada, the CLE utilizes a single powertrain option: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylin der mated to a nine-speed automatic transmis sion, producing 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The peppy engine is smooth and quiet at cruising speeds, with a pleasant subtle exhaust note at heavy acceleration.

The motor also incorporates mild hybrid technology comprising an integrated starter-generator and 48-volt onboard electri cal system that can temporarily boost up to 23 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque during ac celeration and reduces fuel use during coasting to improve efficiency.

I had a great time tossing the vehicle into corners, as the aforementioned AMG Line pack includes sports suspension. Compared to the softer standard comfort setup, stiffer springs and dampers keep all four wheels planted without making the ride harsh.

Built at the brand’s Breme, Germany plant, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 4MATIC is sold in a hardtop Coupe form factor as well. In stores now.

ELECTRIFIED RETURN OF THE CLASSIC

fter disappearing from the Canadian market for five years, the Fiat 500 has returned—in zero-emissions form.

“What we do that's really fun about EVs is we take cars, and we make EVs—we don't have to design something that looks like a jelly bean or a fish. We want to take designs that work, make them applicable, and then make them electric,” says Aamir Ahmed, head of Fiat North America, during a recent media presentation in Vancouver. He adds, “From the ground up, it’s a brand-new car. Dimensionally, this vehicle is very similar to the car it replaced.”

Called the 500e, the subcompact is actually marginally larger than the former model, measuring approximately 61 millimeters longer and 56

millimeters wide. The wheelbase is 22 millimeters long as well, translating into a little extra passenger space in the cabin. Visually, the hatchback retains the cute rounded appearance and sloping rear end with some enhancements, like 500 numbering across the grille, half-moon LED headlights, 3D LED taillights, flush door handles, and bigger 17-inch wheels.

The interior also gets a significant glow-up, made more impressive considering the vehicle is being positioned as the lowest MSRP BEV in Canada. For example, there’s a neat flat-bottom two-spoke steering wheel paying homage to the original 1957 Fiat 500, and the same Uconnect 5-powered 10.25 infotainment display found in the Maserati MC20 supercar courtesy of

the parent company Stellantis’ trickle-down effect. The seven-inch instrument panel is fully digital, and even the door handle has been swapped out in lieu of a touch release button.

Redesigned door panels and the center console provide much-needed additional storage space and a wireless charging pad underneath the screen. The seating position is still curiously high, but fortunately, the driver’s side is six-way adjustable while the passenger’s is four-way. Fiat says the fabric is made from recycled materials.

A single 87-kilowatt electric motor spins the front wheels, and though it only produces 117 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, the instant-on delivery and near 3,000-pound curb weight allow for brisk acceleration and tight handling. The 42-kilowatt-hour battery is said to yield an estimated range of 240 kilometers.

I would have liked to see a more robust capacity, but at least up to 85-kilowatt Level 3 charging is supported. A full top-up plugged into a standard Level 2 (11 kilowatt) source takes around six hours. Activating the Range driving mode turns on one-pedal functionality to optimize regenerative braking, and the Sherpa mode maximizes efficiency by limiting top speed to 80 km/h and reducing output to 57 kilowatts to ensure the desired destination will be reached.

All models come equipped with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian alert, and lane keep assist. To kick off the 2024 Fiat 500e’s North American introduction, a special (RED) Edition is offered, bundling red-painted side mirrors, a diamond-cut alloy wheel design, and a red-colored dashboard. Every sale goes to support the Global Fund, supporting prevention and treatment programs for communities in need.

LUCK RUNS OUT FOR THE QUADRIFOLIGO 2024

t’s a sad day for sports sedan enthusiasts—the 2024 model year marks the end of the high-performance Quadrifoglio (Italian for fourleaf clover) variant of the Alfa Romeo Giulia. The brand is commemorating the occasion with the release of a Super Sport edition.

“A milestone for all Alfisti (Alfa fans), the new Super Sport is the ultimate expression of Quadrifoglio, represented by extremely limited volumes and bespoke design cues,” says Larry Dominique, Alfa Romeo North America senior vice president, in a media release.

He adds, “While we look forward to the future of the four-leaf clover with the amazing performance benefits of electrification, the twin-turbo V-6 Super Sport is a fitting final chapter

to the combustion engine Quadrifoglio in Canada, and we’re thrilled to bring an exclusive number to Alfisti in North America.”

Though DARPAN didn’t have access to this particular model and its special black badging and carbon fiber extras, the standard Quadrifoglio is just as exhilarating to drive and look at. The press vehicle was coated in brilliant Misano Blue Metallic paint and sat on massive 19x8.5-inch front/19x10-inch rear dark five-hole wheels.

For 2024, some nifty smoked LED adaptive matrix headlamps are housing three U-shaped signature daytime running elements, complemented by a gloss black V-Scudetto center grille surround and dark lens taillamps.

Inside, the instrument cluster is now all digital, boasting a 12.3-inch customizable screen, and is still nestled under the heritage-inspired binocular hood. The interior features a nice mix of standard leather upholstery and carbon fiber trim pieces. For an additional $4,500, buyers can opt for Sparco Alcantara race seats.

There are lots of tactile buttons and knobs on the center console—a welcome change from the touch panel-filled cabins of many modern cars—though, for its $100,000plus price tag, one might expect a larger-than 8.8-inch non-upgradable display and some more premium materials used on an otherwise fairly spartan dashboard. The flat-bottom steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters is perfect, though, and the rear seats are totally usable and are even sufficient to accommodate a child seat.

The Italian-built powerplant, however, justifies the MSRP. Possessing lineage from the Ferrari F154 engine found in products including the California T, the mill is a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 sending 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Absolutely melodic at full throttle, it will put a smile on almost any driver’s face, especially while whipping around corners, taking full advantage of the adaptive suspension system.

Like all modern Alfas, the Dynamic/ Natural/Advanced efficiency (DNA) drive mode selector changes throttle, steering, and other onboard settings to suit various moods and environments. Exclusive to Quadrifoglios, a Race setting turns everything up to 10 and is best used at a track. During a wet and rainy day, I turned the dial to A, and the Giulia behaved in a very tame fashion on a long drive to Chilliwack and back with little drama.

The 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio will remain available until inventory runs out. To inquire about the Super Sport, contact your local dealer.
