Widener’s volleyball and basketball teams play their home games at Schwartz Center. The facility sports a weight room, swimming pool and classrooms for our student-athletes. The gym in 2007 had extensive renovations with new bleachers and new scoreboards installed. Renovations continued in 2008 with the gym floor resurfaced and the addition of championship banners. Also in Schwartz Center, the women’s locker rooms were remodeled in 2007 and the pool received a massive overhaul in 2008. A new wellness center was constructed adjacent to Schwartz Center and opened in 2006. Our athletics administration has its offices in the third-floor suite.

Donovan Anglin • Head Coach Donovan Anglin is in his ninth season as head women’s volleyball coach and 19th overall with the program. The squad has made great strides over the last three years and has helped the team earn some long overdue respect. The Pride in 2008 notched a schoolrecord 26 wins and a berth in the ECAC South Tournament, its first postseason trip. The squad upended City College of New York at home to earn a berth in the semifinals. The team returned to postseason in 2009, defeating Swarthmore in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals as part of a 22-win campaign. Widener that season also upended eventual conference champion Lebanon Valley. The Pride in 2011 made even more history by hosting a conference tournament match for the first time in school history. The squad went 22-11 that season for its fourth consecutive 20-win campaign. Another major notch for Anglin was seeing Rachel Chizmadia and Becky Rohrbaugh in 2007 being named second team CoSIDA Academic All-Americas. The 4.0 students also were tabbed co-valedictorians. Anglin served as an assistant from 1994-2003 and was named coach prior to the 2004 campaign. A 1993 graduate of Widener University with a B.A. in Communication Studies, Anglin served as head coach for the men’s club volleyball team during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He also was a member of the club team for one season and coach of the Synergy Volleyball Club 17-team for six years. No. 1 2 *** 3 *** 4 5 6 * 7 *** 8 10 * 11/9 * 12 * 13 ** 14 ** 15 ** 16 18 *

He also played two seasons on the football team and one year on the soccer squad. Away from the athletic field, Anglin was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity as an undergraduate. After graduation, Anglin continued to serve the school as an academic counselor for the Widener’s Project Prepare Program for five years. Anglin today serves as an academic support counselor and tutorial coordinator for the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Media, PA. PREVIEW Widener’s volleyball team made plenty of history last season by hosting a Commonwealth Conference Tournament match for the first time in school history. The squad looks to continue that run with 11 players returning from the 22-11 squad which seeks its first league crown. Senior Meghan Spence is back at libero, coming off another standout year in which she tied the single-season school record with 806 digs. An exceptional defensive player and a great all-around athlete, Spence enters the year second in school history with 2,097 digs. Senior Angela DiMaria was picked second team all-league a season ago thanks to her great play at outside hitter. She does it all when it comes to hitting, serving and blocking as she has made herself one of the league’s top players. DiMaria enters the season seventh in school history in kills, ninth in digs and tied for ninth in aces. Shauna Phillips hopes to have a dominant senior year at middle hitter. A strong player at the net who has been a vital player the last three years, Phillips gives the team a lot of options with her powerful hitting and great blocking. Replacing a four-time all-conference setter in Jamie Ballew will be tough, but junior Maggie Greenberg is up to the challenge. Greenberg played great in limited time, amassing over seven assists per set, and should adjust well to her extended playing time. Junior Veronica Vizzard competed in 56 sets last year and should see that number increase either on the right side or at middle hitter. Junior Stephanie Schutt is back and seeks more time at defensive specialist. Sophomore Kaitlin Schnalzer was a welcome addition at middle hitter, giving the Pride needed play that resulted in just over two kills per set. Fellow sophomores Caitlin Horan, Victoria Miller, Brittney Johnsen and Jessica Dembeck also hope seek more playing time this season.
