A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings, This is a very dynamic time at the Club. There are some exciting developments to announce. The Club has hired Richard S. Mogensen as the interim General Manager. He will be starting on June 1st and he is expected to be here for 60 days, while we continue our search for a permanent general manager for the Club. Rich joins us from Streamsong Resort, Golf and Spa, where he served as their General Manager for over 7 years. Leo Chomiak Streamsong is an award winning golf resort set on 16,000 President acres, featuring 228 luxury guest rooms and suites, three nationally ranked 18 hole golf courses, five restaurants, luxury spa, sporting clays recreation, bass fishing, tennis, and archery and catering and conference space of over 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting facilities for up to 400+ guests. He has experience in managing major hotel and club facility renovations and openings. In addition, the Club has hired Julio C. Canales as the Food & Beverage Director. He will be starting on June 12th. Julio joins us from the Four Seasons Baltimore, where he ran their food and beverage operations for their fine and casual dining facilities, their lobby bar along with their banquet operations. Julio has over 20 years of experience. He has extensive experience at coaching and developing team members. Julio will work with Chef Jon to update our menu and create culinary events and experiences for the membership. Both Rich and Julio come from world class organizations known for their culture of excellence. Their hiring shows the Club’s commitment to raising the level of service to improve your experience at the Club. The search is in full gear for finding a new head golf pro. There are approximately 10 candidates under consideration. The hope is to announce a hire before the end of June. The clubhouse renovations continue to move forward. However, we have encountered some unexpected issues involving the need for additional low-voltage wiring, painting windows and replacing piping for the chiller. The renovation team is confident that these issues will not cause any major delays in the completion of the project. We are still working with the City of Coral Gables and the county for obtaining the permit for the 19th Hole. As soon as we have that we will begin work in that area. The greens on the golf course continue to improve. In June, we will commence our golf course maintenance program with the first scheduled aerification on June 1st. Our summer closure schedule can be found elsewhere in this edition. You may have noticed Jimmy Germana and team have started treating the right side rough on the 9th hole to eradicate the encroachment of Bermuda grass and weeds.
Financially, the Club continues to perform strongly. We are seeing it in merchandise sales, record levels of golf rounds, tennis lessons and food and beverage purchases. Our membership department, led by Daniella Tosta, continues to see strong interest from prospective members. The number of families touring and joining the Club is very encouraging. The Preview Membership continues to be the entry level membership many are taking prior to moving up to Full Golf or Young Executive. Deering Bay summer fun planning is under way. We will have golf and tennis clinics for all ages to enjoy. There will be delicious cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and more. Sincerely, The Board of Directors

T
he Ambassador Program at Deering Bay is still looking for member volunteers. It is an effective way for current members to share their love of Deering Bay with newcomers. Since the beginning of the year we have had more than 20 families join the Club and we are expecting many more as we see a lot of families moving to Miami from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. What is the Club Ambassador Program? Club Ambassadors help new members make the transition from a new member to an involved member of the Club! A Club Ambassador will assist the new member with a smooth integration into the Deering Bay lifestyle. Who can be an Ambassador? All Club members can volunteer to be a Deering Bay Ambassador. As an Ambassador you will be: • Club Cheerleader – involved in the Club, who frequently attends Club events and activities. • Welcome Wagon – reaching out to new members with a welcome email or phone call. • Buddy – extending an invitation for a round of golf or initiation to a Club social event. • Friends – willing to be paired with new members for activities and social events. What are the duties of an Ambassador? • Based on interests, Ambassadors members would be assigned to each new Club member. • The Ambassador will call or email their assigned new member within the first week of joining. • The Ambassador will invite their assigned new member to join him/her to a Member Mixer, continental breakfast, lunch or dinner. • Ambassadors and their assigned new members will attend a new member reception to meet other new members, Ambassadors and Board Members. How long is an Ambassador assignment? Roughly a season. After two months, however, new members should be pretty well integrated into life at Deering Bay. Ambassadors should continue to send an email or call to check-in with their assigned new member for the remainder of the season. Who knows? You might have met a friend for life. We are always looking for new Ambassadors, so if you are interested in participating, please pass by the Front Office or contact me, Daniella Tosta at d.tosta@dbycc.com and I will forward you the Ambassador form.
Please congratulate...

A N O T E FROM GOLF
As June rolls around and the summer heats up at Deering Bay, I wanted to introduce myself and thank you all for the wonderful welcome I have experienced here at DBYCC. I am grateful to be able to join a great team of staff and take in the all aspects of what makes Deering Bay a very special place. As the final event of the summer rolls around in the Memorial Day Celebration, we look forward to seeing everyone on the tee and celebrate the holiday by taking part in to the Flag Tournament; remember, the farthest flag wins! Junior Clinics are starting shortly during the summer and we are looking forward to hosting all the players and diving into new games and activities for the juniors. Whether as an introduction to the game, or to enhance their skills, it is sure to be a great time. As the summer days warm up, I have come to find that the South Florida breeze helps alleviate the harsh humidity. While the heat may ramp up, the daylight allows for a nice summer round late in the afternoon to sharpen your game! Coming from North Carolina, I have enjoyed South Florida weather thus far, and have seen my share of Deering Bay’s many crocodiles. I look forward to seeing many of you around the clubhouse this summer and wish you all safe travels if you may be headed out of Miami. Thank you to all that I have met thus far, and I look forward to meeting several more of you down the road! June Events Tues.-Fri. 1-4 Saturday 12
