Swimming Lessons The swimming lesson programme at Nuffield Health is structured around the ASA “The National Plan for Teaching Swimming”. The swimmers “journey through aquatics” starts with the foundation level - a programme for developing early years water confidence, up to the more advanced levels of swimming, Bronze Silver and Gold.

The lessons run Monday – Friday and on a Saturday morning for all ages and abilities. We specialise in small group lessons with our instructor teaching the lessons in the water. Also available are one to one lessons for adults and children.

Bingley Chamber Bingley Chamber of Trade & Commerce aims to represent the views of all local businesses, improve local amenities and help the Bingley area to remain a vibrant place to both work and live. As well as organising and funding local events such as the hugely popular Santa’s Grotto at the town’s annual Christmas market, the Chamber also acts as the ‘voice’ of local businesses in lobbying the council for improvements to the town centre. In addition the Chamber has recently launched the web site www.bingleylocal.co.uk which has been designed and built by Chamber members Respond Marketing. The aim is for this site to become the starting point for anyone requiring any information about the local area. A comprehensive directory of local businesses along with full contact details, information about local events and vouchers for exclusive offers from local shops and businesses can all be found on the site as well as news and items of interest. Jamie Illingworth, President of the Chamber, stated: “We hope that you will take time to visit the site and please let us know of any improvements you would like to see on the site in the future. Beehive Hairdressing and Lotus Beauty at Beehive in Silsden

ilsden is home to a beautiful new salon, Beehive. A partnership between two local professionals in the world of hair and beauty is creating waves with a welcoming and relaxing salon set in the heart of Silsden’s busy main street. Katherine trained in hairdressing at Craven College, following this with six years in a salon at Crosshills, where she did extra training in specialist areas such as Racoon Hair Extensions - one of the many unique services offered at Beehive. Katherine always wanted her own salon, and through a friend heard, about a florist shop in Silsden soon to be vacant. together was obvious from that initial meeting. It took five weeks to transform the former florist into the beautiful salon Beehive is today and Katherine decided on the name Beehive because it is such an iconic hairstyle, and this salon is building a strong reputation of its own. Especially as Katherine is an expert in all the latest hair trends such as hair extensions and use of The ‘O’ Rollers, a brilliant, instant way to give any hairstyle the current trend in big, full and luscious styles favoured by many of today’s celebrities, particularly Cheryl Cole. Linzi studied sports and holistic treatments at Craven College as she initially wanted to be a physiotherapist. Easing the Pain of Relationship Breakdown

ver the years, local family law specialist Juliette Kinsey of Kinsey & Co Solicitors in Baildon has witnessed the devastating effects the trauma of relationship breakdown can have on the health and wellbeing of her clients. She believes that the impact of the breakdown of a relationship can be far-reaching and should not be underestimated. As an accredited Resolution family law specialist, Juliette Kinsey believes that if separating couples try to take the five following steps, they can help reduce the impact of their separation on each other, their children and their family and friends. IT’S ALL HAPPENING AT THE MAY SCHOOL OF DANCE IN CROSSHILLS! - MYSTERY! very two years there is a major show production involving most of the pupils from The May School of Dance and Theatre Arts, and this year is no exception. Once again Bingley Arts Centre will be the prestigious venue and the theme this year for the first half of the show is loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, the second half will showcase the students’ talents. BINGLEY SHOW HISTORY

Nestling in the Aire Valley, surrounded and sheltered by the hills of the Yorkshire Pennines, Bingley was once a small market town surrounded by fertile agricultural land. This is how it was in 1862 when the local farmers got together and held a ploughing competition - and from these humble beginnings developed one of the finest and largest one day agricultural shows in the North of England.

Whenever there is change there is a little apprehension, but more shows are held on a Saturday than any other day, and previous changes have not affected the popularity of this grand event. In the not too distant past, the show lost 2 years through Foot and Mouth and another over disputed access when the show was to be held on Wagon Lane. After each set back the show has bounced back and flourished once more.

