Students will first learn a brief history of watercolor, which will enhance their appreciation of the medium. They will learn about materials, equipment and terminology associated with watercolors. The primary goals of this beginner’s class are to learn basic watercolor painting skills and to apply these skills to create a successful work of art using a photo image. Art Instructor, Manny Jomok

NEW! INSTALLATION ART ADVANCED INSTALLATION ART – Peter Pereira Peter G. Pereira, creator of the Trees of Life Sculpture and Multimedia Installation Series will introduce you to advanced study of this groundbreaking and exciting course: Installation Art. This course will delve into the art of installation as a deeper, more focused, more transitory narration: translating our (2D and 3D) indoor models of installation art to outdoor sites (4D). We will plan and site an indoor installation themed around a poem or song, for example, made up of elements of your objects, art or ideas. The challenge and excitement comes as we think of translating indoor to outdoor, where we welcome new interactive elements and spaces – nature’s flora/ fauna, scale, changing sunlight and shade, interactivity/people, season and time (among the honking horns, the accidental thunderstorm, etc.) This stretches us creatively in fun and profound ways!

Art Instructor, Peter Pereira

Are you a writer/poet, musician, painter, sculptor, photographer, movie-maker, dancer, gymnast, engineer, astronomer, chef, or some combination? This inclusive course explores installation art in all media and will incorporate your media including photographs, paintings, drawings, video, sound and sculptural materials in the exciting field of mixed and multimedia installation works. So bring one along to class! The weeks of creating installations will also include planning out and basic site exploration of your chosen object(s), the indoor installations, dimensions, scale, indoor/outdoor facets of our work including materials, ecology/impact, carbon footprint, construction, budgeting and multimedia. VISITING ARTIST WORKSHOPS ESSONS FROM THE MASTERS: PAINTING THE FIGURE IN L STUDIO & EN PLEIN AIR – Eli Cedrone 3 DAY WORKSHOP – OIL CHARCOAL/WATER BASED OILS Learn the fundamentals of painting the figure in the studio and en plein air by studying the approach and techniques of the masters such as Sargent, Sorolla and Zorn & Fechin. The focus will be on achieving accurate drawing and correct values; two of the most crucial aspects of representational painting. Topics covered will be understanding direct, ambient and reflected light, how sunlight affects color, seeing color and value as a unit and capturing the features of the model to create a likeness. Eli will demonstrate and explain her methods throughout the day and work one-on-one with each student. In case of inclement weather, you’ll have the opportunity to use reference materials and learn how learn to translate photos into useful information for paintings. Art Instructor, Eli Cedrone

Eli Cedrone (elicedrone.com) Soon after graduation from the School of Art & Design, Suffolk University in Boston, Cedrone began her career in Bermuda at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. She took a brief sabbatical from her work to study art in Florence, Italy. After nearly five years she set her sights on California living in Laguna Beach, working as an illustrator and magazine designer. She returned to Boston in 1996 where she continued studies at the School of the MFA and began painting full-time. Eli teaches workshop nationally and in Bermuda, California and Italy. Artist Statement: I’ve always been influenced by the power of images to express ideas and emotions. Painting is a process of discovery and decision making where disparate elements pull together until the image is clearly expressed. Primarily I work in oils and feel it’s important to work from life at least initially. I’m drawn to the human form where figures exist both in representational and painterly worlds. I will often explore a narrative theme in order to capture the emotional power of a moment in time. Ultimately my concerns are with the expressive qualities of light captured with paint. Contemporary Impressionism best describes my style. February 17, 18 & 19, 2017 | 9:30 am – 4:30 pm | Fee: $540

VIDEOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS CREATING VIDEO FOR SOCIAL MEDIA – Gary John Norman Either using DSLR or smartphone you will explore the process of creating video for Social media, video blogging and crowdfunding projects. The intention is to leave the workshop with a piece of video you would be comfortable uploading to those platforms. Thanks to smartphones creating “good enough” video for websites and social media is no longer the preserve of businesses with deep marketing budgets and access to professional film makers, animators and videographers. With a little bit of know-how, start-ups and small business can now easily move beyond amateurish and wobbly “talking heads” to quality self-generated video that packs the right marketing punch without hitting the bottom line. With this workshop we will teach what you need to know. ‘Video marketing is essential for all small businesses. First of all you need to learn the skills, of what to shoot, how to shoot, sequencing, editing and optimizing.’ Videography Instructor, Gary John Norman
