‘The O’ V
Bounce..... Movement.....Big Curls.....
ersatile healthy hair is now achievable!! A new product is on the market. ‘The O’ is about to revolutionise hairdressing at home and in the salon just as the perm and straighteners before it. After many years of the must have perm where curls were a part of everyday life, the perm all but disappeared along with the curls. This mainly being due to three reasons, the inflexibly of permed hair, the condition, the constant perm after perm had on your hair which has made it become lifeless, brittle and dry, and of coarse fashion, so out went the perm.
Then 10 years ago the straighteners became a huge seller and almost over night you saw flat, sleek looking hair everywhere. However once again this came at a cost to the condition of your hair, even with iron oil, protector sprays and such like products the constant flattening and straightening made the hair lifeless, brittle and dry, and in many cases caused breakage.
Well roll on 2010 and the introduction of ‘The O’. The difference..... zero damage, flexible styling and unlike past heated rollers no burnt fingers!!! ‘The O’ is a revolutionary piece of equipment with 2 parts. 1st the ‘pod’ and secondly the ‘roller’ itself. The ‘pod’ is a small unit which activates the rollers one at a time, taking just 4 seconds to work. The ‘rollers’ are Velcro designed for putting into the hair with ease with no pins needed to hold into place. But the amazing thing with them is that once activated they are cool to touch slowly releasing the heat stored giving you time to place into your hair still keeping your fingers intact.
Once you have all the required rollers in just leave for 15-20 mins then take out, dress out with hair spray and your’e ready to go with luscious, full bodied bouncy curls giving your hair lift and movement, perfect for your occasion, whether its the Cheryl Cole look, long or bob length it is all achievable.
There is no doubt this is going to be this Christmases’ must have for all you ladies. Take advantage of a great offer @ Jon Richard Hairdressing and take this coupon and receive a free trial of the revolutionary new system which includes the initial blowdry.
Once in your hair they reach their optimal temperature then they cool down quick locking in the curl, shape and volume into the hair. ‘The O’ Velcro rollers come in 5 sizes to suit most hair lengths and enables you to produce most styles. Prices for The O rollers start from £15.95 per pack. The ‘Pod’ is £149.95.