As Bingley has changed from market town to mill town and, more recently to a satellite town to Leeds and Bradford, so the show has changed.

Nowadays, the show is geared for the whole family, for young and old alike, but has remained true to its agricultural and horticultural heritage. The cattle, sheep, goats, poultry and vegetables will all be there in abundance. In addition, there will be the pets - cats, dogs, pigeons, rabbits, cavies, and mice.

In its early days it was held for the benefit of the farming community and is believed to have been held mid week to dissuade non farmers from attending. Then, as the appeal of the show grew domestic pets and flowers joined traditional farm animals and vegetable produce, and the show became attractive to the whole community. It was still held mid week but as the show fell on the traditional summer Bingley holiday it attracted good crowds. Nowadays holidays tend to be taken any time in the summer months so the show was moved to a Sunday about ten years ago, making the show more convenient for the whole family. Last year, an old statute was unearthed by a private individual dating back to the middle of the 19th century, about the time of the first Bingley show, that forbids the closing of a Park on a Sunday, this put a big threat upon the holding of last year’s show. Fortunately we were allowed to go ahead as we were too far advanced in the planning to change the day from a Sunday. Discussions took place last year and it was decided that moving to the weekend from a Wednesday had been a success, with increased numbers through the gates, so we must now hold the event on Saturday. Next decision which Saturday? Eventually the 23rd of July was chosen as this was the nearest date to the previous years schedules and did not clash with other major events in the area.

Flowers and plants will complement the vegetables in the horticulture marquee, and in the handicraft marquee, new digital photography will be alongside the old traditions of jam making and baking. Whatever your age, whatever your fancy there is something for you at this year’s show. For the kids there are the fun fair attractions - the big slides the roundabouts - and the Blackpool donkeys will be back for kids to ride bringing the seaside feeling to Bingley. Then there is the return of Titan the Robot again, this is now a firm favourite of adults and kids and will delight and no doubt frighten, but a spectacle not to be missed. With clowns for the little ones and a stunt motorbike team there is something for all ages. For music lovers The Bradford City Brass Band will be playing in Bottom Meadow, and for the youngsters Pulse Radio will be blasting out their usual pop music, in the top part of the park away from the animals. With over 100 stands, loads of food outlets, and ice cream aplenty and of course more than one watering hole there is everything one needs for a great day out.

Ticket prices have been held for another year and are £8 for an adult, £5 for children and seniors with a family ticket at £22. Again this year there are discounts of £2 if you purchase your ticket before the day and £4 off the family ticket. BINGLEY FLY PAST FOR BINGLEY SHOW Just three months after the Royal Wedding fly past, Bingley Show has its very own aerial spectacle. At 14.35 the very same Lancaster bomber that delighted the crowds in the Mall, as it flew over Buckingham Palace, will give the show a real buzz as it flies low over the show ground. Don’t miss it, as it is one of only two Lancaster bombers that are now flying, and the other one is in Canada. PA474, as this great bird is known, was built in 1945 in Chester but before she was ready to go into battle the Second World War came to an end. The plane was then used for Photographic Reconnaissance; so don’t be surprised as you look up into the skies on the 23rd July at this magnificent machine if out of a rear turret there is a sudden flash. Snap! You’ve been photographed, another record for the ministry of defence! This Lancaster has always courted fame and has starred in two movies, Operation Crossbow and The Guns of Navarone. So after an illustrious 66 year career this flying battleship will at last visit the magnificent hamlet of Bingley. So make sure you are there to give this old timer a great Bingley Welcome.

SHOW 2011 AFTER AN ABSENCE OF TWO YEARS, SHOW JUMPING MAKES A WELCOME RETURN TO THE BINGLEY SHOW. In affiliation with BSAJ we will be having two sessions of show jumping in the main ring, starting from 8.30am with the Senior New Comers kindly sponsored by Mill Field Stud, followed by the Horse and Hound Fox Hunter Class sponsored by Ultimate Office Solutions Ltd. Once again the Shire horses will be showing in the main ring at lunchtime. Then starting at 3.30pm the OHS Accumulator kindly sponsored by OHS Ltd; this is a speed class and a spectator favourite. The commentator will keep the crowd informed and the riders have the option to finish on a joker fence to gain extra points. The final class this year will be the West Riding Motor Group 1.30pm Open which will hopefully attract some well known names in the world of show jumping. So come along, enjoy the spectacle and hopefully see some potential Olympic show jumpers!

