Directions to Widener • From Philadelphia: Take I-95 South to I-476 North and MacDade Boulevard. Turn west onto MacDade Boulevard and follow the Widener University sign. After three traffic lights, MacDade Boulevard becomes East 22nd Street. At the fourth traffic light, turn left onto Providence Avenue, Route 320 South, and follow the Widener University sign. Turn left onto East 14th Street into the main entrance. From Western and Northern PA: Follow the PA Turnpike to Exit 331A, I-476. Take I-476 South toward Chester to Exit 1. Turn west onto MacDade Blvd. and follow the Widener Univ. sign. After three traffic lights, MacDade Blvd. becomes East 22nd Street. COACHING STAFF / SCHWARTZ CENTER

Katy Peterson • Head Coach Katy Peterson is in her second year as Widener’s men’s and women’s swimming coach and looks to continue the positive mentality she brought to the teams her first season. Peterson’s tutelage helped the women’s team finish second and the men close third at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. The season ended with a major upswing as Laura Harris became the first swimmer for Widener, male or female, to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2002. Peterson arrived after serving as an assistant coach for Florida State University from 2008-11. She led the middle distance freestyle, individual medley and backstroke groups. She was responsible for managing the team’s recruiting databases, coordinating recruiting visits, academic monitoring and coordinating daily practices for assigned members of the men’s and women’s squads. Among the Seminoles accomplishments during her span included 11 participants at the NCAA Championships, 11 swimmers who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials, 35 new school records set and

Ben Safran

Assistant Coach Ben Safran is in his second season as Widener’s assistant coach. Safran served as an assistant coach at the Central Columbia Aquatic Club in Bloomsburg. He coached children ages 5 to 18 and conducted all practices for the team. He also assisted at the Fanny Chapman Swim Club in Doylestown, teaching sportsmanship, athletic training and the meaning of team sports. Safran competed collegiately at Bloomsburg University and was its team captain as a senior. He also was a member of the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He developed a student-athlete reading program and managed its use at local elementary schools. He managed a Gym Day to help kids in the area become better people and coordinated fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Safran also was a senior representative for Bloomsburg’s Honors Program and participated in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. Safran graduated Bloomsburg in 2011 as its senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was a four-time member of the Dean’s List, graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Marketing and a minor in Communication Studies.

39 swimmers on the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team her first two years. Prior to this, Peterson was an assistant coach at the University of Richmond from 2005-08. The Spiders track record during her time included five NCAA qualifiers, 20 new school records set, three Atlantic 10 Conference champions, two Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Performers of the Meet, two Rookies of the Meet and two qualifiers for the 2008 Olympic Trials. Peterson also was the head coach at the Dominion Club in Wyndham, VA, assistant coach for Club Seminole in Tallahassee, FL, the swim clinics director and head instructor at the University of Richmond, a counselor at the University of Virginia Swim Camp and an event coordinator for the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Peterson is a native of Lower Moreland, PA and was an All-American at Lower Moreland High School from 1998-2001. She then competed at Virginia Tech, where she was an NCAA provisional qualifier in four separate events. She graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise Science. Peterson also did an internship for the University addressing team nutrition and mentoring cardiac rehabilitation patients.

Jessica Carbin-Sievers Assistant Coach

Jessica Carbin-Sievers is in her first year as an assistant coach for Widener. She arrives after one year as an assistant coach at Swarthmore in which she was responsible for the dry land and lifting curriculums, running a nine-team invitational and directing the team’s 10-day trip to Puerto Rico. Carbin-Sievers also has served as a tournament director and ocean front lifeguard at Spring Lake Beach Patrol in New Jersey. She competed collegiately at La Salle from 2007-11, winning multiple medals at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. She also attended the Naval Academy Prep School for the United States Coast Guard Academy. Carbin-Sievers graduated from La Salle in 2011 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Communications.