The
Perfect Shave
Ever since prehistoric man first scraped a seashell across his cheek so prehistoric woman would let him dance cheek-to-cheek, shaving has been a part of the male experience. But even with today’s high-tech razors, lots of men still get nicks, cuts, and razor burn. The latest trend in male grooming promises a better shave by going back to the old school. Q: What is the perfect shave? A: The perfect shave is what all men strive for every morning when they bring their razor up their chin – an effortless shave that’s baby smooth, and without any of the usual skin irritation, redness, and that burning sensation most guys seem to feel is par for the course when it comes to shaving. Q: What is “wet shaving” and how is it different from the way most men shave today? A: Wet shave is just what the term implies – keeping your face wet with plenty of hot water before, and during the entire shave. In fact, you should always shave after a hot shower, not before (if you need to shave without taking a shower, washing your face with hot water for a few minutes will suffice). With a layer of hot water between your skin and the lather, the blade skims the surface instead of dragging on it, which is the main cause of irritation, redness, and “shave bumps”. The hot water opens the pores of your skin and relaxes your facial muscles, and it softens your whiskers for more effective cutting. The key to proper wet shaving is keeping your face as wet as possible at all times during the shave. Even if you keep your current tools and routine, you’ll marvel at how much closer and more comfortable shaving can be when you keep your face hydrated at all times with lots of hot (not scalding) water.
6
Q: What are the basic tools you need for wet shaving? A: A good brush – and the best brushes are made of badger hair which absorbs hot water and then, after you dip the tip of the brush into your tub (yes, not a can, but a tub) the brush releases and mixes the hot water with the shaving cream as you skim the brush back and forth across your face and neck in and up-down motion. A shaving brush also gently exfoliates, or removes the dead skin from your face before shaving, which gets rid of anything coming between the blade and your whiskers. Finally, the up-down brushing lifts your whiskers and suspends them standing upright in the thick lather, which exposes the maximum whisker length to your blade as it skims along your face. The next tool you need for wet shaving is a razor. And by razor, I mean whatever high-quality, non-disposable razor you feel most comfortable with. Once you’ve got a shaving brush, a razor, and some quality shaving cream, you’ll need a sink full of hot (not scalding) water. Remove your brush from the water, hold it upside down until water stops pouring out of it, and then you’re ready to apply the cream. If you’ve got a tub of shaving cream, swirl the wet tips of your brush around in a circular motion on the surface of the cream until you get a small amount of visible white lather. After your first few shaves, you’ll begin to get a feel for how much is just right. Now you want to paint your face up and down, up and down all over the areas of your face and neck you’ll be shaving. You want to shave downward on your face and neck, with the direction your whiskers grow. At least for the first pass, if you want a closer
shave, wet your face again, lather up and shave very lightly upward, against the grain. Once you’re done shaving, rinse your face with cold water to close the pores, thoroughly rinse your shaving brush of lather and shake it dry, and store it on its handle, not lying down. This will let the bristles airdry without damaging them, so your brush will last 20 years or more. Pat, not rub, your face dry with a clean towel, and finish up with a good nonalcohol-based aftershave or moisturiser. Q: What about the good old-fashioned barber shop shave – do they still exist? A: Yes! In fact, many real barbers still offer their customers a shave with the most revered and yes, feared, of all shaving tools: the almighty “cut throat”. A barbershop shave starts with you lying back in a big leather barber chair while the barber wraps your face in hot towels to open up your pores and soften your whiskers. Then he lathers you up with a brush and cream, and masterfully guides the bare straight razor blade over your cheeks and chin so closely you can hear each whisker pop from across the room. After he’s done shaving you, he’ll wrap your face in more hot towels and then finish you off with some after-shave treatment and maybe even a wake-up nudge – contrary to what you might think, getting a really good barbershop shave is so relaxing for many men that they often fall asleep even as the straight razor is gliding over their Adam’s apple. Women looking for the perfect gift for the men in their life should look no further than a gift certificate for a barbershop shave.

Walker, general manager, her team of experts are making a major difference to their members wellbeing in fantastic innovative ways, making a difference through such initiatives as the MOT Health Assessment, a comprehensive 60 minute health evaluation with a qualified Wellbeing Advisor. The results of which are used to assess your current health status and to identify opportunities for you to improve your health, wellbeing and quality of life. The MOT test has actually identified major health concerns in some people, all easily corrected by making usually minor changes to your lifestyle, however left unchecked issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeats and high blood sugar levels could have resulted in major illness or worse. Helen explained, “There is no point in trundling through a fitness programme without knowing where you are going or what you are trying to achieve. The MOT health assessment is a great place to start.” This is just one of a number of reasons why Nuffield Health at Cottingley Manor is different, as included in your membership is also a monthly ‘Meet the Experts’ event,
where dedicated seminars are held to tackle everything from men’s health issues to general relaxation to immunisation. There is even a 3 month membership with a dedicated programme designed to manage diabetes! Is that reason enough? Jessica GELeration
Discover a World of Never Ending Colour!
Jessica gel nails, also known as GELeration, are an exciting, brand new, soft gel system which is easy to soak off and will preserve the natural nail underneath. With this new system you can experience wonderful manicure techniques with amazing long lasting colour. Personally in the job I do my hands are constantly used and somewhat abused! On a daily basis I use a keyboard (my nails take a pounding most days), I constantly handle paper and cardboard (this dries out my hands and nails), and yet I am client facing which means my hands are always on show! It has long been a frustration that I struggle to keep my nails a decent length and looking well cared for, so when I heard about Jessica GELeration I couldn’t wait to book myself in to see if the hype was justified.
The hype? Why GELeration?
GELeration is the latest gel nail system in a nail polish, which is painted on to the nails like a polish yet offers care and protection for the natural nail and lasts 2 to 3 weeks without you having to worry about how your nails look or if they will be damaged when the gel is taken off. New technology, new technique. No trauma to the natural nail, extra strength and longevity. Glides on like polish, performs like gel, is instantly dry and completely fume free! Your GELeration treatment begins with cuticle work, tiding of the nails, application of the gel and is finished with cuticle oil. With the application of the proper basecoats and correctives, a smooth ‘canvas’ is created for applying colour. Here, Jessica
stands out with extra-rich, luminous colours formulated in the most wonderful classic and fashion-aware shades. Special sealers and finishers are then used to dry and protect the manicure for up to three weeks. The result of all this attention? Growing, glowing, naturally beautiful nails with nothing artificial added. No tips or fills and no abrasive filing. Two weeks on I can confirm that the hype is true! My nails look as good as they did the day they were done, they have grown and have been much admired. Thank you Bianca at The Relaxation Spa for once again coming up trumps with yet another cutting edge treatment that has truly made a difference to my confidence!

