Widener’s women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams play their home games at Edith R. Dixon Field, which opened in 2005 and became home to our women’s lacrosse team in 2006. Equipped with artificial turf, lights and a scoreboard, the field is easily accessible for fans and students to watch the Pride. The field also serves as home for our intramural squads.

PREVIEW Second-year coach Julie Mazer was a welcome addition to Widener’s women’s lacrosse team and what she helped engineer will carry on for many years to come. After the team’s first Commonwealth Conference Tournament berth in three years, this season hopes to provide more of the same as Mazer now has a full year to work with a solid group of returnees hoping to once again make noise. Junior Mackenzie Lindquist is coming off a mammoth season last year in which she was tabbed second team all-conference and helped inject life into the program with her hustle and all-around enthusiasm. She ended last season fourth in the conference with 78 draw controls, led the team with 41 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers in addition to ending second on the squad with 36 goals. Lindquist showed her knack for play in big games by notching 11 draw controls in the conference tournament at Lebanon Valley. Then there is sophomore Meghan Garvey, who was named Honorable Mention All-League after a solid debut campaign that rivaled that with her effort on the field hockey field. She ended fourth on the team with 28 goals and third on the team with nine assists a season ago. Senior Amy Albano has settled nicely into the defense and should once again be an important factor. One of nine for Widener to start every game a season ago, she was tied for second on the team with 34 ground balls and also scored seven goals. Senior Liz Glassman worked hard in the offseason to improve her game after competing in 14 games last year. She has made a great deal of contributions to the squad and seeks to be even more of a factor in 2014. Junior Megan Dunn took numerous steps forward last season in goal and will be the go-to player there again this season after ending last year fifth in the conference with 8.18 saves per game, playing all 1,026 minutes of the season. Dunn arguably had her best game of the season in the conference tournament at Lebanon Valley, making a career-best 16 saves that included 14 in the first half. Pinky Schneider saw her playing time skyrocket last season and showed why, ending fifth on the squad with 17 goals, second with 12 assists and clutch play on attack that will be vital this year. Melissa Sailey is another junior who has seen her playing time rise and she also will be key after finishing last season with 12 goals. Junior Megan Granata is back with hopes of making even more contributions this season. Junior Megan Capobianco looks to continue being an important part of the defense. Sophomore Caitlyn Mullner is coming off a season in which she scored nine goals to go with six assists and 12 draw controls. Megan Mills, Morgan Scott, Lindsey Brust and Kelley Dreher also had strong freshman campaigns and will challenge for more playing time this season. The Pride bring in 11 newcomers in Gianna Ciro, Heather Burns, Jamie Parent, Brooke Clasing, Jillian Riss, Kristen Bate, Angie Baricko, Brianna Haffey, Alli Yip, Kelsey Sherman and Grace Morales. Widener open its season March 1 at Arcadia and plays its home opener March 18 against Ursinus. League play begins March 26 against Alvernia and ends April 23 vs. Lebanon Valley. The top four teams compete in the conference tournament from April 30-May 3.
