Quella che si terrà a Francoforte dal 14 al 18 marzo “rischia” di essere una delle rassegne fieristiche più interessanti degli ultimi anni. Molte aziende, infatti, straniere e italiane, hanno “buttato lì” che le novità (di prodotto, ma anche di soluzioni tecnologiche, specialmente nella gestione e fruizione dell’acqua nell’ambiente bagno) saranno, a dire poco, rivoluzionarie. Il top secret, almeno fino al giorno prima della fiera, e’ ferreo dunque alla stampa ed agli operatori di settore non resta che... andare a vedere le carte. Noi, naturalmente, ci saremo!

The fair to be held in Frankfurt from March 14-18, “runs the risk” of being one of the most interesting in the last years.

Actually, many Italian and international companies, made clear that the latest developed products and technologies, especially in the management and use of the water within the bathroom environment, will be - to say the least - revolutionary. All this is anyway a secret that won’t be unveiled to the press and trade operators until the beginning of the fair. Therefore, nothing is left to do except go and see. We will be there, of course!

DUKA, OBIETTIVO L’INDUSTRIA 4.0 INDUSTRY 4.0: THIS IS DUKA’S MAIN GOAL Di Claudio Moltani Per avere le cabine doccia più facili da montare occorre competenza al 100%; una performance che si raggiunge solo con la flessibilità che, a sua volta, necessita di una organizzazione perfetta e la capacità di prevedere e interpretare scenari ed esigenze future. Per questo, a Bressanone sta sorgendo il nuovo sito produttivo, che racchiuderà produzione, R&S, uffici, show room e attività di formazione.

If you want a very easy to mount shower cubicle, you must rely on the best expertise and knowhow. Actually, the highest performances can be achieved just through flexibility which, in turn, needs perfect organization and the ability to imagine and interpret future needs and scenarios. That’s why in Bressanone a new company’s facility is under construction: it will include production, R&D, the offices, showrooms and training rooms.

Dal garage da cui partì l’avventura imprenditoriale di Johann Krapf, nel 1979, ai due siti produttivi odierni fino, alla fine del 2018, al nuovo complesso: un percorso che ha come obiettivo una Duka 4.0. E’ con giustificato orgoglio che uno dei due figli di Johann, Christian (che siede nel consiglio di amministrazione), Michael Pichler e Gloria Riva, il team del marketing, ci raccontano l’evoluzione del marchio, accompagnandoci nella visita in azienda che, fra l’altro, ci ha permesso di entrare nel luogo più “segreto”, il centro R&S, dove si creano e si testano modelli di cabine

doccia e tutti i loro innumerevoli componenti. Ma, prima di chiedere al lettore di accompagnarci in questa visita, ecco qualche dato, che parte dal quel 30% e più di produzione “su misura” che offre la chiave di lettura più adatta a comprendere come un’azienda possa produrre 1.200 box doccia al giorno (285.000 nel 2016), e un fatturato di 79 milioni. Attualmente, Duka è un’azienda “diffusa” sul territorio, stretta fra l’autostrada del Brennero, la ferrovia e la confluenza di due fiumi, con due siti produttivi e un Centro R&S a Pairdorf, a pochi chilometri da Bressanone; qui, è Chri-

stian a fare da Cicerone, aprendoci le “segrete porte” dove stampanti 3D e un’avveniristica linea di stampa digitale permettono di sperimentare soluzioni, tecnologie e decori d’ogni genere. “Il design, per noi – ci dice Christian – è nascondere la perfezione di una cerniera” (che, detto per inciso, può arrivare ad avere anche una cinquantina di componenti). Sempre qui, continua Christian, “abbiamo concentrato il top degli investimenti, per arrivare a detenere nelle nostre mani l’intera filiera produttiva, acquisendo nel tempo i vari fornitori”.

ha dato luogo a reclami da parte della clientela e che interessa un sempre maggior numero di modelli); fino ad arrivare allo show room, suddiviso in quattro scenografiche aree che presentano i segmenti di prodotto (Arreda, Aura, Vertica e Quadra), suddivise per tipologie e caratteristiche; uno show room che è, anche, una esperienza sensoriale molto apprezzata dalla clientela (domina la scena il top di gamma, e intorno ad esso sono collocate tutte le declinazioni possibili delle cabine doccia). Usciamo da Duka passando dall’area spedizioni; qui, al mattino, decine e decine di box, perfettamente imballati (maniglie e sostegni singolarmente), occupavano lo spazio che, ora, è vuoto: le cabine doccia sono infatti partite, dirette alle loro destinazioni e, domattina, altri prodotti riempiranno di nuovo questo spazio, in un just in time pressoché continuo. Un orologio (svizzero) non potrebbe funzionare meglio.