Bingley
What a Great Da at the
Bingley B
ingley Show has always been extremely popular with people travelling from all over the region to attend and this years’ event was no different. This was much to the relief of the organisers as with the extended closure of Ireland Bridge, it was thought that exhibitor numbers may be down, however the bridge re-opened just in time and with a fabulous day of weather; Bingley Show experienced another triumphant year! New to the main ring was a crazy clown feature, which entertained the kids and adults alike. For older children the motorbike display team were back, a popular spectacle and the noise and thrills once again wowed the crowds; added to this the old favourites, the sheep dog display, falconry, heavy horses, and a riding for the disabled demonstration, plus many more attractions, made a great day out for all
10
the family. Titan the Robot was once again the main draw for children, and he also made an unexpected appearance at the Airedale Agricultural Society Lunch, which went down a storm with the dignitaries, Titans cheeky charm winning everyone over! Personally our favourite attractions were the sheep shearing Australian with the dancing sheep, who also educated his audience as to the reasons why sheep are sheared – he brought out the child in everyone in a very clever and entertaining way. There were also some marvellous old cars on show, each having been lovingly restored and kept in pristine condition by the owners. I absolutely loved the Bubble Car which brought back fond childhood memories of riding around in my elderly Auntie’s many years ago. I would love to get my hands on one now! The prize bulls on show had to be seen to be believed, huge muscular beasts so ripped they would have given Arnold Schwarzenegger
y Show
ay Out e Bingley Show in his prime a run for his money, and they were in their element being groomed and pampered in readiness for their audience and judging panel. There was so much to do and see, it’s easy to understand the passion people have for Bingley Show, and that’s not just local people as many travel from far and wide for this excellent day.
Next year the show day has changed to a Saturday so watch out for details and make sure you purchase your tickets early to avoid queuing at the gates. You will also save on the ticket price by buying them in advance.

Yorkshire business woman and founder of Cookielicious, Jean Boyle has launched her latest range of devilish treats to celebrate Halloween. The Bradford-based confection company creates edible art in the form of hand-made mini-masterpieces in unusual designs. The Halloween range includes ghosts, pumpkins, spider’s webs, bats and witches. Jean launched the business from her kitchen table earlier this year and is already looking for larger premises. “My Halloween cookies make great gifts and are an affordable alternative to the mass-market Halloween goods which swamp many stores at this time of year”, said Jean. “This is my busiest time of year, with Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Easter all following in quick succession - I’m expecting to be glued to the oven for the next six months!” she added.

So far, Jean’s order book has ranged from one off -personalised gifts such as cookie handbags and shoes to an order of 2000 hearted-shaped cookies for conference delegates. Jean is in talks with a number of the region’s leading retailers keen to stock her creative collection.