SHIRES The largest animals at the show this year will be Shire Horses, standing at over six foot at the shoulder. Magnificent beasts, these fine horses are always popular wherever they go. There can be no finer sight than dray horses pulling the beer barrels from the brewery to the pubs. Unfortunately like steam engines and tall ships, these are things from the past and are therefore only occasionally seen today. The Shire horse is now almost exclusively a pet. Some pet! They weigh almost as much as a family car and cost about the same to keep, ÂŁ 80 a week and regularly need new shoes at ÂŁ60 a time. They live for 25 to 30 years and, for a large animal, are affectionate and docile, though stallions can be a bit of a handful. Shires did not compete at Bingley Show for a few years but in 2009 they were reintroduced, and proved a great success. These fine large animals and their young foals graced the main ring for a good hour, and will do so again in 2011 at about lunch time. Check the time in the list of main ring events.

BINGLEY SHOW 2011 THE HISTORICAL CAR SECTION. Always a popular attraction at the show and boys will be boys and boys like their toys! It is as boys that most car enthusiasts start. Alan McCormick, section leader, says he first got the bug at the age of ten when he would run to the gate to watch the cars go by. His first car, a 1931 Standard 9, was bought for £30. Now a vintage man himself, he can still be found tinkering in his garage on his 1952 MG saloon. Come and look at the old cars, and wonder at how the manufacturers had different ideas on what the customer wanted. This section will be situated in the bottom meadow and this year there will be a procession of historical cars in the afternoon driving into the main ring. Come down and speak to the owners. They like talking about their cars almost as much as showing them and they will be pleased to chat about the cars and the social side of the old car world.

Out Now: Hangover- Part 2 (15) This disappointing sequel to the 2009 hit comedy already had its work cut out to make its central idea a believable one, could this really happen again? Mind you that's not the biggest problem here, that would be the script which is extremely hit and miss and nowhere near as consistently funny as before. Yes there are laughs but many of them are predictable and the shock factor and consequently the consistent hilarity are halted. It starts brilliantly but as soon as the mad night is looked at, it grows thin and by the end wears out its welcome and its concept. Not awful just not good, shame.

X-Men: First Class (12A) A tremendous prequel in which the mutants and their abilities are actually the dressing on what is a character driven piece of cinema. The plot is well communicated and the ideas of war and injustice make for a perfect background to the X-Men comic book ideals. Fassbender excels as Erik (Magneto) and James McAvoy is brilliant as his opposite, Charles (Professor X). Watching how the beginnings came about and watching the fiery action, tender emotion and thrilling special effects only validates this as 2011's blockbuster to beat! Also look out for a truly hilarious cameo mid-film.

Kung Fu Panda 2 3D (PG) Po (Jack Black) returns to save Kung Fu from the evil Lord Shen in a hugely successful and equally entertaining sequel to the 2008 original. The animation is gorgeously rendered with a loving embrace of Chinese literature and Manga styled Asian animation. This film throws more emotion into the plot as well as the comedy still present from last time. There are tonnes of characters to watch but none better than the villain of the piece, who Gary Oldman voices superbly. True the first 10-15 minutes are slow but following that the plot grows grand and the battles inspired, as well as some nice 3D. A sequel which really is an equal and perfect family fun, Kapow!

