Widener’s volleyball and basketball teams play their home games at Schwartz Center. The facility sports a weight room, swimming pool and classrooms for our student-athletes. The gym in 2007 had extensive renovations with new bleachers and new scoreboards installed. Renovations continued in 2008 with the gym floor resurfaced and the addition of championship banners. Also in Schwartz Center, the women’s locker rooms were remodeled in 2007 and the pool received a massive overhaul in 2008. A new wellness center was constructed adjacent to Schwartz Center and opened in 2006. Our athletics administration has its offices in the third-floor suite.

Donovan Anglin • Head Coach Donovan Anglin is in his 10th season as head women’s volleyball coach and 20th overall with the program. The squad has made great strides over the last four years and has helped the team earn some long overdue respect. The Pride in 2008 notched a schoolrecord 26 wins and a berth in the ECAC South Tournament, its first postseason trip. The squad upended City College of New York at home to earn a berth in the semifinals. The team returned to postseason in 2009, defeating Swarthmore in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals as part of a 22-win campaign. Widener that season also upended eventual conference champion Lebanon Valley. The Pride in 2011 made even more history by hosting a conference tournament match for the first time in school history, going 22-11 that season for their fourth consecutive 20-win campaign. The 2012 made it back to the conference tournament and once again hosted a match. Another major notch for Anglin was seeing Rachel Chizmadia and Becky Rohrbaugh in 2007 being named second team CoSIDA Academic All-Americas. The 4.0 students also were tabbed co-valedictorians. Anglin served as an assistant from 1994-2003 and was named coach prior to the 2004 campaign. A 1993 graduate of Widener University with a B.A. in Communication Studies, Anglin served as head coach for the men’s club volleyball team during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Anglin has been a clinician for the Nike High Performance Volleyball Camp at the University of North Carolina, in addition to volleyball camps at The University of Delaware and Villanova University. Volleyball is not the lone sport Anglin has had success in. During his freshman year at Widener, Anglin was a national qualifier in the 55-meter hurdles and the 55-meter dash. He also played two seasons on the football team and one year on the soccer squad. Away from the athletic field, Anglin was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity as an undergraduate. After graduation, Anglin continued to serve the school as an academic counselor for the Widener’s Project Prepare Program for five years. Anglin today serves as an academic support counselor and tutorial coordinator for the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Media, PA. Anglin lives in Drexel Hill with his wife Megan, son Donovan, daughter Avery and son Justin.

COACHING STAFF

Assistant Coaches Rainbow Shaw-Giaquinto is in her 10th year as an assistant coach for the Pride. She helps head coach Donovan Anglin with the day-to-day operation of Widener’s volleyball program. Shaw-Giaquinto has had a huge hand in Widener notching 170 victories over the last nine years, including a spot in two ECAC South Tournaments and the last six Commonwealth Conference Tournaments. She also plays a key role at Widener in helping direct the school’s annual summer volleyball camps. Her experience includes coaching at Padua Academy in Wilmington, DE as well as club volleyball for eight years. She also coached the Liberty Belle Volleyball Club and guides the U-18 Keystone Juniors Volleyball Club. Shaw-Giaquinto has been a clinician for several local summer camps and winter clinics as well as the Nike High Performance Camp in Chapel Hill, NC. She graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1998 with a B.S. in Physical Education. During her stay, she was a starting right side on the volleyball team. She serves as the department chair for Physical Education at Padua Academy. Shaw-Giaquinto lives with her husband, Tom, son Gabe, 14, and daughter Ireland, 11.

Sheri Hihn is in her third year as an assistant coach for Widener. Hihn competed four seasons for Elizabethtown’s volleyball team, helping it to the 2007 Commonwealth Conference title as well as trips to the final in 2008 and 2009. She also played on the softball team two seasons. Hihn in her junior and senior years was the class president, leading meeting to discuss student concerns. She also was the vice president in 2007-08, planning events for the student body. She was honored with the Deans Scholarship, beginning in 2006 as well as the Riddle Memorial Scholarship in 2009-10. Hihn shadowed physical therapists at two locations and also was a volunteer at the Shirley Nolt, Capital Area Theraputic Riding Association in Grantville. Hihn graduated Elizabethtown in 2010 with a B.S. in Biology-Allied Health and was on the Dean’s List. She recently earned her Master’s at Widener’s Institute for Physical Therapy Education. Erin Przybylowicz is in her second full season as an assistant coach for Widener. She arrived after serving as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Volleyball Academy in King of Prussia. She also was assistant with the Long Island Fury from 2008-11 and was a camp counselor at Villanova in 2010 and 2011. Przybylowicz was a four-year player for Dowling from 2007-10. She helped lead the squad to the 2010 national semifinals as well as a trip to the quarterfinals in 2008. Przybylowicz was tabbed the East Coast Conference and the AVCA Freshman of the Year in 2007 and was a member of the AVCA All-Region and NCAA Northeast Region All-Tournament Team the same year. She holds the school’s single-season record with 1,704 assists. Przybylowicz graduated Dowling in 2011 with a degree in Graphic Design and minored in Marketing Management.

PREVIEW It has been one great season after another for Widener’s volleyball team. The squad has competed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament six years running and is looking to make the leap to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Pride welcome back 10 returnees and bring on six newcomers looking to reach that goal. Senior Maggie Greenberg took control of the squad last season at setter and her play in the first year there saw her picked second team all-league. This selection was not limited to her setting as she played solid defense with 305 digs and also amassed 78 kills. She enters the season fifth in school history with 1,353 career assists. Having smart players on any team is a must and the Pride are fortunate to have four returning from last year’s Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll. One of them is senior Veronica Vizzard, whose play at middle hitter placed her on the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Team. She flourished last season in getting additional playing time, totaling 216 kills to go with a team-high .233 hitting percentage. One of three seniors on the team, she is one who will be counted on at the net. Another key component at the net is junior Kaitlin Schnalzer, who looks to finally get some all-league recognition this season. A powerful hitter who will see an even bigger role this year, the Bethlehem native closed last season second on the team with 260 kills and fifth with 24 aces. Junior Jessica Dembeck had significantly more playing time last season with 107 sets, a number that is sure to go up again this year. An increasingly valuable player, she led Widener a season ago with 42 aces and was fourth with 180 kills. Senior Stephanie Schutt will continue to be an important factor on defense after getting 144 digs to end sixth on the squad.