E
dwin Pounds is probably the most well known funeral director in the area, based in Greengates, this true family run business was established in 1904 and their prime interest was farming, but they were also a coal merchants and carriage proprietors, hiring horse and carriages to local funeral directors. Then as most of the farmland was utilised for the creation of the Thorpe Edge estate, funeral directing became the primary function of the business. Edwin had 11 children (8 sons and 3 daughters), the sons all worked in the family business and initially each brother had his own limousine, one of which was previously owned by Princess Margaret, one was used by Winston Churchill during his visit to Bradford and another was used in the filming of The Yellow Rolls Royce! In 2004 Edwin Pounds celebrated its centenary, when Charles, the only surviving son of Edwin, still worked in the company at the age of 85. Sadly, Charles passed away in 2005, leaving his daughter Judith Broome and his grandson, Simon Broome to run the company. Judith retired in 2007, leaving
Years On Simon to continue the prestigious family business. Simon has 2 young sons of his own whom he hopes will take a keen interest in the business when they are older, continuing the family business his grandfather would have been proud of. At the beginning of 2008, Simon had plans drawn up for purpose built premises. The building work was carried out in 2 stages and the progress followed by all local residents. Initially the rear of the building was demolished to create the garage, store room, mortuary and chapel, which can seat up to 40 people. This was followed by phase 2 which incorporated the entrance reception area, offices, 2 arrangements rooms and toilet facilities. The improved design and modern facilities offer comforting and informal surroundings, while still providing a professional and high standard of care which their clients expect and for which Edwin Pounds and Sons Ltd. is renowned. The build was completed in May and Edwin Pounds is now the only purpose-built independent funeral directors in the area. The legacy lives on.

Professional Tutoring Makes for a Happy New (School)Year
W
ith the onset of a new school year many parents, children and schools will already be feeling pressure to get good results. At a time when a lot of children are looking forward to the challenges presented in a new year group or even at a new school, there are many children out there who face the year with mounting trepidation. They may feel they have already fallen by the wayside because their confidence has taken a battering somewhere in the past. Perhaps in previous years they have missed out on a few vital steps in Maths or English, at a crucial time in their learning, and never really caught up. Other children however, may need more challenges than school can reasonably provide in a busy classroom environment.
Broken Resolutions
How many parents have noticed a change in their child’s attitude to learning over time and resolved to dig deeper but not got around to it? Then, before they know it, they find they are being told that their child is seriously underachieving at school. It is all too easy in today’s busy world to put off the decision to recruit help but, for some, action comes too late. Parents shocked by GCSE mock exams, for example, understandably feel guilty for not having acted earlier and reach for the phone in a state of panic. However, with a little forward planning, they could have saved themselves
and their children much worry.
them on a steady course to success.
The Secret to a Happy ‘New School Year’ No matter what your child’s learning goals are, the secret to success is to plan ahead and take nothing for granted. Free assessments are widely available through reputable private tuition services so parents have nothing to lose in obtaining an independent review of their child’s academic progress. Assessments are confidential and often highlight areas of difficulty that parents were previously unaware of.
Investing in the Future
A New Approach
In recent years, the traditional idea of a private tutor sitting at the kitchen table and battling with limited resources against the many distractions of the home (television, hi-fi, siblings, etc.) has been overtaken by the idea of purpose equipped education centres, often staffed with qualified teachers. The best of them teach in small groups with individual learning plans based upon a child’s own specific needs. Children like learning with other children around as long as the work set is engaging, fun and appropriate to their unique level of development. Children also need a caring environment that helps to build confidence and put
A rapidly increasing number of parents, grandparents and carers see this centre-based private tuition as an investment, not only in a child’s future, but their own too. A boy or girl who is independent, confident and successful is likely to present less of a financial and emotional burden in future years.
Education Centres in your Area
There are an increasing number of education centres delivering a high quality of private tuition after school and at weekends in the West Yorkshire area. Most provide free assessments and cater for a wide variety of ages and abilities. However, not all employ fully qualified staff so, to be sure of a happy ‘New School Year,’ ask before you make this life changing commitment.

Ground Breaking Football Programme for Toddlers Launches in Aire Valley
T
he SOCATOTS programme teaches basic ball skills, movement and co-ordination exercises in a fun and playful environment, and has proved hugely successful around the world as a great tool to encourage toddlers to take their first steps to fitness. The courses extend far beyond just physical exercise, SOCATOTS aims to improve balance and co-ordination, further develop cognitive skills, enhance muscle and bone development, increase self confidence, and demonstrate the benefits of keeping fit through a number of learning exercises. Research has shown that children who are physically active from a young age are more likely to have better concentration skills in the classroom, and this is the philosophy that underpins the SOCATOTS programme. SOCATOTS is more than just a football programme. It is an innovative concept where children can learn and play through sport and at the same time strongly encourage parental involvement, resulting in the development of stronger bonds between parents and their children. It benefits the childs development physically, socially and emotionally The programme has received huge acclaim, to include having been voted the Best Football Activity at the What’s On 4 Little Ones Awards (UK) 2008.