This follows an increase in break-ins where vulnerable locks have been forced. Burglars use a simple tool to smash the lock in a technique well known among criminals. One-in-four burglaries in West Yorkshire involve the vulnerable Euro Profile locks, which are widely used in uPVC doors, particularly older ones. And that shine has just added a little more polish with the completion of an ambitious £500,000 project that has, quite literally, raised the roof . The money has been spent on a top to bottom refurbishment of their conference facility. The conference hall’s suspended ceiling has been removed to reveal the building’s apex roof with windows now flooding the room with natural light. When darker conditions are required for presentations, electronically operated roller blinds shut out the daylight. Improved AV equipment has been installed and -- for evening events -- there’s feature lighting. The new look main hall will seat up to 200 people, but the space can be split for smaller events. There’s also a new dedicated conference centre entrance welcoming visitors directly from the car park. “It was clear that we needed to invest

to meet the increasingly sophisticated requirements of conference organisers and to allow greater flexibility for community use,” says ABL’s Chief Executive, Jenny Pupius. “Our newly refurbished conference centre must be one of the best facilities in Bradford. It’s a first rate venue. As well as targeting businesses, we’re keen to promote our excellent facilities for a wide range of daytime, evening and weekend events.” But ABL is about much more than conferences – it’s a business centre too. COUGARS ON THE UP!!!! n the field the Cougar train has slowed a little over the past three weeks, with very narrow losses to Whitehaven, Rochdale and London Scholars. In all of the past three fixtures the Cougars have led with ten minutes remaining only to concede a try in the dying stages and come away with a narrow loss.

Over the last week Cougars have signed two of Leeds Rhinos future stars on an initial month’s loan with a view to extending the loan period should both parties feel it’s appropriate. George Elliott is a wing/centre who has already made his first team debut for the Rhinos this season and he brings some genuine speed to the edges. Jake Normington is a strong running centre, who brings some power and aggression the Cougars. As the Cougars are strengthening on the field, off the field they are making huge strides in taking the club to the next level. Cougars have agreed to form a partnership with UAK (Universities Academy Keighley). The partnership will allow the Cougars to use the school’s state of the art facilities, which head coach Jason Demetriou says will allow each player to obtain their maximum level of performance and will generate at least 30% individual and team improvement. Away from the playing side the Cougars are very close to securing premises in the Airedale shopping centre. Such an acquisition, will allow the Cougars to set up offices and a club shop in the heart of Keighley. New commercial manager Rob Weir is delighted with the influence a potential move into the town centre could have on the Cougar brand and stated: “Having a base in the heart of the town gives us maximum exposure and will help us generate business and spectator interest on a daily basis.” This exciting news comes off the back of the Cougars landing sponsorship deals with several household names, such Armour Glass which has sponsored the hospitality suite - which is now named the Armour Glass Suite. Other household companies that have jumped on the Cougar Train are Ford, GMB, and Premier Inn. Rob Weir commented: “Since coming on board as Commercial Manager I have been blown away and excited by the commercial opportunities that are becoming available, and feel that the Cougar brand has huge potential to grow, as well as offering excellent business opportunities to its sponsors.”A fact that has been supported with the acquisition of such major brand names.

Match Day experience. The next two home games will see a Dance extravaganza come to Cougar Park, with around 400 performers from dance schools all over the surrounding areas set to perform pre match and half time entertainment. Head of Dance at Cougar Park, Jo Riddell, said: “The enthusiasm and eagerness from dance schools in the area to come and perform on match day has been a real positive and I am looking forward to what will be an excellent show.” Also on July 10th the Cougars will host a pre match game between the Asian all stars rugby league team versus the Political Animals rugby league team, which is sure to excite the fans. Add to this the free Kids Club, face painter, ice cream van and the Dance Extravaganza, Cougar Park is becoming a day out for the whole family to enjoy. Cougars are also offering two summer camps on the 2nd,3rd, and 4th of August, and 16th, 17th, and 18th of August. If Cougars can get 60 kids to sign up for each camp, it will only cost £20, which is excellent value for a three day camp. The action packed camps wil go on from 10am to 3pm. There will be full days of Rugby league and other sports based coaching, games and activities for eight to 16 year olds to enjoy. The camp will have visits from Jason Demetriou, the current Cougars coach and former super league star, as well as visits from some of Super League’s biggest stars.
