At last a real alternative to ceramic tiling!!

BUY BEFORE NEW YEAR & BEAT THE VAT INCREASE

“Our panels provide a decorative and functional finish to walls and ceilings in any room. They are however ideally suited to bathrooms and kitchens with many advantages over ceramic tiles. They are much quicker to fit, there’s no need for grout, and they offer improved insulation and will not support bacteria or mould growth!” Explains Damian Campbell, owner of Yorkshire Cladding Centre Ltd in Bradford. Damian, originally from Bingley, moved away in 2002 to Newcastle after being made redundant from the Bradford & Bingley. He worked for his cousin selling internal upvc cladding in Newcastle until May this year. After marrying his wife, Amanda in 2007, they decided to move back to Bingley in May this year as Damian missed family and friends, and this was the perfect opportunity to set up Yorkshire Cladding Centre in his local area. A superb, cost effective and more decorative alternative to tiles, decorative cladding was extremely popular in Newcastle and seeing that not many people sell this product in the Leeds/ Bradford area, Damian saw a gap in the market. “The cladding is easy to install, even the most basic DIY enthusiasts can fit it. I carry a large range of colours and styles along with assorted

finishing trims and adhesives. My showrooms have been specifically designed for people to look at what’s available and how fantastic a finished room looks. As well as bathrooms and kitchens our panels are also suitable for use in shower rooms or shower cubicles and once completed provides any room with the ‘wow’ factor!” Produced from extruded PVC with a paint and lacquer finish to the front face, the panels simply fix together in a similar way to tongue and groove timber cladding. Panels can be fixed directly to existing sound surfaces, including tiles, using a variety of building adhesives, or can be fixed mechanically (nailed, screwed or stapled) to timber battens on uneven surfaces. A visit to Damian at Yorkshire Cladding Centre is a must to see just how fabulous your rooms can look, you will also be pleased at the price!

enton Park School in Rawdon invited a number of organisations such as West Yorkshire Police, The Army, The Navy, The Fire Service and many local companies, including ourselves at MAD Publications and Printing.com, to participate in their very first Students Careers Fair, on the 29th and 30th of September. This was an exciting venture for the school, looking to inspire, motivate, educate and more importantly, give their students a head start, by preparing them for life after school. During the two day event, students were offered enhanced advice paired with practical guidance from the exhibitors, helping students to have a clearer focus than ever before, in deciding and managing their career path. From the point of view of a local business exhibiting at this event, it was inspirational and truly rewarding to be a part of such an initiative and

to be able to give something back to the youth of today, our citizens of tomorrow. Benton Park School opened its doors to a variety of organisations and businesses consisting of Education Providers and both Public and Private sector employers. Among them were such names as: Leeds Trinity College

The Old Tramshed CHANGES TRACK!

W

ith the current trend for many pubs to reinvent themselves as gastro-pubs, The Old Tramshed in Saltaire opts for a more traditional style of eating. Re-branding itself as a Freehouse and Carvery with the launch of a full carvery menu and a restyled logo to warm things up, the Old Tramshed has declared itself a gastro-free zone. The friendly welcome is still the same but the world heritage pub, which was originally an old tram shed, now boasts a newly refurbished layout to complement its newly acquired carvery status. Offering a freshly prepared selection of the

best the region can offer, the Old Tramshed believes in keeping its produce fresh and local wherever possible, supporting small and independent producers and suppliers.

General Manager, Dave Davies, commented: “After taking time to review the current market trends, we decided that the way forward for us was to provide our customers with a fresh and simple alternative. The traditional British carvery offers classic favourites with unpretentious flavours and provides us with the perfect opportunity to make good use of fresh seasonal favourites.”

“We also understand that, as a pub, we need to make sure our customers can still call in for a drink without feeling obliged to pick up a menu - and to that end, our enviable beer selection will remain just as enviable!” The Old Tramshed will continue to feature a wide range of live music and entertainment and is the only pub in Saltaire showing Sky Sports in 3D (they also offer the ‘image enhancing’ 3D eyewear for free!). The carvery will be available seven days a week from 12noon to 10pm and to prove that a change can be better than the rest.

Dave is also aware that not everyone who visits the pub will want to eat and added:

and will also be supporting local makers, schools, community groups and charities. With 3 venues - St John’s Church, The Baildon Club and the Moravian Church Hall, we can showcase them all! You will have a chance to buy some wonderful individual Christmas gifts and/or to support a local cause. in organic vegbox company Riverford’s summer challenge. The vegetables children were asked to identify included commonly available carrots, potatoes and broccoli, as well as the more unusual kohl rabi, globe artichokes and fennel. Three quarters of children said they eat at least half of the fruit and veg; 4% said they eat them all; and only 5% said they eat less than a quarter of them.

It’s official: children know their carrots from their courgettes A survey of 1,500 children around the UK has shown that it’s not all bad news when it comes to kids and vegetables. On average, children aged 3-11 recognised over 80% of fruit and veg

Riverford also quizzed kids on their favourite and least liked fruit and veg. Carrots came out on top, followed by sweetcorn and broccoli. The most disliked veg was Brussels sprouts, then courgettes. Andrew, who delivers Riverford vegboxes to families throughout North & West Yorkshire, said “We’re really encouraged that not all children think milk comes from cartons or tomatoes in tins. With kids going back to school and getting into a healthy routine after the holidays, lots of

parents will be trying to get them gobbling their greens again. “We’ve always thought that the more engaged you are with your food, the more likely you are to eat it, so we give out lots of free recipes each week to help people cook, and we encourage customers to visit our farm. These results seem to back up our theory: the children of Riverford customers ate a wider range of ‘weird’ veg than those of non-customers. “If you’re still struggling with those dreaded courgettes, see if you can win the kids over with our Chocolate Courgette Cake recipe; they’ll never believe there are vegetables hidden inside.”

The veg challenge has been taken by children at numerous shows this summer from Otley Show, The Great Yorkshire Show, Bingley Show, Halifax Show, Ripley Show and most recently at Keighley Show, the veg challenge proved very popular and got local kids thinking about where their food comes from. Riverford will be exhibiting at the West Yorkshire Organic Show on 18th September in Exhibition Hall, Saltaire as part of the Saltaire Festival the veg challenge will be their on the day for anyone wanting to test their veg knowledge. National Organic Fortnight runs from 3rd-17th September 2010. To find out more about getting engaged with your food visit www.riverford.org or www.soilassociation.org