WEDDING TIPS AND CHECK LIST! When arranging a wedding try to allow yourselves enough time to organise the day you both wish for, then work through this checklist to make sure you have covered the important items. Arranging a wedding can be a time consuming task, but before you start to work through your wedding checklist you must decide together the type of wedding you would like – for example, a formal church wedding or an informal civil ceremony. The Budget Decide at the outset who will be paying for what. It will save a lot of heartache later on if you get this step right!! As a large part of your cost will depend on how many people will be attending the ceremony, it is a good idea to draw up a preliminary list at an early stage to give you some idea of numbers. Booking the Ceremony Book the church / civil ceremony as soon as you agree on a date. Arrange to meet either the church minister or the registrar so that arrangements can be made and the ‘notice to marry’ can be issued. Church Weddings: discuss the order of service with the minister including the style of service, music to be
played, bell ringing, choirs etc. Also find out whether photos may be taken in the church and if confetti is acceptable in the church grounds afterwards. For a Civil Ceremony: you will need to see the local registrar who will not only inform you of the legal formalities but, as an expert in arranging a wedding, will advise on the number of guests that can be accommodated at the ceremony, especially if held in a Registry Office. They will also inform you if photographs / confetti are acceptable. Insurance If the unthinkable happened and your big day had to be cancelled or postponed, everything would go on hold - except the bills. Could you really afford to pay for your wedding arrangements twice? Suppliers will request deposits the moment you make your booking - how much would you lose if something unforeseen happened today? Therefore we strongly recommend that you take out a Wedding Insurance package. For a small sum you can insure your arrangements against any cancellation or change and continue arranging your wedding with confidence.
Reception Venue Look around and visit possible reception venues to see what each one offers for the money. Before you visit, write down a list of questions you would like answering. Don’t make a decision on the spot; ask for a written quote and consider all the
options together at home. Most civil wedding and reception venues will have their own planner who will be an expert in arranging venues and will be able to offer you plenty of advice
Flowers This is an important item on your wedding checklist. Plan to visit various florists, preferably on a quiet day of the week, and ask their advice on colours and types of bouquets to match the wedding outfits. You may also like the florist to provide church flowers and flowers for the reception in the same colour scheme. Buttonholes are usually provided for the principal men of the wedding party. Sprays are worn by the two mothers. You will still need to order several weeks in advance, especially if you are choosing out of season flowers.
Music What music would you like to walk down the aisle to, what hymns do you want? Do you have any favourites?
Photographer/Video You may know someone who has recently married who can give you a recommendation. Otherwise contact local photographers and ask to see examples of their work and prices. You will need to agree before the ceremony any specific photographs you require taking. If you require photographs inside the church
/ ceremony venue you will need permission.
Invitations and Stationery Decide on who you would like to be the best man, bridesmaids and ushers. Order your Wedding Stationery. Send out invitations to guests along with a wedding gift list, and directions to the church and reception, at least six weeks before the wedding date. It is also a good idea to include details of local accommodation and perhaps the phone number or email of the local tourist information centre. Why not consider having a personal wedding website to keep your guests informed of your wedding plans.
Outfits Groom’s outfit: - in most cases this is hired. Be sure this is done well in advance. The best man and ushers
also may wish to hire outfits. For bridesmaids: try to choose a colour that will not only complement the bride’s dress, but will look good on each of them.
Wedding Dress Try on as many styles as you can, and try ivory as an alternative to white as it may suit your complexion better. This is a large expense so consider hiring. With outfits for the bride and bridesmaids ask how near to the wedding day you can leave it before ordering to allow for losing / gaining weight.
The Cake Visit local bakeries and cake specialists to get styles and quotes. Most bakeries have photographs of the cakes they provide. Don’t forget to ask if stands are provided.
and choose small presents for your attendants. Many couples find it easier to choose one or two large national department stores for their guests to select wedding gift items from.
Transport Arrange your wedding transport, either by hiring transport or by using reliable cars from family / guests.
Honeymoon And Finally: If you are going abroad on a honeymoon remember a change of name will take time to administer. Choose your destination wisely and book through a reputable travel agent for complete peace of mind. Plan and prepare well in advance and allow our specialists to assist you to ensure the perfect wedding day!

