Rich in history, DeBordieu has been home to a privileged few for more than two centuries. Today, it is enjoyed by families of distinction who value its elegant, yet relaxed Lowcountry appeal. Since 1986, DeBordieu Club has offered its members a truly remarkable private club experience. Such excellence could not be had without the strong backbone of this thriving community, the DeBordieu Club staff. We as a Club have a lot to celebrate in 2021, as we commemorate the 6 staff members featured below who are all celebrating their DeBordieu Club milestones.

Do You Feel the Need for Speed? In this day and age of watching the bombers on television, it stands to reason golfers everywhere including myself are trying to find ways to hit the ball further. While I can tell you centeredness of hit regardless of speed will always provide you the best opportunity to hit it farther, I would like to offer these tips in proper order to help you achieve greater distance:

Tip from the Pro Matt Williams, PGA Director of Golf

1. Hold the club lighter, but with the arms. If I were to stand in front of you and grab hold of your clubhead, I should be able to easily move your arms around yet not take the club from you. Tense arms will certainly slow your swing speed. 2. Create a bigger swing arc. A big swing arc will produce the potential for more speed. As a start simply try to get your hands higher at the top of the back swing. 3. Swing the arms faster. All we hear about is rotation, rotation… important for sure, but I promise, the faster you swing the arms the better your clubhead speed will be. Don’t worry about it, swing the arms fast and the bodies rotational components will sync up and support the action of the arms. Try making some practice swings where you let it go and swing as fast as you can. Find your balance and form. Then step up to the ball and let it go. We often don’t realize how much speed we are leaving in the bag. 4. Swing through it, not to it. We tend to fixate on the ball and really worry about the hit, often putting the brakes on to make sure we hit it. Instead, focus on arriving in your finishing form so the ball is just in the way when the club is traveling its fastest. I hope these tips help you find your ball further down the fairway! Please give us a call if you would like help in achieving any of your golfing needs. Sincerely, Matt

Over the last year our nation has faced a health crisis like no other. The DeBordieu Club has taken great measure to keep everyone safe, but still accommodated our members to go on with life as much as possible. Although we were unable to keep the gym open for a period, we were fortunate enough to be able to keep tennis and pickleball courts available for play. During this time, we have had devoted Members and Staff and we would like to take this opportunity to spotlight one member and one employee for the Newsletter. We put every member and every staff member that worked during Covid-19 in a drawing a picked one from each. The Director and Tennis and Fitness club Manager would like to congratulate Glen Insley and Tara Hemeon for Member/ Employee Spotlight. This is something that we will continue to do in the future. So, if you visit the Tennis and Fitness facility you will be entered into our newsletter spotlight drawing in the future.

Beach Yoga Tues, Thurs, Sat 8am Join us and start your day with a Vinyasa flow. Tune into the sound of your breath and the sound of the ocean. Relaxing the mind but focused, deep, conscious breathing helping the creative process by increasing and directing the flow of thoughts. Doing beach yoga near the sea, promotes this mindful state and reduces our stress levels, promoting mindfulness.

1. AVOID SLIPPING ON THE SAND. Leave nice yoga mat at home–and do not forget a large towel to put under your old, crusty mat to keep you from sliding around on the sand., or just use your towel, the bigger the better. 2. PROTECT YOUR FEET. Under no circumstances should you bring a BLACK mat to the beach. The color absorbs heat and can burn your tootsies. Sand is not a level surface. This can make any standing yoga pose difficult and potentially more prone to induce injury. The solution is to twist your feet a couple of times, so they dig deeper into the sand, giving you better balance. 3. HEADBANDS ARE COOL. Keeps the sweat out of your eyes. Sun lotion is optional. Practice is early and your pores need to be open to sweat. Bring a non-spill container for water and eat fruit before you come. 4. DON’T FORGET YOUR SUIT. Wear your swimsuit underneath your yoga clothes or practice beach yoga in clothes you do not mind getting wet. 5. GO WITH THE FLOW. Allow the sounds of nature: the birds, the ocean, and yes, even the wonderful people of DeBordieu to be your soundtrack. Do not be flustered by the distractions. Let them bring you into the present moment and more into your experience. DBD Beach Yoga is weather dependent Contact Drew at 401-441-2199 for cancellations or any questions about Beach Yoga. Members are $8 and must sign in before class starts. Guests are $12 or $15 if unaccompanied with member and must pay before class. All levels are welcome. Boot Camp Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 am We are offering an outdoor fresh air boot camp on the Tennis. Courts at DeBordieu. Fun fitness at a safe distance! Bring a water bottle and a towel to wipe of your sweat! What makes DeBordieu Boot camp workouts so unique is that we emphasize total-body functional training that conditions the body. and helps the body to move through space and time stronger. The exercises that comprise boot camps are designed to work the upper and lower body and core, so it is a comprehensive workout. Boot Camp conditions the whole body.