Hayley Conover Senior • Egg Harbor, NJ • Egg Harbor Township As a Junior in 2011-2012: Won the consolation final in the 200-yard IM in 2:18.30 at MAC Championships (2/12)... Also finished 10th in both the 400-yard IM (4:59.89) and the 1650-yard Freestyle (19:24.99) at MACs... At Cabrini (1/28) she closed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:00.81... Against Albright (11/5), she finished the 50-yard freestyle in 27.12 and was a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that ended third in 1:47.43. As a Sophomore in 2010-2011: Finished the 500-yard Freestyle in 5:45.94 against Scranton (10/30). Won the 200-yard Freestyle in 1:55.53, the 500-yard Freestyle in 5:09.98 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.82. She was also a part of four relays, three of which set a new meet-record; the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:49.43, the 200-yard medley relay in 1:47.98 and the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:33.42... Named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll, as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. Won the 200-yard Freestyle over Albright (11/5) in 1:59.00. At the Swarthmore Invitational (12/3) she was a part of the school-record holding 400-yard Medley Relay team that won in 4:04.68, as well as the 800-yard Freestyle Relay team that won in 7:59.83... Vs. Washington (MD) (12/10) she took the 100-yard freestyle in 55.47 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.21. As a Sophomore in 2010-11: Named MAC Athlete of the Week (12/6). At the MAC Championships (2/13), she was a part of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team whose victory of 3:38.45 (winning by just two-hundredths of a second) allowed Widener to win its first championship since 1994. She also won two individual races, taking the 500-yard Freestyle in 5:18.82 and the 200-yard Freestyle in 1:57.26. Was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Women’s Swimming Performer of the Year (5/27). Won the 100-yard freestyle in the home opener against Drexel (10/20) with a time of 55.97. Over Albright (11/6) she notched the 200-yard Freestyle in 1:58.81 and the 200-yard Backstroke in 2:15.63. Rachel Lewinson Senior • West Windsor, NJ • Plainsboro South As a Junior in 2011-12: MAC Championship Meet qualifier in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM, helping the women finish second overall. Named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll. As a Freshman in 2009-10: Was a part of the 200-yard Freestyle Relay team that ended in 1:51.12 at the Swarthmore Invitational (12/6). Jennifer Barkofski Junior • Norristown, PA • Archbishop Carroll As a Sophomore in 2011-12: Finished third in the 1,650-yard Freestyle at the MAC Championships (2/12) in 18:16.56 to help the Women’s team finish second. Also at MAC Championships placed fourth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:48.57 and fifth in the 500-yard Freestyle at 5:21.05. Was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll. Finished second in the 1,000-yard Freestyle with a time of 11:38.28 against Scranton (10/29). At the Rowan Cup (11/19) she was a part of the 200-yard Freestyle Relay team that finished fourth in 1:50.28, as well as the 400-yard Freestyle team that finished third in 3:54.62. Won four times over Cabrini (1/28), including two individual wins in which she stopped the clock in 2:26.94 for the 200-yard Butterfly and 4:58.62 in the 400-yard IM. She was also a part of two winning relay teams, closing out the 400-yard Medley Relay in 4:21.95 and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay in 3:59.38. Kaitlin Harnish Junior • Havertown, PA • Cardinal O’Hara As a Sophomore in 2011-12: Placed 11th at MAC Championships in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.17. Also was a finalist in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke finishing at 1:05.04. Had two individual victories over Cabrini (1/28), including the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.11 and the 200-yard Backstroke in 2:25.87. As a Freshman in 2010-11: Was a part of the winning 400-yard Medley Relay against Elizabethtown (1/22) that stopped the clock 4:27.36 and a part of the 200-yard Medley Relay team that took first place in 2:00.93 over Cabrini (1/29). Laura Harris Junior • Phoenix, MD • Dulaney As a Sophomore in 2011-12: Competed in the 50-yard freestyle (24.02), the 100-yard butterfly (58.84), and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.17) at the NCAA Championships (3/21-22)... Named MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week (12/5)... Part of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team that set a new meet-record in 7:49.43 at the MAC Championships (2/12). Also at the MAC Championships, she won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.01 to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She also was a “B” Qualifier after winning the 200-yard Backstroke in a meet-record 2:03.30. Finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.44. At the Swarthmore Invitational (12/3), she won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.46, took second in the 200-yard backstroke in a school-record breaking 2:07.86, and was a part of four victorious relay teams. Won the 200-yard backstroke over Albright (11/5) in 2:10.50. As a Freshman in 2010-11: Named the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer and Rookie of the Year after the Women notched their second MAC title (2/13). She won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.93 seconds, the 100-yard butterfly in 56.96 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.28 seconds to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships in each event. Her times in the butterfly along with her 50-yard freestyle mark of 23.83 seconds and her 100-yard freestyle time of 51.90 seconds in the preliminaries are new meet records. Began her freshman campaign with a win over Drexel (10/20) in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:13.88. Against Scranton (10/30) she had three victories, all of which were records; 24/42 in the 50-yard Freestyle, 53.67 in the 100-yard Freestyle, and 4:09.30 in the 400-yard Medley Relay. She broke two of her own record in a meet against Albright (11/6), taking the 100-yard Freestyle in 53.29 and the 400-yard Medley Relay in 4:07.19. She also won the 50-yard Freestyle in 24.50. Against FDU-Florham (11/13), a 14-year old record was broken when she won the 100-yard Backstroke in 59.81. Individually at MACs, McIntyre placed seventh in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.42, and won the 200-yard breaststroke consolation final at 2:37.07... Took third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.82 at the Swarthmore Invitational (12/3) to help the squad take first... Named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll. Placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 2:03.33. Came in second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:30.16 as well as the 500-yard freestyle in 5:37.90 against Drexel (10/19). At the Swarthmore Invitational (12/3), she ended in 18:25.92 in the 1,650-yard freestyle... Against Washington (MD) (12/10), she won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:31.61, as well as the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:18.51...