A Country Retreat on Your Doorstep! S
et above the market town of Otley nestles The Chevin Country Park Hotel and Spa, in beautiful woodlands and with a private fishing lake, you will find a little piece of tranquil heaven. You don’t have to travel far and once there you could be in the heart of The Lake District, in fact anywhere, a million miles away from it all. There has been substantial recent investment at The Chevin, with extensive focus on the spa. There’s a great gym, fabulous indoor pool, a whirlpool and two beautiful treatment rooms where you can really indulge in some serious relaxation! There is also an outdoor hot tub which will be really popular in winter. We visited The Chevin Country Park Hotel and Spa for an overnight stay and to recharge our batteries on Friday 30th July after a fraught week. We left the office early to take advantage of walking in the woodland grounds and then to treat ourselves to a spa treatment before enjoying dinner in the restaurant. We stayed in one of the lodges in the grounds - highly recommended as it’s the most peaceful, natural setting and, if the weather is good, you have a private undercover decking area outside the front door where you can enjoy a few drinks. We loved it and immediately felt relaxed by the country setting. Our treatments were booked for 4pm to give us time to get ready for dinner at 8pm without rushing, and it’s a short walk from the log cabins to the main hotel, restaurant and spa. If you prefer, there are lovely rooms within the hotel which were also recently refurbished - visit their website www. crerarhotels.com to see this wonderful retreat in detail. In the spa we were greeted by spa manager, Amy Rhodes, and beauty therapist, Jenny Bolton, who showed us to the spa lounge. As we were both having a Full Body Deep Muscle Tissue Massage, our treatment was explained to us and we were then escorted to
different treatment rooms. The massage was really good, focusing on the knotted problem areas in shoulders, neck and back, an ongoing result of hours sat either behind the wheel of a car or a desk! At the end of the treatments we were shown back to the spa lounge to relax and recover. Dinner was booked in the Lakeside Restaurant which overlooks the private fishing lake where a roaring log fire for those wintry nights instantly transports you to a Norwegian retreat. Here we enjoyed good food and very friendly service, the lake was lit up in the darkness and it looked magical. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty full English breakfast we had another walk around the woodlands before heading into Otley for a bit of retail therapy and then home in 30 minutes! Perfect. If you would like to visit The Chevin Country Park Hotel and Spa yourself, visit their website for availability and prices...or you could win an overnight stay with dinner, breakfast and a half hour spa treatment for two people by completing the question and entry form below.