Con un piccolo slalom fra un gruppo di clienti russi (ogni anno, arrivano in Duka oltre 3.000 clienti, che visitano

l’azienda e seguono gli step formativi, perché per l’azienda il montaggio a regola d’arte, semplice e veloce, dei box deve continuare ad essere uno dei motivi di vanto) passiamo attraverso le varie fasi dell’assemblaggio, dove la vera protagonista è l’isola di montaggio, una soluzione che garantisce quella flessibilità necessaria ad una produzione sartoriale; spettacolare la sosta davanti alle cabine dove avviene l’incollaggio dei profili sul vetro (c’è anche l’area di… crash test, dove si apprende che i profili incollati reggono carichi elevati… si parla di tonnellate . Una tecnica che non

From a small garage where Johann Krapf, in 1979, started his enterprise, to the two, current production sites, up to the new facility which will be inaugurated in 2018 - Duka 4.0 is actually the objective.

It is with right pride that one of the two Johann’s sons Christian (who is in the company’s board of directors), the marketing managers Michael Pichler and Gloria Riva, tell us the brand’s evolution, taking us to visit the factory, even letting us in the R&D center. This is a sort of ‘secret place’ within the company, where new shower cubicles and their endless parts are tested and created. Nonetheless, before starting our visit, let’s analyze some business data. As mentioned before, a great part - 30% - of the production is tailor-made, and this is the key to understand how a company can produce 1,200 box cubicles a day (285,000 in the 2016), reaching 60% export shares, and 78 million turnover. Currently, Duka is widespread throughout the territory, nestled between the Brenner motorway, the railway, and the confluence of two rivers, with two production sites and a R&D center in Pairdof, few kilometers from Bressanone. Here Christian welcomed and guided us in a tour inside the company, opening up the “secret doors” where 3D printers and cuttingedge printing lines experiment different solutions, technologies and decorations.

“In our opinion design – states Christian – means being able to perfectly hide a hinge” (which, by the way, can be based on fifty different components). Exactly to this sector – continues Christian – “we addressed most of the investments, in order to personally deal with the whole production chain, acquiring various

suppliers over time”. Exactly from here it is going to start the new 3D printing project (1,000 dpi, as stressed by Michael).

The only problem was the lack of space…

“That’s why the new facility is developing on at breakneck speed – confirms the President and CEO Luis Rabensteiner.

We are all involved in this project, our aim is to complete the task by the end of the 2018, and finally launch the new Duka 4.0. It will be the fourth facility of the company, and will also foster the digital processes, with the ultimate goal of a Industry 4.0. After meeting a large group of Russian clients (every year, says Michael, more than 3,000 clients come to our factory to visit the company and attend the training courses. Actually, the quick, easy yet flawless assembling process of the shower enclosures, is still symbol of pride), we examine the

various assembly stages. Protagonist is here the mounting island, a tool which guarantees flexibility in a custom solution. Really amazing to us, the break in front of the cabins, where the profiles are glued on the glass (there is also the crash test area, and we understand that the attached profiles can bear up many tones. A technique that – states Michael – has never taken to any complaints from the clients, and that involves an increasing number of models . We finally reach the showroom, which is split into four striking areas where the collections are displayed (Arreda, Aura, Vertica e Quadra), further split into different types and finishes; this showroom is also real emotional experience (the top of the range stands out, and around it all possible shower boxes). We get off from Duka going through the shipment area;

here, in the morning, dozens of perfectly packed shower cubicles (handles and supports are individually packed) took up a space which now is empty: the shower enclosures have now left, toward their destinations and, tomorrow morning, new product will now full the space, in a never ending “right in time”. A Swiss watch couldn’t work better.