ROOF CARE AND MAINTENANCE Free Roof Surveys Will Save You Money!
M
any of us neglect to appreciate how important it is to maintain your home’s roof in good condition. It is difficult to see, we are not roofing experts and we think it is most likely to be expensive. In truth the roof plays a vital role in keeping your house watertight and warm and should be inspected once or twice a year to ensure it continues to provide this important role. How to Check Your Roof Most checks can be done from the ground level, binoculars can be helpful, a neighbour’s property may also be a useful vantage point. Inspection through the loft access trap may show daylight penetration possibly caused by missing covering or damaged flashings. It is not advisable to attempt accessing and surveying the roof yourself as this presents many hazards. It would be recommended that a reputable and experienced roofing contractor carry this on your behalf as they would have the suitable safety equipment. A good roofing contractor would generally carry out this quotation free of charge and then recommend any necessary works. IF YOU CHECK YOUR ROOF AS ADVISED, PREFERABLY BEFORE THE INCLEMENT WEATHER IN THE WINTER MONTHS, YOU WILL POTENTIALLY PREVENT WATER PENETRATION CAUSING DAMAGE WITHIN YOUR PROPERTY AND SAVE YOURSELF MONEY.
What to Look For Debris on the ground from broken slates, tiles or defective mortar could indicate that there may be a problem. If you have missing tiles or slates, have them reinstated before damage occurs to roof felt, timbers or plaster ceilings. Moss, leaves and other debris can block gutters and cause the overflow of guttering which can cause damp to penetrate when running down the walls or to back flow into the roof area. Moss retains moisture which may damage the roof covering, particularly if left on the roof in frosty weather, careful removal is advisable and treatments are available to slow down reformation. Hips ridges and flashings can become detached in windy weather if pointing is not maintained. Look in gutters or gullies for signs of mortar droppings. Leaning chimneys or pots may need attention, seek expert advice. Where a fuel fire is used check for smoke exiting through brickwork or at base of pots. Pointing and re-flaunching may be required. Many roof coverings such as lead or thatch require specialist repair. Do not use unskilled labour or quick-fix materials as these could cause greater long-term damage and greater expense.
REMEMBER IF YOU ARE UNSURE ASK A PROFESSIONAL ROOFING CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A ROOF SURVEY AND QUOTATION. THESE ARE USUALLY FREE OF CHARGE. A REPUTABLE COMPANY WILL ADVISE YOU ACCORDINGLY OF THE WORK THAT IS REQUIRED AND OFFER A GUARANTEE FOR ANY ROOFING WORKS THEY COMPLETE.

The TooCan Has Here at MAD Publications, we absolutely love it when we discover someone who offers a unique service that is perfect for all start up businesses and businesses wanting to move to the next level. So we were absolutely ecstatic to come across Andy Thompson and his brilliant concept TooCan! For any business needing a ‘knock ‘em dead’ website without the usual massive financial outlay for design and hosting, Andy is the man to speak with, for reasons we will go into shortly. First let’s tell you a little about Andy and how TooCan came into being. Andy studied mechanical and production engineering after leaving school and found a passion for designing products that offered a solution to everyday problems, a passion that grew during his time working for a plastics engineering company after he finished his apprenticeship. Then through a chance meeting he was introduced to some people who worked in the security industry and he started to develop security systems and solutions for protection to high risk corporate organisations, including solutions for such as anti-terrorism. This line of work took Andy all over Europe, however after a family bereavement, he decided on a change of direction, going back to his roots developing, manufacturing

and marketing his own products. To date Andy has sold over one million products that he has personally designed, manufactured and marketed and he has two products currently in development which are almost ready to market; one is for the security industry which will be launched under a new brand called Ko-Ko, and one for consumers, both are being kept tightly under wraps until completed as the volumes Andy anticipates selling run into literally hundreds of thousands. As part of the process and the marketing mix when launching his products, Andy has developed many of his own websites, some as promotional sites and some for direct sales. Along the way he has regularly been asked for advice, and he realised that he could provide the something unique for start up and small businesses requiring a website as an essential part of their marketing mix and strategy, without the usual expense of a professional web designer and avoiding the pitfalls of trying to design your own site, which can result in something very unprofessional and ineffective. TooCan offers a no-risk and very low cost web presence, a site designed specifically to fit each individual business needs plus ongoing support and advice, marketing and networking ideas...and all from £5 per week!
Yes that’s correct; it’s not a typing error! That’s why we approached Andy after seeing his branding and marketing for TooCan. Having met with him to find out more, we were bowled over by his work ethic and passion to help local businesses succeed. To give you some idea of how quickly Andy can work for you, TooCan took just one week to develop from concept to marketing, designing, setting up his total brand, his website and securing his first five customers! This could be happening in your business. To find out more and to receive Andy’s FREE document – ‘26 Marketing Mistakes to Avoid’, which is a must have set of TooCan tips for every small business which has been developed specifically for MAD Publications customers and readers, contact Andy with your details:

Salt Jim by Ron Bairtsow I remember Salt Jim and his donkey and cart, Rattling over t’setts in t’road, With its great big blocks of snow white salt And t’owd donkey struggling wi’ load. I remember Salt Jim; he always looked old, He was small, about five foot three, In a shabby old suit and a trilby hat And a beard nearly down to his knee. I remember buying a pennyworth of salt, In newspaper, he had no bags, And a piece of bright ochre Yellowstone, To scour steps and flags. I remember his hands, all gnarled wi’ salt As he brock off a great big lump, He allus said, “Thank you” in a reight loud voice, By gum, it made you jump. His donkey was old, as old as Salt Jim, I’ve forgotten its name, It had a brown shaggy coit and a patch on its nose, And a gingery, crinkly mane. They’d been best o’ pals for years and years, They’d been out in all sorts of weather, And some folk said; I don’t know if it’s true, That they even slept together. It was a reight sad day in Bradford, When they heard that his donkey had died, And some folk said; I don’t know if it’s true, That Salt Jim sat down and cried. But t’Yorkshire Observer heard of his plight And collected to buy him another, And t’day came, and they gave it to him, He put his arm round its neck like a brother. I remember Salt Jim, though he’s been dead many years, And most folks must have forgotten him, A reight Bradford character, one of the best, He was t’salt of the earth was Salt Jim.

Centre in his local area. A superb, cost effective and more decorative alternative to tiles, decorative cladding was extremely popular in Newcastle and seeing that not many people sell this product in the Leeds/ Bradford area, Damian saw a gap in the market.
Fed Up Of Black Unsightly Mould - At last a real alternative to ceramic tiling!! “Our panels provide a decorative and functional finish to walls and ceilings in any room. They are however ideally suited to bathrooms and kitchens with many advantages over ceramic tiles. They are much quicker to fit, there’s no need for grout, and they offer improved insulation and will not support bacteria or mould growth!” Explains Damian Campbell, owner of Yorkshire Cladding Centre Ltd in Bradford. Damian, originally from Bingley, moved away in 2002 to Newcastle after being made redundant from the Bradford & Bingley. He worked for his cousin selling internal upvc cladding in Newcastle until May this year. After marrying his wife, Amanda in 2007, they decided to move back to Bingley in May this year as they missed family and friends, and this was the perfect opportunity to set up Yorkshire Cladding
“The cladding is easy to install, even the most basic DIY enthusiasts can fit it. I carry a large range of colours and styles along with assorted finishing trims and adhesives. My showrooms have been specifically designed for people to look at what’s available and how fantastic a finished room looks. As well as bathrooms and kitchens our panels are also suitable for use in shower rooms or shower cubicles and once completed provides any room with the ‘wow’ factor!” Produced from extruded PVC with a paint and lacquer finish to the front face, the panels simply fix together in a similar way to tongue and groove timber cladding. Panels can be fixed directly to existing sound surfaces, including tiles, using a variety of building adhesives, or can be fixed mechanically (nailed, screwed or stapled) to timber battens on uneven surfaces.
A visit to Damian at Yorkshire Cladding Centre is a must to see just how fabulous your rooms can look, you will also be pleased at the price!

There’s nothing like a bit of sunshine to make a show just a little bit special. Good cars, good friends and a healthy dose of sunshine all combined to make 2010’s VW Festival at Harewood House probably the best one yet. Rumours are abound that next year’s show will feature camping from Friday evening (the standard UK show format). Nothing is confirmed yet but it would make for a fantastic weekend away. Here are just few photos that i took while at the VW Festival.
Here i experienced a festival atmosphere and was able to see thousands of Volkswagens of all ages on display for one of our livliest motoring events! The VW Festival takes place annually at Harewood with grafitti workshops, show and shine events and much much more. There was a lot of fancy dress on show at the festival. That adds to the atmosphere of the festival and majority of people that were there had fancy dress on. Some of the main ones i can remember are Chewie, Storm Troopers, a troop of Smurfs, Umpa Lumpas, even spotted a few Where’s Wallys. You dont have to own a Volkswagen car or van to be able to visit the festival. It is open to the public just make sure you purchase a ticket before the day. You can either go Saturday and camp overnight with the main shows on Sunday or you can just purchase a ticket for the Sunday show. VW Action can be a weekend camped amongst like-minded enthusiasts, sitting, chilling, and meeting new friends, or a fully involved, participative fun fest!
